No specific topic, just great advise you'd give.

Keep it simple.
(Apologies, I didn't know which other category to put this under that would gain traction)

I'll go first:

  • don't sweat the petty stuff, & don't pet the sweaty stuff.
  • if you can't open a food jar, pierce the top to get the air out and it opens right up!
  • drizzle a tablespoon of marmite into the cooking fat before you roast your potatoes (and drizzle some over the spuds)
  • if you don't have egg cups, use shot glasses
  • hair spray gets most things out of carpets. (Learnt this when staying at a boyfriends house as a teen and dropped lipstick. Blind panic and hairspray saved me!) used it ever since, in emergency situations.

If your kids get felt tip on clothes or your sofa, rug etc use hair spray or deodorant, it will get it right off

MY advice is use the quote function so later posters don't need to scroll back to try and find the good tips 😁

When something goes wrong, take a few minutes to think calmly before deciding what to do instead of panicking. I am still trying to master this skill.

If you've got little kids, always top your nappy bag up with supplies as soon as you get home.

Yours sincerely, woman who just had to emergency buy some nappies in tesco because she forgot to replace the ones that had been used.

This except I have two bags! One in the car and one in the house with the pram.

Before getting to an airport put a strip of washi tape on the back of everyone's passport and sharpie first names on to this

Way way easier to put boarding doc with correct passport in a hurry

Note to self - find out what washi tape is and where to buy it before next holiday😀

Inmybirthdaysuit · 21/08/2023 17:58

Check your bath towels for spiders before wrapping yourself up after your bath.

Masking tape will do. Washi tape is just colourful masking tape

ApocalypseNowt · 21/08/2023 18:00

Don't wrestle with pigs.

You'll both get dirty and the pig likes it.

I love this

Store bedding sets inside one of the pillowcases from the set. Saves so much time when you’re trying to find all the bits you need to make the bed.

And if you can’t say something nice, don’t bother. All those people on here sniping about spelling and someone taking 5 minutes to mumsnet while (I assume) breastfeeding - really? Did that make you feel better? Let the people be.

pollykitty · 21/08/2023 18:05

If you get deodorant marks on a top while putting it on, rub the marks against each other and they will come straight off.

LindorDoubleChoc · 21/08/2023 18:05

Advice rhymes with nice and therefore ends ice.

Leave your washing machine door and powder drawer open every night to help prevent mould and mouldy smells.

In hot weather freeze food scraps in a food caddy liner tucked away at the back of your freezer. Put out the night before or morning of bin day = no maggots in bins.

I feel like there's a back story. But I'd rather remain ignorant.
Mine is meal plan. It's saved me a fortune. I only buy what I need and I spend maybe 1/3 what I used to, with no waste

Timetoflower22 · 21/08/2023 18:07

Put the plug in the kitchen sink. Fill it with hot water from a kettle just boiled and put Zoflora in it. Makes the entire house smell insane

SpamFrittersYouSay · 21/08/2023 18:07

When your fabric conditioner bottle gets half full, top it up with tap water then shake.

Use the same volume as always. When you run out, keep that bottle then decant half of the new bottle into the old bottle and top up and shake . Add tap water to the new bottle too.

Makes no difference to softness.

If you see a ridiculously long post/thread ignore it as it's chat bot bull shit and don't answer😀

Absolutely! Mumsnet is full of them atm.

WhiteArsenic · 21/08/2023 18:23

If you are arguing with a teen about whether they can do something, ask yourself/discuss with them -a) is it actually dangerous? b) Might they seriously regret it in the future? c) is it going to make someone else unhappy?
if the answer to all three is no, is there really a good reason to stop them doing it, or is it actually unnecessary control?

amlie8 · 21/08/2023 18:23

Why is everyone barmy about Zoflora?

I am sick of buying clothes from Vinted/Depop that absolutely reek of it. Not much fun for those of us with allergies/sensitive skin/our own much nicer perfumes.

Can I please have a tip about how to get this stinky chemical crap out of clothes? It doesn't wash out. I've tried a capful of vinegar in the wash, line-drying etc.

WhiteArsenic · 21/08/2023 18:24

On a lighter note, rapidly cooling hard boiled eggs under cold running water will stop them getting that nasty grey rim around the yolk.

marshmallowfinder · 21/08/2023 18:24

wagasallday · 21/08/2023 17:29

Unnecessary wasn’t it really

No, it was correct and a useful piece of advice. Nothing wrong with that.

Don’t believe words - believe actions

Red flags tend to be little - drop them quickly
