OP you are coming across as very entitled. Slightly amused.

I would knock that on the head straight away.

You will have a big bill and need to say a genuine sorry. As a minimum.

I would feel disgusted if it were my newly renovated home (and I have a cat)

ManchesterGirl2 · 28/08/2023 16:46

Oh OP. I'm so glad that your cat is okay, that's the important thing. Let's hope that the owners have a sense of humour, maybe you will become friends and you'll be telling this origin story for years. I'd buy them a bottle of wine or some flowers if you can.

You'll never guess why it reeks of piss and rotting ham and fish! Funny story...

Oh god 🙈 just when I think I can’t get anymore embarrassed.

I’m glad the posts have helped keep you distracted, good luck for tomorrow & congratulations on the new job 🤗 🎉

I’m dreading tomorrow, I hadn’t posted this as I was getting absolutely flamed and it was stressing me out but late last night I went back to the house and poked some thinly sliced honey roasted ham through the bathroom window air vent as I panicked after reading cats can die from some toxic shock if they don’t eat for 48 hours 😭 so i’ve got to tell the new neighbours about that too. Never been more embarrassed in my life

Do you think you’ll actually keep your cat safe now? You are the one who put it in harms way.

Not only did you put it in a dangerous situation but you’ve ruined your neighbours new house.

I don’t believe in karma, but if I did, there would be a whole heap of shitty karma coming towards you.

I didn’t say I wouldn’t pay, I just said I hope it’s not too expensive, it’s massive. I’ll offer to have it professionally cleaned at least.
Tomorrow they are coming to the house according to the builder and I will see what they say

Hello @Catsos

Chuffed you've got your cat back (he's beautiful).

Please ignore the shit slinging from the non cat people.

And for inspiration re naughty cats look up Kevin on Instagram. He escapes and gets into scrapes too -one his escapades ended up in the evening standard 😂😂

Thread 3 may well be about problems with the builders.

Thread 3 will be about the neighbours unfairly asking her to pay for the damage 🙄

Just the rug? What about the cost of getting rid of the fish and wee smells?

Yup this. You need to pay for ALL the damage your animal caused.

ClematisBlue49 · 28/08/2023 16:54

Very glad to see that the OP's cat has been freed.

I expect the builder will have given the owners a heads-up already. If I were the OP I would drop in a note, and also keep an eye out for when they arrive tomorrow and go round there. Depending on what the wood floor has been treated with, it might not be too bad, and as the PP says, the rug is unlikely to be new if it's on a building site.

This thread reminds me of when I was staying with my mum once and woke to find one of next door's cats in bed with me, which gave me the fright of my life! We worked out he must have been under the bed all night. Luckily he didn't do any damage and we all laughed about it. :)

Hayley0203 · 28/08/2023 16:54

Omg yaaaaaaaay so glad to see this happy ending!

MavisMcMinty · 28/08/2023 16:56

Catsos · 28/08/2023 15:51

😩 I’m really not trying to be. How should I word the note do you think? Otherwise when they arrive they’re going to find my crabsticks in their bedroom and be really confused?

I’m actually just wanting to move at this point. I’m on Rightmove as we speak 😫 I’m so mortified with the way I had to belly flop over the garden fence in full view of my neighbours. None of my neighbours helped either.

I had to go back and look closer at your photograph of the tabs on your computer after people’s comments - that’s hilarious!!

Enoughnowbrandon · 28/08/2023 16:56

So pleased for you 💐

Puffalicious · 28/08/2023 16:56

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 28/08/2023 15:57

Well I don't think you're being weird in a bad way. I was just saying to my husband that if this were my house I would die laughing, be very glad the cat is okay, and probably end up befriending both you and the floofy menace because a no context note about the manky crabsticks in my house is the way to my heart.

Well I wouldn't be an arse to my neighbour, but Id not be amused. I'm not a cat lover, am hugely allergic & cat piss smells bloody awful. I wouldn’t be happy eoth damaged, wooden flooring, damaged wall or damaged cat-flap or with getting a new, expensive rug cleaned, I'd want it replaced.

I know it's an animal that can't be controlled (cat shit on my grass makes me livid & feel ill picking it up) but someone needs to take responsibility. Would home insurance cover this? I was amazed when my DS damaged a car when he was involved in a road accident- my home insurance covered it.

Doggymummar · 28/08/2023 16:59

Hurrah

anyolddinosaur · 28/08/2023 17:01

Do you know how far the renovation has gone? If it's almost finished maybe it is a new rug. If the builders are still working in and out daily no-one would leave a valuable rug there. They may have been planning to get rid of it anyway and left it there to protect the floor from the builders.

I could probably forgive you for rescuing the cat but not for the crab sticks and ham. The builder will probably have to remove that vent now and replace it.

Cats are generally not legally liable for damage but people posting things in your house are.

Is there a reason you're so rude? I can't understand why someone would go out of their way to be horrible to a stranger on the internet.

diddl · 28/08/2023 17:01

Shouldn't you be offering to have the floors cleaned, walls repainted & to replace the rug?

MumblesParty · 28/08/2023 17:03

OP you sound very chilled about the damage your cat has done to their house. The place will stink of cat wee, the cat flap is broken, god only knows where the food is that you put through, the expensive rug is trashed, there is mud on the walls and scratches all over the place - and yet you say “I’ll get the rug cleaned, hope it’s not too expensive as I don’t have much money”. With respect, your finances aren’t their concern. Your cat did a load of damage and you have to make it right, whatever the cost. I can’t believe how relaxed you are about it, now that your cat is safe.

DinnaeFashYersel · 28/08/2023 17:05

I am so happy you got your cat back safe and sound.

I am NOT a pet person but if I was your neighbour I would have rather you broke in, got the cat and retified and paid for any damages than the alternative.

What a couple of days you have had. But a happy ending.

Pudmyboy · 28/08/2023 17:05

So happy for you and your beautiful cat @Catsos !
You mentioned in the first thread that the new neighbours had/have cats, so hopefully they will have some sympathy, would you show them these two threads to highlight just how much effort you have put into getting your beautiful moggy out?
And please ignore the nasty comments, you come across as a decent caring made-a-bit-batty-from-the-stress-but-otherwise-sane person.
Cats can make us do mad things, but your thing was actually sensible: tried to ensure your cat had food and water and through your diligence found someone legally able to get your cat out.
Yes you didn't get a chance to clean up but that's small potatoes compared to getting your cat out safe and sound.
You will need to start thread 3: The New Neighbours and My Red Face!

MadeForThis · 28/08/2023 17:05

Hilarious 😆

colachive · 28/08/2023 17:06

OP I’ve been thinking about this thread all night and so glad he’s back!! You did so well to resolve it without causing major damage and were very patient with your apathetic neighbours, all with the poor baby looking out of the window at you.

And to the trolls calling you a “cheeky fuck” for trying your utmost to stop your much loved pet from starving to death: mumsnet is truly a snakepit!! I would’ve been willing to smash the window with the birdbath in a heartbeat if one of mine was stuck in there!! Honestly some people are truly awful, don’t let them get to you xx

Aw I’m so happy for you and your cat.
I hope the damage is not too costly and that your neighbours are understanding and that you can all see the funny side soon enough!
at least your cat is home and safe (and a very beautiful cat!)
