No idea what just happened I just woke up 5 minutes ago heard a noise and the room shook. It wasn’t me shaking but like I could feel the room and bed shake for about 10/20 seconds. Definitely wasn’t imagining it either!any one awake I’m scared

It could have been a very mild earthquake. That happened to my bed once and later on it was reported that there had been an earth tremor.

YukoandHiro · 11/08/2023 03:25

An earthquake. Where are you?

This is what happened when I felt the Manchester earthquake in around 2003 ish. It woke me up and I couldn't work out if I had a really bad dream or if a car had hit the house.

I went back to bed and then heard it on the news the next morning.

Povx · 11/08/2023 03:29

Thank you, that really frightened me as it woke me up! I’m in Yorkshire, UK

I have actually just typed in when was the last earth quake UK and there was a question on top of google it said ‘did you just feel shaking?’ Yes, no or unsure. I pressed Yes and it said ‘thank you for your input, please check back soon for more information’ or something like that so it must have been

I've been woken that way twice and both times it was a minor earthquake.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/08/2023 03:32

My gran felt one in Wales once.

I never feel them, even though I've lived in an earthquake zone. I'm just not sensitive to them.

Theforeverhome · 11/08/2023 04:03

Unusually, I woke up around the same time and I’m on the border of North Yorkshire. I wonder if it was the same thing that woke me up?

Cant get back to sleep now 🤨

Caprisunny · 11/08/2023 04:10

might be confirmation bias but West Yorkshire here woke around the same time. Also can’t sleep.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/08/2023 04:14

I know it's not funny but I have a mental image of every MNer in Yorkshire bolt upright staring into the abyss.

Same here 😆, glad in down south.

CurrentHun · 11/08/2023 04:24

I once had that in London. So wierd. Thought I must have dreamed it then I read about it on news next day. You’ll be ok, OP. Definitely it’s safe to go back to sleep.
This is why fracking is such a terrible idea. Let’s not add any more pressure to the natural movement that’s happening all the time.

BingoBastards · 11/08/2023 04:30

I once had that South, I was up reading and my lamp suddenly did a slow wobble back and forth like a wiggly dance so I just looked at it and went back to my book. I thought I'd gone cross eyed for a sec. Next day I was told there was an earthquake.

Glad you're reassured OP!

Dp and the kids definitely did not.

Just me and the dogs. Maybe there’s a Venn diagram to be made out of people in Yorkshire, wether they MN and if they randomly got woken up around the same time 😂😂

Greenpolkadot · 11/08/2023 04:44

Try Sky News or BBC.
We had one a few years ago. I thought I'd had a visitation if some sort .The wardrobe doors shook .

EmmaEmerald · 11/08/2023 05:05

Nothing on Twitter

exploding head syndrome? I have that and the first few times, I asked neighbours in the morning "what happened"! I thought there'd been a incident somewhere local.

Leftittothelastminute · 11/08/2023 05:20

Sounds like an earthquake- my house shook a few years ago and I actually went outside to see if anyone had driven into it! It's definitely a strange feeling!

As a child I was staying overnight in DGM little Welsh cottage and in the morning she asked me if I’d felt anything in the early hours. She said the cottage shook and she thought it had been hit by a lorry or something, that was an earthquake.

MrsTerryPratchett · 11/08/2023 05:42

I wonder if it was the same one @IRecogniseTheLocationInThePicture

None listed for today, yet.

HoppingPavlova · 11/08/2023 07:01

Probably a tremor. I was once 55 miles from a place that had a scale 6 earthquake (killed 13 people and injured over 150) and that was really weird. The floor and walls of the room of the house I was in literally warped in and out in waves, it was like what I imagine being on acid would be like as I just couldn’t comprehend what I was seeing and it was not ‘simple’ to get to the front door to get out of the house. Really hard to explain but it felt a bit like running through treacle/being pushed back and forward somewhat on the straight route to the front door. So thinking yours may be a tremor?

WubbaWing · 11/08/2023 07:04

A very small earthquake woke me up once in Manchester. The wardrobe and bed shook.

Most bizarre feeling ever an dot wa sonly a tiny one. Can't imagine how scary a bit one must be.

WhatWhereWhenHowWhy · 11/08/2023 07:16

West Yorkshire here - didn't wake up or feel anything!!

babysharkdoodoodedoodedoo · 11/08/2023 07:18

I live in an earthquake zone and have started to sleep through them now - but I know when there is one because I’ll always have a dream about shaking. The last dream was that I was on a boat during a storm and I woke up knowing there’d been an earthquake!

Povx · 11/08/2023 11:40

Yeah I can’t anything online about there being one. I wonder what it was!

@MrsTerryPratchett I also wondered that. But thank you for triggering a lovely little memory of my DGM. 😊

Pontiouspilate · 11/08/2023 12:42

It’s in your head. I sometimes have it too - wake up hearing a massive sound/ crash. But nope it’s my head
