To think I can do all of this in one day? (In London)

I land in Gatwick at 845, then take the train to London bridge station and drop my bag there and then continue my way to trinity square to have a haircut at 10. At 12 I have a meeting at Southwark bridge. Meeting ends at 2 and then there's another meeting at the Shard at 2:30. Then leave just before 5 and catch the train back to Gatwick to take my flight back, which departs at 6:45.

I can stay overnight (as I think catching that flight back might be a bit too risky). I wouldn't have anything with me beyond my handbag with my laptop.

No passport control on any domestic flights but everything in airports is slow at the min so getting ground crew/steps/air bridge/ busses then actually trudging through airport all takes time

chatenoire · 25/08/2023 18:36

It's a domestic flight, you just walk out. I can't remember how it went last time at Gatwick but that's what I did at Bristol and Edinburgh

That makes it a bit more do-able, but still very tight. Good luck!

Horriblewoman · 25/08/2023 18:35

How do you bypass passport control?!

England to England.

sparkleshin · 25/08/2023 18:45

gabagrowl · 25/08/2023 18:24

Not a chance you're keeping to this schedule.

My flight landing at 08:20am last week didn't land until 09:40 and I didn't get out the airport until 10:50. That was flying England to England too so no security or bags.

Don't bank on being able to do this op.

you flew from one england airport to another airport in england. You may as well have gotten a train or something

Nope, the Thameslink train. It's the morning of the 1st I'll have to take a taxi and have no choice

I get the Thames link all the time for work and it's very unreliable, slow and has 50 billion stops along the way. Not a cats hell in chance would you be able to do this.

Hawkins009 · 25/08/2023 18:47

@chatenoire
As long as the travel methods are not delayed and as long as the meetings don't over run. Then if it's military precision then it seems possible.

Womencanlift · 25/08/2023 18:48

Early morning flights are a busy time for the airport so chance you could be circling for ages or be waiting on the ground for a gate. Seems very tight timeline to me at both the start and end of the day

Sodthebloodypicnic · 25/08/2023 17:42

No. Didn't read past 'haircut at 10'

That.

It'll never work!

gabagrowl · 25/08/2023 18:59

@sparkleshin

The flight was 1hr 10. Booked by my office.

Would have taken 8.5hrs on trains. Train would have cost £170 more than the flight. 👍

Luckyduc · 25/08/2023 19:14

You've definitely no chance getting your hair cut at 10am. And I'd say your return to get your flight is seriously pushing it aswell especially during rush hour

Similar scenario here. It's actually cheaper to stay overnight than to take a train!

If you can get the 8.46 Thameslink, you'll be at London Bridge at 9.15 so plenty of time to get to the hairdresser

But any delays to your flight and you'll be buggered. Do you land in the south terminal, or need to shuttle from north?

On your return journey, be mindful that it can be very slow getting off the train and up to the concourse when its busy. There's work being done at the station and the platforms just arnt conducive to fast moving when there's alot of people and luggage disembarking

Also make sure you get one of the TLs that take 30-35 minutes, not a slow one which can be nearer an hour

dressedforcomfort · 25/08/2023 19:29

Last time I landed at Gatwick it took me an hour to get baggage and get through the airport.

SpamFrittersYouSay · 25/08/2023 19:31

All I would add to your proposed itinerary is a visit to Harley Street to see a cardiologist.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/08/2023 19:31

She lands at 8:45 @Rosecoffeecup Jow the hell is she going to be on the 8:46 Thameslink?

i think it’s a no from me. Get your hair cut after the meeting and stay over.

Ok @chatenoire that’s still tight. But how are you going to leave a meeting at the shard at 5pm and be On a flight at 6:45?

DialSquare · 25/08/2023 19:36

Totally missing the point of the thread but I had no idea there was a hair salon in Trinity Square. Just googled and it's in the Four Seasons hotel. I've been in there many times (would recommend the restaurants!) and never knew I could also get my hair done there too.

CrapBucket · 25/08/2023 19:37

Can you get a sleeper train instead of flying? Loads easier and I think of the cost as being hotel and travel combined.

I'm thinking of staying overnight, as at least I have done flexibility that way.

I fly into London city and I could just about do that.

flight might arrive early but you still have to sit in the plane waiting for the steps to arrive- disembark and walk through the airport - waiting for the next train (although pretty frequent).

its 30 mins on the train.

you might make it - but it will be stressful. And any delay will kill your plan

2024Hols · 25/08/2023 19:40

And remember all those people that decide to stand up early when you land and then spend ages sorting themselves out and blocking the aisles

Namechangedforthis25 · 25/08/2023 19:41

The stuff after the haircut is doable but def not the commutes to and from Gatwick. Gatwick is huge and you may have to wait a short while at Gatwick for a train

I'd move the hair appointment for the next day if you're staying overnight or after your 5pm meeting.

I was thinking of that, but she doesn't work Fridays, and her latest appointment is at 430.
