No specific topic, just great advise you'd give.

Keep it simple.
(Apologies, I didn't know which other category to put this under that would gain traction)

I'll go first:

  • don't sweat the petty stuff, & don't pet the sweaty stuff.
  • if you can't open a food jar, pierce the top to get the air out and it opens right up!
  • drizzle a tablespoon of marmite into the cooking fat before you roast your potatoes (and drizzle some over the spuds)
  • if you don't have egg cups, use shot glasses
  • hair spray gets most things out of carpets. (Learnt this when staying at a boyfriends house as a teen and dropped lipstick. Blind panic and hairspray saved me!) used it ever since, in emergency situations.

Unnecessary wasn’t it really

wagasallday · 21/08/2023 17:30

Washing up liquid gets most food stains out of clothes. Put a bit on the stain, scrub it (with a towel or your thumb) little bit more on the stain and straight into the washing machine as normal. It’s got orange sauce out of white tops! Swear by it

My advice is to never read the first comment on a MN post because it's always either completely mental or just pointless

This is so true 😂

This was going to be my tip. Works on everything including tumeric and oil stains

If you've got little kids, always top your nappy bag up with supplies as soon as you get home.

Yours sincerely, woman who just had to emergency buy some nappies in tesco because she forgot to replace the ones that had been used.

washingmachineslivelongerwithcalgon · 21/08/2023 17:36

Sorry about the typo - trying to feed DD and type with one hand 😂

Same with your gym bag. Unpack and repack as soon as you get in. Put it straight in the car or you won’t go!

Hang clothes with tomato stains in the sun and it will bleach them out. Doesn't even have to be a sunny day you can just hang them in the window

If you see a ridiculously long post/thread ignore it as it's chat bot bull shit and don't answer😀

tunainatin · 21/08/2023 17:42

Since having small children I told up plastic bags and tie them in a knot before storing them. Still stored out of reach but if they do get hold of one they won't be able to stick their head in it!

Jars, a swift bang on the side of the lid on a worktop also releases the air.

Agree with washing up liquid on stains!

Gnomegnomegnome · 21/08/2023 17:43

Opening jars- tap the side of the lid on the counter and it will open easily (advise given to me on here when I was having a massive newly single parent meltdown and thought that I was failing due to not being able to open a jar!).

Laces- if double knotted just pull the laces and it will undo rather than untying each knot separately.

Helpful hint for my Dh. Put things back where they belong and you will be able to find them. Magic! Also listen and you will know the answers to most of your questions. I am not your brain.

Here's my 2p worth

If you irate or something someone said is bothering you

Remember

People treat you how they feel about you .

Save money on bottled water by filling a bottle with water.

Ihateboris · 21/08/2023 17:47

Love this thread. Spray the collar of white shirts with hairspray...it prevents makeup transfer 👌

Use your fav fabric softener mixed with water in a spray bottle to spray bedding, sofas and curtains in between washes. Well any soft furnishings really 😁

Beehappyx · 21/08/2023 17:49

@Ihateboris omg I'm going to try this! Thanks

Ive learned to take this one step further. Instead of making helpful suggestions or getting up and looking for his lost item ( not very lost) I just say, ‘oh dear, I hope you find it/ sort it out soon.’

Can be applied in multiple situations. And only give advice when actually asked for it.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/08/2023 17:49

Before getting to an airport put a strip of washi tape on the back of everyone's passport and sharpie first names on to this

Way way easier to put boarding doc with correct passport in a hurry

coxesorangepippin · 21/08/2023 17:50

When serving food, put it on the table in a Tupperware, then any leftovers can just be stored away - rather than washing up yet another serving bowl.

I only do this with fruit for the kids, not roast spuds, even I have standards, come on

😅
