How long do you take in the shower?

Wondering now with awareness of how much energy costs/ the planet etc if it has impacted on how long you spend showering?

If I'm washing my hair (not every day) it takes me maybe 10 mins or just under. Non hair wash days take just a few minutes. Sometimes I'll shower twice on very hot days or days I'm more physically active or heavy period etc.

So say I take 12 mins in the shower every day on average across the week. Is that reasonable from a climate resources perspective, do you think?

How long do you spend showering?

Like a seal rising from the sea, I emerge smooth, fat a glossy.
😂 Love it!

@Cakesandbabes you sound like my kind of shower person 😂 it's like therapy isn't it?!

Yeah like washing off the week etc. It's absolute great for Friday eve if we are not out. Just scrub the week off, relax and wnjoy the evening in post shower euphoria.
Found my shower spirit!

Cupcakekiller · 14/08/2023 17:36

6 days a week- 5 mins (I time myself). One day a week I do a full body shave (I'm very hairy!) and wash and condition my hair- probably about 30 mins.

Henryhover · 14/08/2023 17:36

We are on a water meter, I aim for no longer than 5 minutes that's including washing my hair twice and conditioner. Shaving will be done on days I don't wash my hair

Sparklehead · 14/08/2023 18:09

I really don’t like showering (I realise I’m probably in the minority) and so get it over with as quickly as possible. I shower daily, and take 3 minutes for a hair wash (short hair), body wash, rinse off and then squeegee the shower door. Done and dusted!

YoongiMarryMe · 14/08/2023 18:10

10 minutes. I’m disabled so it’s slow going.

I have a shower seat which I need obviously but it’s a temptation just to sit and relax and stare into space!

19lottie82 · 14/08/2023 18:21

Hmm I’m not sure….. 5/6 minutes? I don’t faff about that’s for sure.

Wash face, wash hair, put on conditioner, shower gel on a puff thing, all over scrub, give my best bits a wash with water, rinse of conditioner. Done.

19lottie82 · 14/08/2023 18:22

PS I’m in Scotland so no water meter

BadLad · 14/08/2023 18:24

About ten minutes in the morning and the same in the evening, although the shower is not running while I scrub myself, rub the shampoo in and shave (shaving in the middle of the shower rather than before it has been a game changer for me).

But in the evening it’s then into the bath for a soak, so I’m quite heavy on water usage I suppose,

MyMachineAndMe · 14/08/2023 18:35

I shower every few days, incl. washing my hair, and it takes about ten minutes. I use the same towel several times before putting to wash on a 30°C cycle along with whatever else is in the machine at the time.

Forgoodnesssakewhatnow · 14/08/2023 18:37

Under 2 mins but I don’t wash my hair. (Don’t go mad mumsnet, it’s fine.)

cardibach · 14/08/2023 18:39

cruffinsmuffin · 14/08/2023 17:31

@cardibach

Oh god 😂 so double shampoo, conditioner on + a mask on too. Sometimes I'll have used a pre treatment as well which adds an extra step in. I then exfoliate everywhere with a brush, then exfoliate everywhere with a scrub. Then I use a shower oil, then a body wash. After that it's shave city (doing zappy hair removal so requires a fresh shave) for everything between my toes to my tits. Post shave (which does take a while to be thorough!) I'll then rinse out the hair a few times and voila. Like a seal rising from the sea, I emerge smooth, fat a glossy.

It's an amazing feeling tbh. I might take a bit longer with singing along to the music too! Luckily no complaints from anyone in a 5 mile radius about my singing. It's a zone of peace and steam when I have a long shower.

Normal showers just involve the hair wash without treatments, body wash no oil and no exfoliation / shaving!

I seriously could not be arsed. If I do a face mask, I relax and meditate when it’s on. Nobody needs two kinds of exfoliation, or double hair washing.
Shaving is personal taste I guess.

cruffinsmuffin · 14/08/2023 18:48

@cardibach

I definitely need two types of exfoliation (keeps my strawberry skin away!) and double hair washing helps me combat the over produced oil from some meds 😊 each to their own though - I won't even tell you about my face mask routine if this is your thoughts on the shower one 😂 😂

Cakesandbabes · 14/08/2023 18:55

@cruffinsmuffin o ypu knwo hat causea yours? I didn't have strawberry skin until I moved to NW England! I wondered if it's the water

I am also NW based!! Not a clue but the dr said it was just classic keeatosis pilaris so lord knows what that means 😂 I would love to blame the water but I think it's just my skin? Upper thighs and upper arms, horrendous. Got it under control now (just!)

Cakesandbabes · 14/08/2023 19:12

I have it on lower arms, sometimes, but rarely on upper.

Let's blame the water!

ExhaustedMuch · 14/08/2023 19:23

Probably about 15 minutes. No idea how anybody could wash their hair and shave etc. in under that.

hippygirllucky · 14/08/2023 19:41

Probably less than 2-3 mins if not washing hair. If washing hair max 4-5 mins. Water isn't on the whole time either, it's 1. Water on and body wet, water off 2. Cover in soap 3. Water on and rinse soap off. Same thing with hair, just including wetting hair during steps 1 and 3. And adding and extra stop and wash for conditioner.

19 month old will not allow longer.

roundtable · 14/08/2023 20:14

I have 3c hair. I have to comb through my hair with conditioner every day regardless. It can take a long time eeking out the knots. Dh knows not to comment on my showering time. I'm not pissing about in there!

PTSDBarbiegirl · 14/08/2023 20:19

Under 2 minutes. Don't enjoy the shower but exfoliate, wash & condition v long hair, longer if I'm doing a deep hair treatment.

BrightGreenMoonBuggy · 14/08/2023 20:24

Routinely 10 - 20 mins depending on if I wash my hair but now I’m going to time myself and try to hurry up as everyone else is so quick!

Qilin · 14/08/2023 23:23

Shower each morning and take a few minutes.
Get in, wet hair, wash with shampoo bar, rinse, rub over conditioner bar. Whilst that's left for a bit I use soap to wash the rest of my body. Then rinse the conditioner. Last few moments I turn the temp, down a bit and finish with a little cool down. If I need to shave legs it adds a couple of extra minutes.

I've never been someone who takes ages in a shower.

Qilin · 14/08/2023 23:25

If it's very warm and sticky, or I'm felling a bit sweaty/grubby I will show again, but won't do my hair again. Depending on reason for shower it may get wet though, otherwise with a shower cap. That's a very quick coolish wash general.

Ambi · 14/08/2023 23:27

Similar to others, 3-4 mins normally. Maybe 6-7 mins when washing hair and shaving legs.

KeepSmiling89 · 15/08/2023 10:11

KeepSmiling89 · 14/08/2023 14:29

I have curly hair so my hair wash days take about 15-20 minutes in total (twice a week...maybe 3 times if I've been swimming or got REALLY sweaty on a run and need to wash again)
Bog standard wash - about 5 minutes...5-10 minutes if I'm shaving my legs.

Never actually timed myself though so will time myself on tonight's bog standard wash (shaving legs included) then again tomorrow as it's hair washing day.

Ok, so I timed my shower last night. Washing my face, body and shaving my pits and legs (it's been a while since I've shaved my legs and I need a new razor so took longer than expected)...took 12 minutes in total. Wore a shower cap as I wasn't washing my hair.
Going to time myself again tonight - going paddle boarding after work so will be a full curly hair wash day...anticipating it'll take about 15 minutes. Let's see!
