I hope you have a plan and can get him out today but if he stays in there another night or even longer until the owners or workmen turn up, he'll be fine, cats can last ages without food or water .

Willmafrockfit · 28/08/2023 10:21

looks like you will ahve to enlist the help of @hodgepodgepanda's db

placemats · 28/08/2023 10:22

I do hope you are unscrewing the cat flap @Catsos right this minute.

It's your best option so far and I'm sure it can be replaced intact. Do not remove windows. Do not push food through a window. Think carefully about getting a locksmith. Please do not call the emergency services.

Quisto · 28/08/2023 10:22

Earlier this year I went to the bottom of my garden and saw a neighbour's cat sitting inside my shed. This was approximately lunch time on Sunday. I got the keys, unlocked the door and the cat strolled out, rubbed round me, played on the lawn, then went home. He had crapped on the mat but not peed at all. I later happened to see a local Facebook page and discovered the cat had been missing since Thursday. No idea why the neighbour didn't just call over the fence on one of the previous days to say their cat was missing. The cat still visits us every day if I leave a house window open, even an upstairs one. 🙄 There is no water or food in the shed, possibly a few spiders.

NotDavidTennant · 28/08/2023 10:17

How can there by a bend in a cat flap going through a straight wall? How long can this 'tunnel' be?

Well hopefully as OP is there now, she can take that photo and post it for our advice.

That said, we have been promised an ‘update very soon.’ There was a new cat photo but hopefully we will have the update soon as to which of the many suggestions on the previous thread OP has put into action.

SoCentralRain · 28/08/2023 10:23

I wouldn't have thought making a new thread to update on later was a priority in this situation? 🧐

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/08/2023 10:23

The FB issue has already been discounted by OP, if you read their posts on the previous thread.

I've read pretty much the whole thing. The absolute batshit ideas to rescue the cat have kept me company through a painful, sleepless night.

The drone idea has not been topped yet!!

PlumPeony · 28/08/2023 10:23

Wouldn't there be water in a toilet that the cat can drink?
Have you been to the estate agents office to see if there's anyone around or any emergency phone numbers?

SirVixofVixHall · 28/08/2023 10:23

Your cat is a beauty OP. I hope a solution is found soon.

MayThe4th · 28/08/2023 10:23

If the cat got in through a cat flap then it will be able to get out. Assuming obv that the flap isn’t locked from the outside

Reality is that cats have survived locked up in sheds and garages and such for days and while they might have been a bit thinner haven’t come to extreme harm.

A cat isn’t going to starve to death in 48 hours.

Presumably if they’re having work done whoever is doing the work will be back tomorrow. The cat will be fine in there until then.

You absolutely cannot break into the house. The RSPCA wouldn’t even come out to my cat who was still a 9 month old kitten who climbed up on to the roof of a house for at least 72 hours. And there’s no way the police or fire brigade should be expected to break into someone’s house to rescue a cat.

He’ll be fine until tomorrow.

GasPanic · 28/08/2023 10:24

So the cat is smart enough to break into the house via the flap but the owner isn't.

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I would have though some sort of stick with a tool on the end should be sufficient to open up the flap - either a hook, sticky pad etc. Maybe the flap has a magnetic lock that you could open up with a magnet. Once opened it could be propped up with a stick to allow the cat out.

Unless of course the tunnel is 50m long and has multiple right angles in it. which it probably does ........

If you can't afford a locksmith then you can't afford to smash a window either because smashing the doors/windows will cost more than opening a lock.

MonumentalLentil · 28/08/2023 10:20

They were taking 3 months to update deeds pre-Covid, won't be done yet.

The FB issue has already been discounted by OP, if you read their posts on the previous thread.

If the solicitor paid to expedite the update then it will have been done in a fortnight.

Hopefully the OP has contacted the estate agents who sold it by now though so a message has been conveyed to the owners Smile

NopeNopeNoper · 28/08/2023 09:48

No, unfortunately she didn’t. But hopefully she is able to this morning.

There is a picture of him at the window, not a full picture thought. He looks cute, calm and collected as a cat would 😻

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 28/08/2023 10:25

Our cat survived in a cupboard from Sunday to Friday night. We knew she was missing of course and we contacted the local vets and police station in case anyone had reported finding her run over but nothing. Then on the Friday night we heard her crying, opened the cupboard and out she came. She was quite stiff but she stalked outside to go to the toilet and came straight back in. She had not messed in the cupboard at all.

Catsos · 28/08/2023 10:07

Genuinely thank you so much to everyone who left messages of suggestions and support on my last post. I had to leave him in the house overnight as it was so dark I couldn’t do anything more.
He is still here, pretty sure he knows I am trying to rescue him.
He hasn’t touched the crab sticks I left but I am not 100% certain he can get into the room. I am determined to get him out today as it will be 48 hours of him inside :(

The house is going to stink really bad because of the crab sticks. Don't think new neighbour will be impressed.

I know its not nice but he will be ok till tomorrow. Like others say cats can manage a few days if they have to. And he will have a good feast when let out .

LittleBear21 · 28/08/2023 10:27

Good luck op

QOD · 28/08/2023 10:27

Police are being so unhelpful! When my cat did this except he was locked in a car all day & night 🤦🏼‍♀️ the Police were so nice.
they wouldn’t give me the registered keeper address but the went to their flat and left a big bit of paper telling them a cat was locked in their car. They even popped back when the didn’t hear from the car owners after a few hours and woke him up (he’d come in drunk and missed the massive note 😂)
can’t they run a trace on the owner ?

TheHappyCarrot · 28/08/2023 10:28

Everyone seems to be assuming there is a toilet in the house, maybe there isn't.

WhalePolo · 28/08/2023 10:28

@Catsos

Can you contact the previous owners of the house, and see if they know any details or the name of the new owners?
Neighbours who might know details of previous owners? 192 search/Facebook search?

CrunchyCarrot · 28/08/2023 10:29

I've just stumbled across this long saga!! OP I do hope your kitty can be rescued, what a little bugger, getting into house like that! I had one who used to break into other houses but never thankfully got himself into such a pickle!

Oh and please make sure when you eventually DO get him out, that he can't just get back in again!

My previously mentioned cat was able to bat chipped cat flaps open. If you pay hard enough to get a bounce back, you can get a paw under and enter
he also used to knock on the front door knocker

awww I miss him

Todd6529 · 28/08/2023 10:30

Have you posted on social media in sales groups etc to see to see if you can locate owners of the house or some one who knows them might be able to contact them for you .I know here we have a town community page on Facebook that is very active and people share posts reaching lots of people 🤞
