Who was unreasonable - kicking my dog.

I have a big dog -often people become quite - well medium sized technically scared of her just by the way she looks.
she is however not reactive and very friendly !
she is always 100 percent on lead unless is in an designated enclosed dog area.

on our way to the park yesterday, we crossed a road and had to walk down the pavement where there is a few shops and a coffee shop. it wasn’t a wide pavement, I also had 2 kids with me. My dog loves other dogs but I do understand why many around here don’t like their dog interacting with mine so I always ensure she only goes over ( on lead ) if the owner says it’s ok.
as we were walking past the coffee shop I did not see that a women who was say on the outside table has a dog under the table with no lead on. As we went to past the table the dog reacted to my dog and leaped out from under the table yapping. Tbh I knew my dog wouldn’t react And I had her on lead and there was no where else for me to go other than in to the main road That I just went to carry on walking. Immediately though the women picked up her dog in a panic and boots my dog with quite some force.
I was a bit taken back to be honest and said what did she think she was doing, she said my dog shouldn’t be near hers.

who was unreasonable here ?!

I'm in the same position as you OP with my dog. I would have gone ballistic at her. Her dog was not on lead, her problem.
We had a man stamp on our dog, he didn't have a dog, I was moving her across a walkway, she thought we were sitting down and laid down and I was getting her to move but clearly not quickly enough for Mr Billy Bigbollocks. Everyone in the vicinity( complete strangers) saw it and went ballistic at him for me. She had yelped and tried to get on my lap. She is 46kg!!! He retreated very quickly.

If my dog had reacted, he would have been shouting 'dangerous dog', no doubt ..Twat! She got extra cuddles from the people who defended her who then came to check she was OK. There are nice people who aren't antidog!

JudgeAnderson · 10/08/2023 22:33

That woman needs a boot up her arse! Nasty bitch.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 10/08/2023 22:34

Your dog sounds absolutely impeccably behaved!

That woman is lucky your dog didn't bite her in shock and fear at being attacked, and that you didn't smack her in the nose! She's going to do that to the wrong dog and person someday.

She's also lucky her dog didn't run in the road! She sounds a complete twat tbh.

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:34

@drinkuptheezider terrible ! I have to admit the issue we do have with mine is she is ridiculously friendly 🤣 but I do always have her on the lead and wouldn’t let her approach anyone who looks terrified of her because she would say hello to anyone 😂

@GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut she lives with 2 disabled children and is apart of the local hospital trust. She is very timid but very friendly.
she doesn’t even bark back at a dog, but she had her downfalls 🤣 like food !

Firstly no lead, = owner reasonable for her escapee.

That said when big dogs or small dogs run at me and if it's just me, I usually just stand there and look at them, as usually if I was to run or make sudden movements you never know how they will react.

They don't have to look terrified to not want your dog to approach them

But no, she shouldn't have kicked your dog . Maybe call the rspca

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:38

I’m also not claiming my dog is 100 percent the perfect dog by the way. We once walked past a man who had a bacon sandwich on his table and she swiped it as I walked past with her and I was absolutely horrified !
i mean the man was ok 🤣🤣🤣 but I made sure I went in to replace it and then re worked on training !

Mine is extremely friendly to people, she has never been aggressive to other dogs but is very rough and plays like she is mauling, rather than inviting trouble she has playtime with her doggy pals and I limit other interactions. Like yours, I hire fields for offlead fun.

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:40

@painochocolate what I mean by that is because her breed she either gets people scared or the opposite and people love her. So if Someone actively speaks to her or talks to her then I allow it.
if someone ignores her but doesn’t look scared I don’t stop her walking we walk past the person but If someone looks actively terrified I make a point of holding her back and allowing them across.

What a bitch!

Please can we have a photo? Love siberian huskies 🙃

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:41

@drinkuptheezider they sound very similar. We try to meet up once a fortnight in a enclosed field with some other huskies and German shepherds.

Definitely similar

GameOverBoys · 10/08/2023 22:45

Is it the dogs that react to yours or the owners?

Cocomelon2023 · 10/08/2023 22:47

@GameOverBoys little dogs tend to bark at her not sure why !
some owners are fine with her but other owners tend to want me to stay well clear even if the dogs are playing with other dogs.

I totally get this, I have very recently acquired a very big but very scared dog. He's been mistreated most of his life but absolutely loves being part of our family (only girls) and is no threat to anyone except dogs that he perceives to be threat to us. I am normally v good at keeping him away from barky dogs but if one surprises him he responds by biting them. I'm so worried he'll be blamed for their aggression, have considered a muzzle but he's 13 and is terrified of everything

Yellowflower47 · 10/08/2023 22:55

She was. Her dog wasn’t on lead in a public place. Her dog is also clearly reactive. Her dog could have injured yours, or you, or one of your children.

Who on earth sits with their dog off lead outside of a coffee shop? It’s the school holidays and her dog could easily go for any innocent child walking down the road.

LimitIsUp · 10/08/2023 22:55

Unfortunately I could not have contained myself in this scenario and it would have escalated. That woman is playing a dangerous game, not everyone is a calm when provoked as you

Dibbydoos · 10/08/2023 22:56

I would have smacked her one. Stupid bitch. Just like that idiot that got Marshall and Millions killed.

I hope your dog is OK. Bless her.

I don't get why people who have zero control of their dog have then off lead. It's irresponsible!

She should be prosecuted.

L3ThirtySeven · 10/08/2023 22:59

Your poor dog. I can’t stand dog owners that think their tiny dog shouldn’t be on a lead, they can still be a menace. She had no reason to kick your dog at all. I’d be minded to report her to the RSPCA.

OhwhyOY · 10/08/2023 23:03

Argh so many little dogs have an attitude problem and poor owners that enable it! A few years ago our large dog was attacked in long grass (so we didn't see the other dog coming) by a nasty little terrier that repeatedly bit her on the tummy and legs, and almost severed an artery. The vet said she was lucky to survive and had one of the bites been a millimetre to the left she would have bled to death very quickly. The terrier's owner said he was scared and 'was too little to do any lasting damage to that great big thing' despite blood everywhere 😒Your dog sounds great - bacon sandwich incident included!

golddustwomen · 10/08/2023 23:04

This has pissed me off no end! What a fucking prick!

Lookingatthesunset · 10/08/2023 23:06

I do hope she develops piles and shits pineapples! Hateful bitch doing that to an innocent dog!!

I don't have a dog (am a cat person) but I would have lost the plot to see someone kick one!

Hope DDog is ok xx Horrible thing to happen.

MouseMinge · 10/08/2023 23:45

I'd have been so tempted to kick her back but therein lies madness. What an awful woman although what's getting close to awful is that 2% of posters have voted that you are being unreasonable! You are 100% totally and utterly NBU. Your dog sounds lovely. The food thing must be a pain but at least it's actual food. My greyhound nephew has eaten teabags and a whole bag of flour because he is a total mentalist when it comes to food or food like "ingredients".
