Glad you got him back OP!

😭

I'd missed this. OMFG. Is this poster serious?! Cats have as much rights as humans? We've gone to an all time low here!🤣

Wrongsideofpennines · 28/08/2023 17:29

So happy you have your cat back. Hooray for the builder!

And if its all been a huge elaborate wind up - I don't care, I've enjoyed it all.

momonpurpose · 28/08/2023 17:29

Honestly I'd be finding a way to make extra money because they can easily sue. Put yourself in their shoes. Rug cleaning isn't going to cut it. I'd be very worried that someone might put a permanent stop on your cats wandering. It happened to us and was devastating

Mumsanetta · 28/08/2023 17:27

Tbf I am from London.

So am I. originally.

I would knock this allvon the head and calling the police.

Their future privacy? Bloody awful

As I posted up thread, the OP will be able to claim on her pet insurance.

I read most of yesterdays thread and am so glad to see that the cat has been liberated none the worse for wear ♥️🐈‍⬛♥️

This is exactly the kind of WTAF situation that has plagued me my entire life so I have a huge amount of sympathy for you OP…..

My worst pet related one was when I was looking after my adult DS cat as he was living in a house share and pets weren’t allowed. We moved house from our flat taking said cat with us, and on the first night he embarked on a Great Escape mission and finally got out into the garden - we still don’t know how. I just caught sight of him disappearing into next doors garden through the hedge and panic ensued.

The house next door was a small hotel, so, wearing pyjamas and boots as it was dark, I followed him through the hedge with a packet of treats and a phone torch to stealthily lure him home. I was terrified of being seen, so I was stalking him through the rhododendrons shaking the treats and making quiet entreaties to him to come back.

Little demon kept letting me get within a couple of feet from him and then he’d run off, sit down, watch me with clear amusement mixed with disdain and repeat the process, with me getting more agitated by the minute.

After 45 minutes I gave up, went home and rang my son to tell him what had happened. He was crying, I was crying, we thought as a senior house cat we’d never see him again.

In the meantime my late DP, slightly exasperated by the whole thing, sauntered brazenly down the hotel drive into the garden, resplendent in dressing gown and New Rocks, and returned minutes later with cat content in his arms.

I rang my son to impart the good news - he cried, I cried, cat and DP got extra treats and for the next three weeks our new house was probably more secure than Broadmoor…..

When it comes to our furry companions, people either get it or they don’t…. so I totally understand the turmoil such a situation can cause…. And I hope your new neighbours are somewhat sympathetic as it’s clear that you were trying to resolve the situation by any means possible and intend to make amends….. So glad alls well that ends well….

This is actually what I meant when I said I felt sorry for her cat but didn’t quite have the heart to say the words.

@Parker231 i bet you the OP doesn’t have insurance.

@adriftabroad quite. But I now live in Hertfordshire where this would probably be dealt with through solicitors!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 28/08/2023 17:36

Aww I'm so pleased your feline bestie has been liberated
I posted yesterday about contacting the Fire brigade so I'm glad the builder answered
Will the builders be there tomorrow when owners return?
If so, they'd mention it
Perhaps leave a note on the door explaining and that you would like to discuss rectifying any damage

CustardySergeant · 28/08/2023 17:37

"late last night I went back to the house and poked some thinly sliced honey roasted ham through the bathroom window air vent"

Did you forget to retrieve that as well?

Itsnotrightbutitsok · 28/08/2023 17:37

GirlInterrupted · 28/08/2023 17:23

I can't see them, I Must know

There are tabs for:
RSPCA emergency contact,
Do cats like crab sticks,
How long can a cat live….(I assume the rest says without water),
Window repair in…,
Locksmith in Hamp….,

And the last one is rightmove properties for sale 😁😁

Lovegood · 28/08/2023 17:38

And to the trolls calling you a “cheeky fuck” for trying your utmost to stop your much loved pet from starving to death: mumsnet is truly a snakepit!! I would’ve been willing to smash the window with the birdbath in a heartbeat if one of mine was stuck in there!! Honestly some people are truly awful, don’t let them get to you xx

^ this times a thousand!

adriftabroad · 28/08/2023 17:38

It is a complicated wind up or she is a sandwich short of a picnic.

You cannot expect neighbours to put up with this. Every time they leave cutesy might flap around and break in/post bits of chicken through the letter box.

There was a huge thread about cat piss this weekend. You need to replace everything.

ILikeDungs · 28/08/2023 17:38

M: says something pretty nasty about OP
A: agrees with M, and ooooh errr Londoners
M: actually, I am from London
A: me too!
me: thinks, please make it stop

Wow, what a shitty post. Your cat hatred is really showing.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 28/08/2023 17:42

Oh, I'm so glad you've broken him out.

That catflap is weird. My moggy doesn't even like using the ordinary one. He'd definitely put in a refusal at that.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 28/08/2023 17:46

@Catsos

I'm so pleased he's safe.

Ignore the nasty comments. Some people are talking as if you deliberately put him in there to cause damage. And either you or they ( or both) will have insurance which will cover the cost of any damage anyway.

Oh, I've just got it. I didn't even think you meant they'd hurt your cat! Sorry to hear that. I thought you meant that they'd worked out a way of stopping the cat getting into their garden.

What?! What? I explained I hadn't quite processed what the PP meant. Extreme reaction there.

Mumsanetta · 28/08/2023 17:52

@StarbucksSmarterSister I like cats. It’s certain types of pet owners or just CFs I dislike.
