The photo is in the first page of the first thread, if signed in -if not it's page 3/4. It's clear that it can be removed by unscrewing the entry flap, which would have been my first job. I've tried to copy and paste the photo but cannot.

Perhaps @Catsos can repost the picture for this thread. Should have already done this for the second thread.

I can’t see any photo of the bend in the cat flap on the first thread. Could you link to it? Although as @Catsos is at the property right now perhaps it will be quicker/easier for her to post a photo of the bend!

HouseIsOnFire · 28/08/2023 10:06

It might sound mad, I know you said the police won't help, but have you tried the fire brigade's non-emergency number? They've help us rescue a cat from a building roof before?

Second this, is it worth a try @Catsos ?

OnlyFannys · 28/08/2023 10:12

Bless you op you must be so worried. At least he knows you are there so that's probably stopping him getting to stressed. Agree with others it would be good to see what the inside of the cat flap looks like so we know what you are dealing with, I tried googling for cat flaps with a tunnel that has a bend but I can't see anything, would be good to get an idea of how long the tunnel is so we can consider tools that might help. I really hope you get him out

TheYadaYada · 28/08/2023 10:13

Can you not get the cat flap off the wall? My husband would definitely be able to do that - where are you located?

I’m sure the neighbours would understand and you could repair or replace as necessary.

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 28/08/2023 10:13

He looks like my old cat 😭😭 he’s gorgeous ❤️❤️

Hopefully in the daylight it will be easier to see a way of getting in.

I would definitely try breaking the cat flap as my first port of call as he got in that way and so he should be able to access it.

He doesn’t look distressed or ill and so you do have time and you don’t have to panic.

Yujismum · 28/08/2023 10:14

I would have thought that since it is now imperative that he gets out and gets fed (re liver issues) that the RSPCA would treat this as an emergency.

IHateLegDay · 28/08/2023 10:14

I really hope you get him today xx

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 28/08/2023 10:14

Also the cat flap being broken isn’t going to be a safety issue and it shouldn’t cost too much to repair.

AussieManque · 28/08/2023 10:15

Following this thread with great interest!

@Catsos once cat is safely rescued, I suggest sharing this thread (and previous one) with the new neighbours, firstly it would clearly demonstrate that you've thought of all the possible options for cat rescue, and secondly it would be quite a story for them to tell about their new house!

'IF this is real?'.

There's always one idiot who thinks that every thread is made up.

one of the things that people always uphold as a post which is unlikely to be real is a thread where it runs out and there ends up being thread2, thread3 and so on.

I’m not saying this is one, but some of the most prolific troll posts on MN have been posts where there have been multiple threads about the same thing.

Willmafrockfit · 28/08/2023 10:15

aw thank you so much @Catsos for the picture
bless his mischievous self

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 28/08/2023 10:15

Can you still see him today?

Mumsanetta · 28/08/2023 10:16

@Catsos i hope you aren’t just ignoring those posters telling you that allowing your cat to terrorise the neighbourhood (and other cats) by constantly entering their home for YEARS isn’t ok. Hopefully this incident will motivate you to build a catio or otherwise cat proof your garden. As another poster said on the other thread, you are very lucky that your cat hasn’t come to harm after years of this going on.

I don’t think the RSPCA won’t break in on the first day, they will come and leave a card and then come back in 24 hours.

It’s worth a try but I don’t think OP will want to leave it another 24 hours.

Just want to say you aren't alone, hopefully RSPCA / police will change their minds but if by tonight you get nowhere I would just break the cat trap -look for a YouTube video on a similar one on how to fit and do the reverse.

My friend has a cat tunnel through a wall, it’s about 50cm long. I can’t work out how/why one could be long enough to have a bend in it though. OP can you actually see the inner cat flap from outside?

SupermarketMum · 28/08/2023 10:17

OP I haven’t RTTT so this may have already been suggested, but you could pay £3 to buy the title deeds from the land registry website, and it will have the names of the new owners. Then you can have them on FB and Bob’s your uncle 😄

MonumentalLentil · 28/08/2023 10:17

You can remove a double glazed panel as I said previously.
Please just bloody do it and we can stop with the repeated break the catflap, call the Police/RSPCA, post on Facebook, check the Land Registry posts from people who haven't waded through and read all the other posts saying the same thing or reading the answers.

1.Land Registry was taking 3 months to update before Covid, it probably takes 3 years now.
2.There is a bend in the tunnel where the catflap is so a broom handle isn't going to break it open.
3.Police aren't interested, neither are RSPCA.
4.Owners are not local so unless they have joined the exact same FB group will not see a post. Will also not want everyone knowing the house is empty.
5.If internal doors are shut the cat will not be ale to access other rooms, so may not get any food or water.

PLEASE get into the house and save everyone another 20 threads of the same stuff. Just pop a window, and choose one where the cat is in case internal doors are locked. Or get a crowbar and pop the door lock as I said on the previous thread. If an alarm goes off it won't be a bad thing.

Oooh bugger off, don't you think she has enough stress.... what do you expect her to do?!

Skybluecoat · 28/08/2023 10:17

One of my cats repeatedly went back to our old house when we moved, but not very far away.

The new owner was a BTL landlord, and it was still empty, and they hadn’t changed the locks. Luckily DD had a spare set of “lost” keys in an old school bag so we were able to liberate the kitty.

If I had to break in though I definitely would.

NotDavidTennant · 28/08/2023 10:17

How can there by a bend in a cat flap going through a straight wall? How long can this 'tunnel' be?

Goatymum · 28/08/2023 10:18

Awww he is gorgeous.
there’s some great advice on here, I’d go w fire brigade non emergency number and failing that, a locksmith if police/rspca are no use.
so annoying about the flap as you could easily smash a regular one (that’s how we were burgled years ago - burglars smashed through flap and hooked keys out that way - we had left them in the lock. )

That's assuming they are on FB.

Willmafrockfit · 28/08/2023 10:19

surely by now the police/rspca will help? yesterday they said give it more time
otherwise fire and rescue

MonumentalLentil · 28/08/2023 10:20

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/08/2023 10:18

That's assuming they are on FB.

They were taking 3 months to update deeds pre-Covid, won't be done yet.

The FB issue has already been discounted by OP, if you read their posts on the previous thread.
