To think I can do all of this in one day? (In London)

I land in Gatwick at 845, then take the train to London bridge station and drop my bag there and then continue my way to trinity square to have a haircut at 10. At 12 I have a meeting at Southwark bridge. Meeting ends at 2 and then there's another meeting at the Shard at 2:30. Then leave just before 5 and catch the train back to Gatwick to take my flight back, which departs at 6:45.

I can stay overnight (as I think catching that flight back might be a bit too risky). I wouldn't have anything with me beyond my handbag with my laptop.

Not a chance, Departing the plane to passport control is long enough, 10 minutes to station if your quick and land south term, if you land north add extra for the shuttle, plus it's normally super busy, whatever the wait is for the train, train to London is 30-40 mins depending on the train you get.

Platform 3/4 is quite close to the exit but it's a busy station.

I've done this trip recently (July) you'll lucky to be in London by 1hr40

I love in London, so many things can go wrong. I wouldn't make this plan

trying29 · 25/08/2023 20:12

You might make it. I live in Norwood junction - it’s 10 mins to London Bridge and 20 to Gatwick. If you make all the connections you can get to Gatwick fast

Butterflyfluff · 25/08/2023 20:14

Not a chance - the last few times I’ve landed at a London airport they’ve not even had the steps or air bridges ready.

Even the pilot was taking the piss about how ridiculous the situation was, so clearly it’s common place.

Butterflyfluff · 25/08/2023 20:18

Just realised you’re only allowing 1 and 3/4 hours from leaving central London to your flight taking off!

Complete madness!

Yes that's the bit I'm most iffy about... The haircut comes second, but I think I could make it if the stars align.

I have to pay a £50% deposit and I'm assuming they'd bill me the other 50% for a no show (or late show).

If the stylist is aware that I might be late and that I'll definitely need to leave by 1130, then I could potentially be OK.

Not the point of the thread but I'm intrigued to know where you're getting your haircut in Trinity Square. Have never noticed a salon there , is it in someone's house?

Nope, it's here!

(Somebody recommended this salon in another thread).

aaah I was thinking of Trinity Church Square, confusingly also in Southwark! 😂

Your place looks fab.

She lands at 8:45 @Rosecoffeecup Jow the hell is she going to be on the 8:46 Thameslink?

i think it’s a no from me. Get your hair cut after the meeting and stay over.

Perhaps you could read on 🙄

Purpleplace · 25/08/2023 21:20

Honestly, no. This is exactly the sort of plan I would hatch and it’s amazing seeing its batshittery when it’s someone else’s.

You might just about get away with the meetings and hotel overnight. Flying into City, yes. Gatwick and Thameslink? No chance. (please give us an update when you give it a go though)

My only other options are:

a) leave insanely early and drive (no thanks!)

b) take the sleeper train (I'm pondering about but there are no berths available from what I can see, so no thanks!)

c) fly the night before and pay for a cheap hotel (but seems too much for a hair cut!)

I would absolutely justify a hotel for the haircut if the haircut was good enough 💁‍♀️

camelfinger · 25/08/2023 21:38

I would not bother with haircut, not drop bag off and leave well before 5. Then it should be fine.

Obliv · 25/08/2023 21:43

@gabagrowl Edinburgh to London is not England to England!

Butterflyfluff · 25/08/2023 21:49

Doesn’t check in close 45 minutes before take off on all flights - so you’ve got 1 hour to get from central London to the check in desk at Gatwick?

If I knew she was THAT god maybe but she's never done my hair! She's in theory proper "haute coiffure". This is a sample of her work

you flew from one england airport to another airport in england. You may as well have gotten a train or something

It's often cheaper to fly...

Looks fairly basic bob??

I only take my carry on there's no check in, just security to go through. (As I would have checked in online)

It is. There’s nothing special about that.

00100001 · 25/08/2023 21:53

Why are people bleating on about passport control and check on?

There's no passport control for domestic flights and no need to go to check in with just hand luggage.

It's security that can be the killer.

Butterflyfluff · 25/08/2023 21:55

I’m no hairdresser but that bob is wobbly! 😂

chatenoire · 25/08/2023 22:05

Most of her stuff on IG is editorial so I guess it's hard to find "real life" examples

@00100001 ok not passport control but you do have to go through some kind of security (I assume - I last flew in 1999).
