How long do you take in the shower?

Wondering now with awareness of how much energy costs/ the planet etc if it has impacted on how long you spend showering?

If I'm washing my hair (not every day) it takes me maybe 10 mins or just under. Non hair wash days take just a few minutes. Sometimes I'll shower twice on very hot days or days I'm more physically active or heavy period etc.

So say I take 12 mins in the shower every day on average across the week. Is that reasonable from a climate resources perspective, do you think?

How long do you spend showering?

As long as it takes and when I’m ready. I don’t count.

smilesup · 14/08/2023 07:30

I just timed myself 3.5 minutes including hair wash and conditioner. I always get the shampoo ready iny hand.

Gensola · 14/08/2023 07:31

3-5 mins - DH always amazed and asks how I’m so quick as he stands there for ages despite the fact that I have waist length hair to wash and he is bald!

Is stopping and starting efficient for boilers though?

I have an electric hot water service, no idea how it works.

As long as I want/need and can get away with ie not be late for work or the hot water running out.

There's enough men on this board hardly showering at all that I'm sure it all evens out 😂

This is a very good point!

User15387500 · 14/08/2023 07:34

I'm usually about 3 or 4 minutes, shortish hair, I always was very quick even when we were on economy 7 and it was about 7p a unit.

Aprilx · 14/08/2023 07:35

I think about five minutes if including hair wash and conditioning. Twelve minutes seems like a very long time, although truthfully I have never timed it. Maybe I will tomorrow.

This made me laugh 😁

Honestly have no idea how people wash and condition hair in 5 mins!

I do have long thick hair, but so do other posting who take 5 mins...

You’re doing what you need to do and then getting out. If that’s how long it takes, how can it be unreasonable?

User15387500 · 14/08/2023 07:44

I don't condition my hair as it goes lank if I do so that must save time

yellowsmileyface · 14/08/2023 07:47

I'd guess about 5 minutes if it's just a body wash, 12 if I'm washing my hair. Might have to try timing myself, could well be longer!

I don't shave in the shower as trying to do it quickly results in many cuts. I get a bowl of warm water and shave out of the shower so I can take my time with it.

mondaytosunday · 14/08/2023 07:47

Id say ten. But if I'm not going out I might not shower at all on occasion. Started in lockdown so no ow I take about five showers a week. My shower also takes a minUte to warm up.

AuntieMarys · 14/08/2023 07:51

5 minutes if washing hair. Otherwise 2. And I'm 6 feet tall..there's a lot of me to wash

Bonfire23 · 14/08/2023 07:53

About 5 mins, no hair wash or shaving legs
I wash my hair leaning over the bath (because I style it upside down) and only shave my legs in the bath (yes I know it's weird)

megletthesecond · 14/08/2023 07:56

6/7 minutes.
I have a 5 min egg timer and can't quite manage it in that time but I'm not far over.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 14/08/2023 07:56

Five minutes max, including a hair wash and shaving legs, pits and bits.

I'm autistic and find showers a real source of sensory overload so I make sure I'm in and out as fast as possible!

flumposie · 14/08/2023 07:59

About 5 minutes. Have a timer . Have short, fine hair so never an issue. Daughter takes a bit longer.

grass321 · 14/08/2023 08:25

Having timed it, just under 3 minutes (including applying shampoo and conditioner). It felt quite leisurely but clearly not...

StarlightLady · 14/08/2023 08:28

If l’m honest, far too long. It’s about the ungreenest thing l do.

Wow!

It takes me 3 mins to shampoo and rinse my hair I reckon, before I even put in the conditioner Grin

And then I like to let the conditioner soak in for two or three minutes or it basically doesn't do anything on my hair - I have wavy unruly hair and it is a mad ball of knots to comb without being thoroughly conditioned.

Kudos to your sub 3 min incl hairwashing!

3 minutes, if that

Tiddlywinks63 · 14/08/2023 08:43

Probably 3-5 minutes max?
I can shower, wash my hair, dress and dry my hair in 20 minutes without rushing.

lovewoola · 14/08/2023 08:43

If not washing hair - 4 mins.
Washing hair - 15/20 (lots of hair)

Maybe leave in conditioners? Directions on wash out ones usually say like 5 min?
