How long do you take in the shower?

Wondering now with awareness of how much energy costs/ the planet etc if it has impacted on how long you spend showering?

If I'm washing my hair (not every day) it takes me maybe 10 mins or just under. Non hair wash days take just a few minutes. Sometimes I'll shower twice on very hot days or days I'm more physically active or heavy period etc.

So say I take 12 mins in the shower every day on average across the week. Is that reasonable from a climate resources perspective, do you think?

I like how it can become an interesting experiment 😁
Let us know!

I think quite a few people underestimate their time in tbh

You could cut that down by co washing. That's when you stop using shampoo and use conditioner in your hair. You turn of the shower and put a little bit of conditioner in your roots and the ends of the hair as usual. Scrub your scalp with your fingertips for at least 5 minus - this is what cleans your hair and stops your roots from getting greasy. My hair now only needs a washing once a week or so - usually it was the second day and the roots were greasy.

I'm just out of the shower and I'm sorry but for those of you who have long hair and are double washing and conditioning in two minutes.. I do not understand

Literally don't get it

I was really quick.. it still took one minute of washing, two minute rinse.. one minute wash.. thorough two minute rinse

That's six minutes.. then a further two minutes of giving myself a good scrub from face to toes

Eight minutes in total and it was so stressful

I cannot work out how you're properly washing and rinsing your hair 🤷🏽‍♀️

Between 10-20 mins depending if it's a hair wash, legs shave etc or a quick body wash one

Bonfire23 · 15/08/2023 21:27

I timed today also and was 8 mins

Wash under arms, boobs, feet with soap and exfoliating gloves
Shaved under arms
Body scrub on legs and arms
Washed with shower oil from ears to feet - I literally wash everything including lathering up my ears, behind them, belly button, between toes etc
Rinsed

Judging from the 4 minute timer the Water board sent us, 2 mins 5 days a week.
More like 10 mins twice a week for hair, legs etc.
So, 30 mins, over 7 days. Just over 4 min average.
Oh, and it takes a count of 7 to get warm water.

MotherOfVizslas · 15/08/2023 21:49

Daily about 5 mins - pits, bits and face!

Washing hair, shaving legs etc on the weekend = about 20-30 mins

12 minutes ? It doesn’t take that long to double wash your hair, slap some conditioner on and shave your bits. You need to at least halve that.

And it's your business how exactly?

Years ago I tried co washing and the whole experience was appalling from the moment I stepped out of the shower and dried my hair until I caved and just washed it again properly Grin

Apart from that, I'm regularly active in high heat and humidity and my hair needs washing because I sweat.

There's no way I could just wash it once a week.

I shower twice a day. Morning takes about a minute or two, stand under water wash pits tits and bits and out. Evening could be same unless washing hair. Once a week I shower on a sat morning and it takes 20 or more mins as I am using purple shampoo and conditioner on my hair and shaving everywhere plus washing my tan off.

ZeldaFighter · 15/08/2023 22:59

Actually washing - about 5 minutes.
Standing mindlessly under the water like a zombie- 10-15 minutes.

Franticbutterfly · 16/08/2023 10:03

5-10 minutes every day.

KeepSmiling89 · 16/08/2023 14:36

@ZeldaFighter Hahahahah! Same here...I just like to stand under the hot water and ponder my deepest darkest thoughts. I've actually had some good work ideas and breakthroughs while standing in the shower.

Did a full curly hair wash last night. Including washing myself...took 18.5 minutes.

Tonight will be a bog standard wash - no hair washing or shaving. Just a wash 'n' go!

Glad I'm not alone. My DH caught me once and says I'm like the little green aliens in Toy Story - staring up at the shower going "the claw! The claw!" 🤣🤣🤣

Love this! 😂

Don't forget the arguments because you just come up with that perfect sassy and smart answer to the "know it all but nothing works" IT guy you talked with 6 hours prior😂

StrawberryWater · 16/08/2023 14:46

Pits and bits only takes me about a minute.

Hair wash takes about 10 minutes as I have very thick curly hair that takes forever to sort out.

Joystir59 · 01/09/2023 06:46

3-5 mins. I have very short hair that I only wash once or twice a week
