Who was unreasonable - kicking my dog.

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:16

I have a big dog -often people become quite - well medium sized technically scared of her just by the way she looks.
she is however not reactive and very friendly !
she is always 100 percent on lead unless is in an designated enclosed dog area.

on our way to the park yesterday, we crossed a road and had to walk down the pavement where there is a few shops and a coffee shop. it wasn’t a wide pavement, I also had 2 kids with me. My dog loves other dogs but I do understand why many around here don’t like their dog interacting with mine so I always ensure she only goes over ( on lead ) if the owner says it’s ok.
as we were walking past the coffee shop I did not see that a women who was say on the outside table has a dog under the table with no lead on. As we went to past the table the dog reacted to my dog and leaped out from under the table yapping. Tbh I knew my dog wouldn’t react And I had her on lead and there was no where else for me to go other than in to the main road That I just went to carry on walking. Immediately though the women picked up her dog in a panic and boots my dog with quite some force.
I was a bit taken back to be honest and said what did she think she was doing, she said my dog shouldn’t be near hers.

who was unreasonable here ?!

You should have kicked her back and said oh sorry I got a fright ! IMO I’m more scared of small dogs than I am yours, I have a Lhasa apso and a few friends have one too and I’ve never ever met a nice one there loud and nippy and I would never trust them off a lead

MercurialMargot · 10/08/2023 23:59

I have had an absolutely horrendous experience with a husky and am afraid I subscribe to the belief that they aren't fully domesticated but your posts give me hope and the bacon sarnie story has me absolutely creased!

It sounds like you've got her totally under control and therefore YANBU

Amybelle88 · 11/08/2023 00:16

Ducking witch! I'd have booted her!

Cocomelon2023 · 11/08/2023 00:18

@MercurialMargot I was mortified 🤣 we had not long had her at the time and I didn’t see the sandwich and the poor man was like excuse me 😂🙈 luckily men tend to like her and so he found it funny but I 100 percent took responsibility for it !

I would be furious beyond words with the other woman I would be asking around for CCTV and report her.
I've got terriers, ones terrible with most other dogs because she's been attacked more than once (on lead by off lead dog) the other thinks everyone is a friend she's not met yet!
I tend to shout over (in a polite way) to tell ppl that ones scared and shouty and the other just wants to be friends.
I would never kick someone else's dog unless my dogs were in danger, I was in danger, another person/child was in danger.

SheRaaaaa · 11/08/2023 00:45

Fist would probably have touched skin if that were me.

And I'd have loudly shamed her for kicking the dog so everyone knew why too.

almostoverthehill · 11/08/2023 01:22

Bitch I would have kicked her! Huskies are lovely, everyone I have met has been so friendly and vocal x

JMSA · 11/08/2023 02:31

JudgeAnderson · 10/08/2023 22:33

That woman needs a boot up her arse! Nasty bitch.

And I'm the one to do it!
My eyebrows nearly shot through the roof reading the OP. She's a disgrace.
OP, really hope your poor dog is ok and that she has been thoroughly spoilt since Flowers

absentseizure · 11/08/2023 04:39

Your dog sounds lovely and I'm so sorry some moron kicked him. Especially a fellow dog lover.

My dog is a drama Queen. She once was attacked by a big dog and now when she sees another big dog she will run away or literally actually scream. I didn't know dogs could scream. Big dog owners will then feel terrible and apologise to me! I make a point to laugh and say "no need, my dog is being silly, I'm the one who's sorry" and then if appropriate meet the dog and make a fuss of them to try and show my dog that it's ok.

That stupid kicking lady is reinforcing her dogs reactions and defences by getting involved like that. She's a moron.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 11/08/2023 05:17

So she was sitting in a cafe with an offlead or otherwise unrestricted dog, which was out of her sight, close enough to a walkway to be startled by people passing and close enough to a road for her dog to have run into it before she could have stopped it? This was an accident waiting to happen before you even came on the scene. I'm sorry your dog bore the brunt of her lack of care.

Itsalwayssunny25 · 11/08/2023 05:32

Your poor dog! What an awful thing to do, you were not in the wrong here. I have a lovely German shepherd who is also very much judged despite the fact he's very friendly so I know exactly how you feel.

GoodChat · 11/08/2023 05:40

People like her are literally the reason dogs like yours can react aggressively (not that your dog did - he sounds brilliant)

She's an absolute arsehole. She needs reporting, although I can't imagine that any authority would be able to track her down.

Oldsu · 11/08/2023 06:20

Dibbydoos · 10/08/2023 22:56

I would have smacked her one. Stupid bitch. Just like that idiot that got Marshall and Millions killed.

I hope your dog is OK. Bless her.

I don't get why people who have zero control of their dog have then off lead. It's irresponsible!

She should be prosecuted.

@Dibbydoos I have photo stills from the video about that incident I watched the video once and was sick, however my nephew who is a senior Police Officer in Australia watched with the sound on and then frame by frame and he is in no doubt about what happened and who was to blame.

She was sat on a main road with her dog not on a lead. And then she assaulted your dog. Obviously she was in the wrong.

BitOutOfPractice · 11/08/2023 06:47

i am no fan of dogs. I am no fan of dogs being as ubiquitous as they seem to be nowadays. But bloody hell that other woman was so far out of order. It’s outrageous to hurt a dog like that. Completely unprovoked. I’m amazed you didn’t kick her back because that would’ve been justified I think. I’m shocked. Think of what could’ve happened if your dog hadn’t been so well behaved. Not just to the dogs but I have visions of small kids being knocked into the road or whatever.

its her, and owners Like her, and dogs like hers, that have made me so fed up with dogs everywhere.

hope your dog is ok.

Beargrumps22 · 11/08/2023 06:53

firstly you never ever kick an animal
secondly if she was sat in a coffee shop or outside dog should have been on a lead especially as it was on a public pavement
thirdly you should not have been made to put yourself at risk by walking in the road especially too as you had kids with you
fourthly id have her for assault

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:31

I should have said more but because she is the bigger dog I always do get worried that she gets the instant blame.
some years ago we were in a park by a water fountain that has dog bowls down and a tiny dog like an xxs mini dog came flying over ( my dog was on a lead ) and reacted in pure reactive mode and attached it self to my dogs neck !
now luckily she isn’t reactive because honestly I was afraid my dog would have killed it in once defence move but it just wouldn’t let go of her neck and the owner was ages away by the time the owner got to them, my dog had almost swung this dog half a mile by shaking it rapidly off and my dog got the blame.
so since then I have been very cautious about her being anywhere near little dogs and we have not had another incident.
I just did not see this one as it was under the table.

I work with dogs & can tell you that the smaller ones are the ones to watch. People who own small dogs are sometimes ignorant of the impact when they attack. And because they're small dogs they aren't seen as a threat. I've only ever been bitten (twice) by little dogs. a Shihtzu & Maltese (in 13 years).

She said husky

GoodChat · 11/08/2023 07:17

@Devilinthedeet sorry saw your post correcting yourself Blush

Cocomelon2023 · 11/08/2023 10:45

@Devilinthedeet she has never given me any indication she can not be walked where their are pedestrians. It wasn’t a packed walkway but we do sort of have to get to parks / fields etc and use public pavements to do so.
she has never in all the years I’ve had her responded to a person or a dog, so unsure why she can’t walk places.
