Meh. Who cares? It’s been entertaining.

Is there a reason you're so rude? I can't understand why someone would go out of their way to be horrible to a stranger on the internet.

I find it incredibly difficult to stomach this level of don’t give a shit about other people’s homes, time and money. She didn’t even remember to remove the 2 day old crab sticks that have been sitting by the window when she got the chance. My sympathy lies with her cat, her elderly neighbours and their cats who have put up with this type of shit for years and her new neighbours whose heart will likely sink when they come home to this shit show.

I didn’t say I wouldn’t pay, I just said I hope it’s not too expensive, it’s massive. I’ll offer to have it professionally cleaned at least.
Tomorrow they are coming to the house according to the builder and I will see what they say

Check your cat insurance - it often covers damages incurred by your pet.

JT69 · 28/08/2023 17:15

Just caught up - so pleased he’s been liberated ! You re getting some flak on here but if you are offering to pay for damages I wouldn’t be too worried if I was your new neighbour . In the middle of a renovation these things are easily fixed .

saltinesandcoffeecups · 28/08/2023 17:15

FWIW @Catsos if I were the homeowners I’d be happy you got your boy back and would be reasonable about everything. (I’d also find it funny).

(Blah blah blah to anyone thinking about replying to me that they’d horrified, shaking with rage, sobbing, or whatever other classic mumsnet response is…don’t bother. )

Leave a note with your contact details, have pie, gin, an apology card from your cat, and/or a nice bottle of wine ready for when you do go over to retrieve your crab sticks.

OccasionalHope · 28/08/2023 17:15

I’m so glad you’ve got your beautiful boy out.

NotTerfNorCis · 28/08/2023 17:16

As one cat lover to another, I'm happy for you!

Can't believe the spiteful comments of some in this thread. What's wrong with people!

ILikeDungs · 28/08/2023 17:16

Mumsanetta give it a rest. Nobody even believes your indignation. And stop bullying the OP. Honestly, why are people like this??

I do.
Nobody is bullying.

If they are from London, they will have a very different attitude to intruders than some here.

TonTonMacoute · 28/08/2023 17:20

Glad you got your kitty back safe.

Just put a note through the door with your contact details, if they are cat people they will understand. It's basically an accident, they may well be covered by insurance anyway.

Ilovethewild · 28/08/2023 17:20

Well done Op for getting your boy back esp as you didn’t have to break in!

do let us know how it goes with the neighbours 🐈🐈‍⬛ And the🦀sticks 😝

LuckyPeonies · 28/08/2023 17:20

@Catsos So glad your beautiful cat is home! We took in a neighborhood stray 16 years ago, he would chase the neighbor’s cats through their cat flaps to beat them up in their own homes. Everyone was quite happy he became a house cat who only had supervised garden visits.

Growlybear83 · 28/08/2023 17:22

I'm so pleased that you've got your cat home safely. There are some horrible posts on both threads, but I suppose it's no more than I would expect to see on Mumsnet. I've followed your threads since your first post yesterday, and I don't think there's any more you could have done, despite the repeated posts giving you exactly the same advice, often from people who clearly haven't read the threads.

The most important thing is that your cat is safe. If the house is currently being renovated, I would think it's unlikely that the rug is new and there's nothing to say that it's an expensive one anyway. Your cat probably hasn't done many wees in the house as he wasn't taking in much fluid so hopefully he's only used the one area, and if it's just gone onto the floorboards, I'm sure the cleaning products that other people have provided links to will work. The crab sticks may smell a bit by tomorrow, but the smell with be gone in a few minutes with the windows open. I wonder if you could try to catch the builders at 8 when they arrive in the morning and ask them to remove the crab sticks and ham, and open the windows, then hopefully the house will be smell free when the owners arrive. If they've got a long journey they're not likely to be there too early. I also wouldn't worry to much about the scratches that the cat made trying to get out - it's unlikely that it will need more than a bit of poly filler and a couple of coats of emulsion.

And as to the various cat-hating trolls on here, get a grip! Cats exist and have as equal a right to exist as humans. It's not their fault humans have urbanised the earth with their walled gardens and deadly roads and traffic, infrastructure noise, pollution. What will you be suggesting next - birds shouldn't be allowed to fly in case they drop bird poo on your property? Foxes and squirrels need to be caged? Hedgehogs?

😭

Bubop · 28/08/2023 17:25

I’m so glad you got your cat back OP! Just think, no matter how embarrassing it is, it’s better than him being stuck in there Flowers

Fuck that. If it was me I'd no way be claiming MY house insurance for damage by someone else's bloody cat! I dislike cats- not all of us coo over them- & would be asking for everything to be made good, including flooring & a new bathroom vent (ham pushed through a vent? Who even does that? I could understand putting it through an ajar window, but an air vent?). As PP said, this is no cutesy story. I'd be so pissed off.

My indignation, as you’ve put it, is actually genuine. Perhaps because i worked very hard to save for my home and would have been gutted to come home to this. I would be even more gutted to find out what type of neighbour I had! About 50% of that would be a response to the OP’s very blasé attitude to the damage caused.

poor dogs, no dog flap here

Inastatus · 28/08/2023 17:27

@Catsos - so pleased you have him back. He’s gorgeous. I haven’t RTFT but just wanted to reassure you that you did the right thing by trying to get food to him as my vet told me that cats can deteriorate very rapidly without eating for a couple of days.

CwmYoy · 28/08/2023 17:27

Hilarious. Of course they don't - kill a cat then kill a human - see which you get the life sentence for.

Cats should be confined to the owner's property not wandering about shitting in flower beds and vegetable plots.

Some cat owners are utterly deluded and irrational.
