Who was unreasonable - kicking my dog.

I have a big dog -often people become quite - well medium sized technically scared of her just by the way she looks.
she is however not reactive and very friendly !
she is always 100 percent on lead unless is in an designated enclosed dog area.

on our way to the park yesterday, we crossed a road and had to walk down the pavement where there is a few shops and a coffee shop. it wasn’t a wide pavement, I also had 2 kids with me. My dog loves other dogs but I do understand why many around here don’t like their dog interacting with mine so I always ensure she only goes over ( on lead ) if the owner says it’s ok.
as we were walking past the coffee shop I did not see that a women who was say on the outside table has a dog under the table with no lead on. As we went to past the table the dog reacted to my dog and leaped out from under the table yapping. Tbh I knew my dog wouldn’t react And I had her on lead and there was no where else for me to go other than in to the main road That I just went to carry on walking. Immediately though the women picked up her dog in a panic and boots my dog with quite some force.
I was a bit taken back to be honest and said what did she think she was doing, she said my dog shouldn’t be near hers.

who was unreasonable here ?!

I would have kicked her in the shin 😡 she should have had that yapping thing on a lead

LittleAlexHornn · 10/08/2023 22:19

Sounds like she panicked?

Tinkerbyebye · 10/08/2023 22:19

The other woman not you

TregunaMekoides · 10/08/2023 22:20

Anyone out in a public place like a cafe or a park without their dog on a lead is unreasonable IMO, and that's before the assaulting of your dog!

Hope she steps on a plug.

DisquietintheRanks · 10/08/2023 22:20

She was unreasonable. Who preemptively kicks dogs?

Cloudsandrainnotsunandsand · 10/08/2023 22:21

Lego...
She was a cow..

OrigamiOwls · 10/08/2023 22:21

Her dog was off the lead, she was completely in the wrong.

JustJoinedRightNow · 10/08/2023 22:21

Imagine what she does to her own dog at home if she's happy to kick a stranger's dog in public. Disgusting.

OP you were not bu.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 10/08/2023 22:21

What?! Unless your dog tore it limb from limb (which doesn't sound like it happened) there is no way she should've kicked your dog. She was BVVVU.

VWT5 · 10/08/2023 22:21

The Council might have a part to play - if they permitted seating on a narrow pavement area?

Blossomtoes · 10/08/2023 22:22

There’s a special corner of hell reserved for people who kick dogs.

mysavinggrace123 · 10/08/2023 22:22

She no way should have kicked your dog, that's terrible.

What's the breed of your dog? As I know the XL bully types can really scare people.

3dogsandarabbit · 10/08/2023 22:23

Your poor dog - Did it yelp in pain?

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:23

we already struggle at dog parks with her because 99 percent of people here have smaller breeds and they all get really scared about mine 🤣 poor thing has a super bad rep just because of her breed I think. I have accepted that and we tend to respect their distance but in this case I just didn’t have the time or room to get her away.

YANBU
hope your dog is ok

if someone booted my beautifully behaved on a lead as well as off dog for those reasons I would have been less magnanimous than you

MiniCooperLover · 10/08/2023 22:24

Please tell me you said a bit more than that to her ??!? 🙈😱

Helpmepleaseimbusy · 10/08/2023 22:24

Other woman was a prick. She shouldn't be sitting anywhere near where another dog may pass if her dog is reactive. If not anything other than to keep her dog safe because if her dog reacts to a dog that is much bigger and that dog then reacts badly, her dog is toast.
She is stupid.

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:25

@mysavinggrace123 no, she’s a Siberian husky.
i am always terrified of her being blamed after an incident Years ago in a park with a much smaller dog. That I do try to keep my distance at all times.
we live in a ridiculously dog friendly area but most are handbags sized dogs.

She was very unreasonable. She didn't have control of her own dog, which is bad enough when it's on a busy pavement, but then she kicked your dog who was doing nothing except being there. Outrageous behaviour and I would have been furious.

Pickledpigeon · 10/08/2023 22:27

The woman with the little dog was in the wrong. Fancy kicking your dog with no provocation, the stupid cow and your poor dog.

Bellyblueboy · 10/08/2023 22:27

What a stupid and cruel lady. I hope your dog is okay.

to be honest I would have contacted the police / surely an unprovoked attack on an animal is against the law.

I cannot abide any form of animal cruelty

EmilyBrontesGhost · 10/08/2023 22:28

OMG that is shocking.

Horrible woman, I hope your dog is okay x

Bellyblueboy · 10/08/2023 22:29

LittleAlexHornn · 10/08/2023 22:19

Sounds like she panicked?

That’s no excuse to kick someone’s pet.

LittleAlexHornn · 10/08/2023 22:30

Bellyblueboy · 10/08/2023 22:29

That’s no excuse to kick someone’s pet.

I didn't say it was.

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:31

I should have said more but because she is the bigger dog I always do get worried that she gets the instant blame.
some years ago we were in a park by a water fountain that has dog bowls down and a tiny dog like an xxs mini dog came flying over ( my dog was on a lead ) and reacted in pure reactive mode and attached it self to my dogs neck !
now luckily she isn’t reactive because honestly I was afraid my dog would have killed it in once defence move but it just wouldn’t let go of her neck and the owner was ages away by the time the owner got to them, my dog had almost swung this dog half a mile by shaking it rapidly off and my dog got the blame.
so since then I have been very cautious about her being anywhere near little dogs and we have not had another incident.
I just did not see this one as it was under the table.
