I’m glad he’s safe, for his sake.

Now are you going to be a responsible pet owner and keep him safe in future by cat proofing your garden?

Doubtful.

Dear God, you’re a delight. Even the cat trapped in the house is less of a sour puss than you 🙄.

glad you’re being reunited OP X

Bellyblueboy · 28/08/2023 11:52

Brilliant!

we need a photo of the liberated cat please

HelpMeGetThrough · 28/08/2023 11:52

Woo hoo! Please take that kind builder a crate of lagers!

Along with Harpic and a stiff brush to clean the house.

Globules · 28/08/2023 11:52

Been following with interest from last night.

I'm so happy for you to read your update.

I want a photo of the freed cat too. I have no doubt he'll nonchalantly stroll out in that haughty "nothing to see here" way cats do.

Really great news. 😸

butteringthestairs · 28/08/2023 11:53

The photo of the crabsticks was indeed a brilliant illustration. Yes, we need more crabstick photos. And a photograph of the birdbath would be helpful so we assess whether it's likely to break the window. Grin

PuckyMup · 28/08/2023 11:53

While you’re in, clean up the bloody crab sticks and water, and have a good hunt for any cat pee/poop - beer for the builder and a hell of a sorry and welcome hamper for the owners

Sundaybaby · 28/08/2023 11:54

I’m delighted for you, OP. What a wonderful man to liberate Mr. Tom.

SpicyNoodleSoup · 28/08/2023 11:54

Great news OP! We need a photo of the freed cat!

Not going to lie, I did laugh a lot about the crab sticks and the ham as it is completely bonkers but also something I would totally do Blush

Cosycardigans · 28/08/2023 11:54

Dont forget to check for cat pee and poop, and ask the builder to lock the cat flap until the owners move in. I doubt you could cat proof your garden overnight as some sanctimonious posters have suggested.

Oh yes, definitely. Imagine the stink!

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 28/08/2023 11:54

First of all I'd be listening to the vet nurses who are saying you have much more time than you think.

I can see that the flap is difficult to access, you need something flexible enough to get round the bend but rigid enough to push and hold the other end open. Difficult combination but plumbers and chimney sweeps come to mind as possible ideas. Someone has already suggested flexible drain rods. Can you find a friendly plumber or sweep who could advise?

Alternatively you might find that a quick burst from a pressure washer poked in as far as the bend and angled towards the flap might be strong enough to open it. You'd need to combine this with something flexible but not necessarily strong (length of hosepipe? one of those bendy fluffy long handled cobweb cleaners?) to hold it open. Cat would also have to be curious and ingenious (though it sounds as if yours is) as the best you'll be able to achieve is a small opening with the flap going the wrong way, he'd have to work out how to use a paw to open it and get through from underneath the flap.

Redebs · 28/08/2023 11:55

Indoor cats are the responsible choice

Wingedharpy · 28/08/2023 11:55

Guinness for the builder,😉 surely?

snowflakeinastorm · 28/08/2023 11:55

@Catsos
This sounds a nightmare, and would worry me too with my cat. I have only read your posts, so someone may have already said this. Cats are very clever at sorting themselves out, your cat could hopefully, get some water from the toilet when desperate. Do they have a letter box you could call to your cat, and put some treats and ice cubes through?

If no joy tomorrow with builders, I would call the RSPCA again, and not get off the phone until they come out.

XelaM · 28/08/2023 11:55

Glad you're getting your cat back (who is beautiful) but now cat-proof your garden so he can't get into other people's homes.

CantThinkOfANameAtAll · 28/08/2023 11:56

I've only read OPs posts. I was going to suggest dynorod or other drain experts as they have tools that go round bends etc. But I see the builders are coming! Hope to see the newly released prisoner doing a walk of shame 😂

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 28/08/2023 11:56

Whoops so glad he's sorted!

🥹🥹MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH 🥹🥹

The builders (their number was on the renovation sign outside) have finally answered their phone after 48 hours of me calling and texting, an extremely kind Irish man who has found the whole thing hilarious. He said he will be come over to liberate my cat 😭😭😭😭

I’m soooooo bloody happy. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE KIND AND SYMPATHETIC REPLIES 💗💗💗 I’ve been reading them all and it’s really helped me feel less alone.

To those trolling me, I really hope you never have an emergency and need help, as karma will be waiting for you 😊

So you had the numbers of the builders and were ringing them continuously - that's a new one. They are coming to rescue the cat.

Meanwhile you have posted pictures, been mean about your very nosy neighbours. Climbed over a fence. Said you would smash through the window.

Meanwhile people are genuinely worried about your cat because they have been in a similar situation.

I'm also a very kind Irish person by the way.

So pleased your cat is now safe. Can't understand why it's taken two threads to do this, and stress to those watching especially as you never told us in the first place you had the numbers of the builders.

To those trolling me, I really hope you never have an emergency and need help, as karma will be waiting for you 😊

How kind.

sunlighter · 28/08/2023 11:56

And as to the various cat-hating trolls on here, get a grip! Cats exist and have as equal a right to exist as humans. It's not their fault humans have urbanised the earth with their walled gardens and deadly roads and traffic, infrastructure noise, pollution. What will you be suggesting next - birds shouldn't be allowed to fly in case they drop bird poo on your property? Foxes and squirrels need to be caged? Hedgehogs?

Bumblepig · 28/08/2023 11:56

What a misery guts you are! 😂

Gummybear75 · 28/08/2023 11:56

My cat spent 8 days trapped in someone's garage, with no water or food supply and by some miracle was fine after a good drink and food.
Fingers crossed your cat is free soon.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 28/08/2023 11:56

Great result. I’m sure you are so overjoyed.

I know that’s not the actual cat flap set up, but wow that’s dangerous. Poor cat. Also how do you clean it? I’m always scrubbing my catflap, it gets filthy.

MavisMcMinty · 28/08/2023 11:56

Well I missed this whole drama, and am very glad it will soon be resolved, but please could someone explain how to “cat-proof a garden”?

TheBarbieEffect · 28/08/2023 11:57

Bumblepig · 28/08/2023 11:56

What a misery guts you are! 😂

Yes, a terrible misery for thinking pet owners should be responsible and keep their pets safe 🤔

Ballymenfunfacts · 28/08/2023 11:57

Check the cat flap to see if you need to put something over it to block it!
