I’ve recently had my first baby and I was messaging a mate of mine yesterday. She knows I’ve been feeling a bit self conscious of my post baby body. Out of the blue she has started telling me she is selling lighter life shake type of products and listed all the things it could do for me and the weight loss benefits. she said ‘I think you would really benefit from it’ Aibu to be offended.

OP posts:
Nevermay · 17/08/2023 17:10

she is going to give the same spiel to everybody - avoid here until she has dropped the selling

MaggieBsBoat · 17/08/2023 17:11

YANBU. Tell her good luck with your MLM life. Mine‘s fine without it! Come back when you’ve recovered boss babe!

vincettenoir · 17/08/2023 17:12

Mmmm I don’t think you’re BU to be offended exactly. I wouldn’t welcome a friend making the same suggestion to me. But you should take into account that she’s probably peddling this gear to anyone she can so she shift the stuff. It’s nothing to do with you as an individual.

Weefreetiffany · 17/08/2023 17:12

Tell her you’re happy to be any shape but pyramid.

UsingChangeofName · 17/08/2023 17:13

YABU.
She'll be trying to sell it to everyone if she has got caught up in it. It isn't personal.

Though, if you've been telling her you are feeling a bit self conscious of my post baby body then that will feed into her mind that she will be helping you.

TeamsInterview · 17/08/2023 17:14

I wouldn't be offended, she'll be reeling out the same rubbish to any poor sod that crosses her path.

Tell her you’re happy to be any shape but pyramid.

I like what you did there

SaltyandSore · 17/08/2023 17:14

It wouldn’t matter if you hadn’t just had a baby she would still be giving you the hard sell.
it’s not about you, it’s about her parroting the sales pitch she’s been brainwashed into thinking will make her £££ in sales and turn her into a successful, rich businesswoman. She’s deluded.

Tell her you’re happy to be any shape but pyramid.

Yeah! I hated it when friends did pyramids and just had to wait it out, its a stage.
Don't be offended specifically it's a sales patter. Insensitive though.
I'd be tempted to say sorry not my thing right now.

panko · 17/08/2023 17:42

Block her

Skyisbluegrassisgreen · 17/08/2023 17:44

If you’ve been telling her you’re worried about your weight and she sells this stuff she’s seems to be just trying to help

DrManhattan · 17/08/2023 17:45

She will be trying to sell it to everyone so don't feel offended

She’ll be trying to sell to her friends that are perfectly happy with their bodies and who are already a healthy weight as well. It’s not personal.

DowntonCrabby · 17/08/2023 17:47

She won’t have meant offence, she’ll be fully entrenched in the MLM shite though and see you as an easy mark while you’re feeling vulnerable.

Id take

DowntonCrabby · 17/08/2023 17:48

I’d take a massive step back from her until she gets a grip, the pushiness and sales pitch will definitely ramp up.

towriteyoumustlive · 17/08/2023 17:52

YABU to feel offended, but YANBU to be concerned by this rather than offended.

This stuff (along with similar like Herbalife) are essentially pyramid selling schemes where they get people to lose weight (well DUH it is a starvation diet - it's impossible not to lose weight) then they get people to sell to their friends so they can get discounts themselves. The more people they get to sign up, the bigger the discount.

It means your friend is being taken for a gullible fool (as that's who these companies prey on!) so I'd perhaps keep an eye on her as someone is fleecing her!

Considering her question is AIBU to be offended, your comment makes no sense...

DinnaeFashYersel · 17/08/2023 18:01

It's nothing personal. She's going to offend every friend she has until she realises she's been suckered.

momonpurpose · 17/08/2023 18:03

Nevermay · 17/08/2023 17:10

she is going to give the same spiel to everybody - avoid here until she has dropped the selling

Absolutely this. Even if you had a super model body shed try to get you on board. She will be broke soon enough trying to make this nonsense work

IhearyouClemFandango · 17/08/2023 18:03

It isn’t personal, but a prime demonstration of how insidious and awful these schemes are. Playing the 5e vulnerable for whatever reason. Ignore her entirely.
