I would just smash a window. Don't use the bird bath though! There should be a weak point in the glass at one of the bottom corners.

I would pay to replace the window but I absolutely would not be paying for any other damages in the property caused by the cat as other posters are suggesting!

Absolutely idiotic of the new owners to install and leave unlocked a cat flap into an empty property so that's on them.

No it isn’t. It’s idiotic of irresponsible animal owners to not keep their nuisance pets safe.

She could have catproofed her garden. She didn’t. Now her cat is paying the price for that.

The builders (their number was on the renovation sign outside) have finally answered their phone after 48 hours of me calling and texting, an extremely kind Irish man who has found the whole thing hilarious. He said he will be come over to liberate my cat 😭😭😭😭

I’m soooooo bloody happy. THANK YOU SO SO SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THE KIND AND SYMPATHETIC REPLIES 💗💗💗 I’ve been reading them all and it’s really helped me feel less alone.

To those trolling me, I really hope you never have an emergency and need help, as karma will be waiting for you 😊

Genuinely thank you so much to everyone who left messages of suggestions and support on my last post. I had to leave him in the house overnight as it was so dark I couldn’t do anything more.
He is still here, pretty sure he knows I am trying to rescue him.
He hasn’t touched the crab sticks I left but I am not 100% certain he can get into the room. I am determined to get him out today as it will be 48 hours of him inside :(

That look says "What IS all the fuss about?" With a hint of "I'm glad everyone can see how handsome I am!"

I didn't post on your previous thread, @Catsos - I didn't have any advice to offer - but I kept coming back to it, to see if his Lordship had been released from Durance Vile. Fingers - and paws - crossed that he is out soon.

If I was your new neighbour, you definitely would NOT have to move - having grown up with cats, I know that they are both very precious to us and at the same time willing to do anything to cause trouble, so I'd understand why you had to do whatever you needed to, to get him out.

We have a different problem with our cat - whose (very appropriate) nickname is CatBastard. He has decided that he doesn't live here any more - he visits a neighbour who gives him dry cat food (that we supply), and other people in the street update us on his condition whenever he is in their gardens, but the only ties he has to us are his chip and his PetPlan insurance. We have tried keeping him in for a few days, and feeding him the nicest food, but as soon as we open the catflap again, he heads for the wide blue yonder.

We've even tried putting a notice on the village FB page, asking if anyone thinks he is their cat - if he has found a home he likes better, and they want a grumpy old cat, we just want him to have a safe home.

DisaL · 28/08/2023 11:48

I hope you rescue your cat soon OP, he looks to be calm enough at the minute and I imagine as soon as you get to him, he'll just stroll past you wondering what all the fuss was about.

Maybe once he's safely back with you, you could buy him this in case he wants to go exploring again 😉

For ONCE, the Daily Fail arseholes could do a bit of good by publishing this.

Exactly!!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 28/08/2023 11:49

Ohh that is excellent news, @Catsos! Hurrah for helpful builders.

rosao · 28/08/2023 11:49

@TheBarbieEffect it's a cat. They wander and explore which I'm assuming the new owners of the property are aware of as they've installed a bloody cat flap!

Goshdarnitgoofy · 28/08/2023 11:49

XelaM · 28/08/2023 11:48

Exactly!!!

100% agree.

sunlighter · 28/08/2023 11:50

Thanks god for that. Congratulations.

User5653218 · 28/08/2023 11:50

Hooray! I'm so happy.

madeinmanc · 28/08/2023 11:50

There is no such thing as karma.

Happy your cat is being liberated.

simonell · 28/08/2023 11:50

Aw amazing 😻 must have been so stressful for you ! I was just going to suggest going round with a hammer rather than breaking the birdbath 😂
He will be so happy to get out

TheBarbieEffect · 28/08/2023 11:50

I’m glad he’s safe, for his sake.

Now are you going to be a responsible pet owner and keep him safe in future by cat proofing your garden?

Doubtful.

FreeRider · 28/08/2023 11:51

I was just about to post 'Better to ask for forgiveness than permission. Break the window, get your cat' but your update is brilliant!

Would love to see a photo of you and your beautiful cat happily reunited!

LivStanshall · 28/08/2023 11:51

XelaM · 28/08/2023 11:43

Cats get through windows as well. I don't see the point in getting a pet if you don't keep it in your own garden by cat-proofing the garden or getting a catio. It's completely unacceptable to let the cat damage other people's homes. We have many pets of our own, but they are our responsibility and don't impose on the neighbours.

😂😂😂

harriethoyle · 28/08/2023 11:51

Hurray! More naughty cat photos once he's liberated please (and remember to clean up the crabsticks 🤣)

rosao · 28/08/2023 11:51

Excellent new @Catsos! Now don't forget to "Sort your cat out" 🤣.

HouseIsOnFire · 28/08/2023 11:51

Conqueeftador · 28/08/2023 11:07

I hope you get your cat out soon op 💐
I’m guessing the flap is like this for those wondering….

Oooh that's brilliant! Must really stop draughts!

Woo hoo! Please take that kind builder a crate of lagers!

LisaD1 · 28/08/2023 11:52

The challenge you have is not knowing your new neighbours and how they may react. I’m a massive animal lover and anyone who knows me knows I’d be fine with you breaking a window to retrieve your cat and then paying to rectify the damage. Your new neighbours may not take the same approach and you could see yourself looking at a breaking and entering charge.

your car doesn’t look like it’s on deaths door (thank god) or particularly stressed in the pics so in your position I’d hold out until tomorrow. Estate agents and builders should be back then.

I think the 3-4 days is a bit alarmist (Not from you but wherever you read it), there’s multiple fb posts around here if cars being shut in sheds for over a week.

I hope you get some help and get your cat home soon, be kind to yourself, try not to panic.

DisaL · 28/08/2023 11:52

Fantastic news - hope you're reunited soon 😍

iwasthereason · 28/08/2023 11:52

Karma? Kind of ironic considering the situation you've just been in.

HeatherMoores · 28/08/2023 11:52

I don’t understand what’s so bad about poking ham slices through a vent?

Nothing I suppose… compared to flinging crab sticks through a window. Depends what your baseline is 😀

DON’T break a window yet. You’ve been told by a veterinary nurse on the thread that your cat will be fine for now and tomorrow.

Could you put food and water through the letterbox if the worst came to the worst, presumably he can get into the hall?

Edit: Great news!

Issummernearlyover · 28/08/2023 11:52

I do hope that helpful builder will also liberate crab sticks. Maybe he'll let you in to remove any offerings. Looking forward to seeing a pic of happy released cat.
