To think I can do all of this in one day? (In London)

I land in Gatwick at 845, then take the train to London bridge station and drop my bag there and then continue my way to trinity square to have a haircut at 10. At 12 I have a meeting at Southwark bridge. Meeting ends at 2 and then there's another meeting at the Shard at 2:30. Then leave just before 5 and catch the train back to Gatwick to take my flight back, which departs at 6:45.

I can stay overnight (as I think catching that flight back might be a bit too risky). I wouldn't have anything with me beyond my handbag with my laptop.

That's more or less how I feel... (And yes maybe I'll be 15 mins late for the haircut) but that's about it

I just saw the rail strikes (which is why I'm not taking the train), but also saw that I'd have to take an Uber/taxi to Gatwick the following morning.

Are you planning to get taxi from Gatwick to Trinity Square?

gabagrowl · 25/08/2023 18:24

Not a chance you're keeping to this schedule.

My flight landing at 08:20am last week didn't land until 09:40 and I didn't get out the airport until 10:50. That was flying England to England too so no security or bags.

Don't bank on being able to do this op.

Nope, the Thameslink train. It's the morning of the 1st I'll have to take a taxi and have no choice

Was that on eastern airways by any chance??

I landed at Gatwick at 8.30am one morning and JUST made my yoga class at 10.30. My gym is a minutes' walk from Trinity Square.

You might do it in a cab, but I wouldn't chance it. My plane was bang on time and Gatwick was quiet, and it was still tight.

thishasalwaysbeenme · 25/08/2023 18:26

Recently flew into Gatwick and there were long queues to get through passport control. Chances are you will have to wait for a train too, unless you are lucky. I would cancel the hairdresser and return flight or book a later one.

gabagrowl · 25/08/2023 18:27

It was Ryan air. A couple months ago I was delayed 2 hours with easyJet

gabagrowl · 25/08/2023 18:27

This was London to Edinburgh then Glasgow to London btw.

But I won't be going through passport control, just me and my cabin bag

Hahahah

This is a joke thread right?

I landed at Gatwick this morning. Took me half an hour just to walk from the plane to passport control.

Sorry it lands at 820! So there's 100mins to make it to my hair cut appointment.

No passport control, but can only land at Gatwick unfortunately.

No passport control - how come?

Needmorelego · 25/08/2023 18:31

@Westfacing I am guessing the OP is crew?

Westfacing · 25/08/2023 18:32

Or Royalty!

SheWontSheCantShesLeft · 25/08/2023 18:33

Thameslink trains are not hugely reliable at the moment.

Here’s a snapshot of services running from Gatwick to LB right now (not a strike day). There’s only a few showing as cancelled at the moment - they’re all the earlier ones. What tends to happen is that they get cancelled as time gets closer.

SheWontSheCantShesLeft · 25/08/2023 18:33

Didn’t add picture.

How do you bypass passport control?!

Or coming from somewhere that doesn't require going through passport control - Scotland or Ireland for example.

It's a domestic flight, you just walk out. I can't remember how it went last time at Gatwick but that's what I did at Bristol and Edinburgh

TakeMe2Insanity · 25/08/2023 18:37

The only airport that could give you a chance at that schedule is City.

SBHon · 25/08/2023 18:37

This is exactly the sort of plan I would try to make. Then I’m often v confused afterwards why I couldn’t fit everything in! I’m rooting for you OP.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 25/08/2023 18:38

Regular london commuter here - you’ll never make the hair appointment or the return flight on that schedule.

arrival into Gatwick at 8:20 I wouldn’t schedule anything before 10:30, ideally 11

on way back you’d need to be leaving for airport at 4:30 latest to make that flight comfortably (ie without being a stressed mess)

london city airport I’d have a totally different answer

Easily if you are flying from Scotland! ;-) or Ireland.
