Also food/drink you used to hate..
Im a previous complete caffeine head, now I can't even stand the smell of coffee.
Used to think beetroot was vile stuff, can't believe it's one of my favourite foods now.

stayathomer · 28/08/2023 23:21

Only started liking cake in my 30s, now 43 and stomach is in bits after I eat cakes or cupcakes:( Cereal is a killer for me, weetabix is evil!!! Oh and am thinking of just giving up alcohol full stop!

Used to love a cream cake…. Not any more, makes me feel really nauseous…
Also loved Prosecco, cocktails and champagne, particularly the really decent stuff🍾 Sadly, the menopause put paid to these treats… I get raging acid reflux that brings tears to my eyes 😩
Ive noticed that more and more food is becom8ng a problem, the latest two being tomatoes and dark chocolate…. I am broken!

I can't stomach Prosecco anymore. The acid reflux afterwards is just unbearable. It's only been the last year or so (I'm 39).

Yes, with the help of a bird bath I found in the garden

TrishM80 · 28/08/2023 23:25

Used to like cappuccinos but I find them too rich and sweet now, would feel sick if I had one. Just stick to regular Americanos now.

KohlaParasaurus · 28/08/2023 23:31

As a teenager I was partial to tomato cup-a-soup. Yuck! Also the cheese-flavoured paste that comes in tubes, and I'm sure I didn't always hate buttercream on cakes.

Reading this thread, I think my digestive system has got off very lightly with the menopause.

Moonwatcher1234 · 28/08/2023 23:32

Any type of red meat but especially lamb. Even in a curry, I try to avoid the lamb but the sauce will still taste very strongly of lamb and really meat-ish. Not sure when it started but I actively feel nauseous when I see it in a dish now. Can eat chicken and fish as usual though.

Low FODMAP eating taught me that I can't now stomach even the slightest bits of onion, garlic and apple. Weird.

Onions kill me they are fine stewed without any hint of flavour left! I also haven't been able to digest apples for years had to stop eating them.

justasking111 · 28/08/2023 23:40

Lactose free milk has helped a lot and gluten free pasta. My son had awful stomach issues, gave up gluten and lactose which helped so much. He's been educating me on the fodmap.

Mrsjayy · 28/08/2023 23:40

Ive gone off fish and seafood I used to love it but it just tastes bland to me.

Theroom · 28/08/2023 23:48

Apple juice. Actual apples are fine, but apple juice sadly now gives me horrible stomach pain and bloating.

When I was pregnant I reacted to milk, yoghurt and ice-cream. I can eat them again now, but switched to lactose free milk long-term. I'm wondering if menopause will throw up the same issue.

A lot of UPFs I no longer take pleasure from eating. Esp ready-meals. Also means I don't like eating out like I used to.

GEC44 · 28/08/2023 23:49

Eggs - really gone off them lately, even fried eggs, which I love.

Used to hate mushrooms but now I love them, also red wine and good coffee.

Tomatoes 😞 they give me the most horrendous heartburn.

Put a splash of vinegar dressing on - and you may find your fine (I'd use apple cider vinegar :) )

DrCoconut · 28/08/2023 23:56

Since discovering that I have coeliac disease and going gluten free I've found that things such as cuppa soups and noodle pots (I only have the GF versions) are extremely salty and leave me feeling dehydrated. I never noticed that before. I also had a phase where things like fish and chips gave me heartburn but that has improved so may well be related to my gut issues.

jay55 · 28/08/2023 23:58

Ribena, most squish really, went off it before the sugar tax, so it wasn't the sweetness though is now.

I think they were sneaking cheap sweetners Into drinks before the sugar tax so the .manufacturers were using less sugar and fruit sugar so the taste is all kinds of wrong.

FrostieBoabby · 29/08/2023 00:05

Never again - 70's/80's kid here when Bernard Matthews equated to a home cooked meal - I'll never eat processed meat again. On the odd occasion I buy meat, I'll only buy it from our local butcher. Also, Malibu or cheap cider the drink of choice for teenage me, yuk.

Converted to - Mussels, as long as they're cooked by a proper chef as I'm too scared of the risk of certain food poisoning death if I cock it up.

Wine - any type, any colour has now replaced the Malibu and cheap cider of my youth.

Has anyone tried the sausages in Heinz Baked Beans as an adult?! REVOLTING! What are they made of? They were my favourite as a kid!

I'm pretty sure they were made from pig foreskins and bums. Probably didn't do us any harm but totally disgusting to look at now. Actually can't believe we were fed stuff like this as kids!

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 29/08/2023 00:10

@Silentmama2 thankyou I will give that a go as I have some apple cider vinegar in the cupboard! I also have a huge crop of honeycomb tomatoes that need eating...

Askil · 29/08/2023 00:10

Packet noodles - Used to eat them like they were going out of fashion then one day just felt overwhelming nausea at the feel of it going down my throat and that was it.
Sprite and Coke - Haven't drunk them for decades -horrible sugary after taste.

catnipevergreen · 29/08/2023 00:11

I can't eat bread, garlic , tomatoes or cucumber anymore without getting indigestion. I can't tolerate alcohol anymore either - I had two small beers on Friday and felt horrendous on Saturday morning.

ZitWit · 29/08/2023 06:54

Actually, thinking about it, there’s even more than I thought…

Apples, Cucumber, Lettuce, Spring Onions, Garlic - and my pet hate, Peppers all make me burpy and nauseous for hours afterwards.
Any mint chocolate does the same, especially dark choc and mint
(After 8s and Magnums😪)

Fish and Chips… strong chance I’ll feel sick for ages after… I think I can’t manage the fat content?

Having horrid visions of my old age, where food will be beige, soft and totally flavour-free!!!😱

zingerdoo · 29/08/2023 08:09

Pringles! Used to happily eat half a tube, now if i have couple i get horrible indigestion so don't go near them. Sugary cakes give me a wave of sickness now too and just not worth it. Noodles! I used to love them, then made me feel really sick when I was pregnant and not been the same again. Tried a pot noodle recently- got indigestion and dehydrated.
And, as others have said... I didn't think I'd ever say it but my wine days are numbered. I'm developing quite an aversion to it and think I will just stop drinking altogether.

HB1974 · 29/08/2023 08:13

Another peri menopause one

I can no longer eat dairy, including goats and sheep cheese, milk etc.

It's taking time, energy and planning to manage.

RabbitsRock · 29/08/2023 08:16

Tea now gives me palpitations ( menopause related I think)
