After watching the programme about the great extinction 250 million years ago it's made me think this planet will be far better without us and the sooner we become extinct the better.

Because Europe has almost no wildlife left. No rainforest, no exotic animals, we've already trashed the continent, may as well stay here now.

You would want to keep largely younger people from an economical perspective (healthy/cheaper) though?

What on earth are you on about?

Daftasabroom · 11/08/2023 08:23

But leave Europe?

Fuck sake!

Biodiversity!

I take it seriously enough to have not had children. Why can you only see things from a personal point of view and not from an objective one?

Because I think people just write empty words but when it comes down to it they prioritise themselves as everyone else does. Some criticise that prioritising, I just think it’s normal. Who really wants to die for the planet?

Although I do have more time for those who choose not to have dc due to it. I’d probably not care so much about humans if I didn’t have dc inheriting what’s up next. I care very much about them.

JudgeAnderson · 11/08/2023 08:37

Tbf Europe's ecosystem would recover and evolve just fine without humans.

Who wants to die at all? Not many people, but it’s inevitable, we don’t have a choice and if the human species is going to end one day, as it will do, then I’m more than happy for that to be sooner rather than later in order to give the planet a chance. I don’t understand why people take it so personally, no one is suggesting everyone tops themselves this weekend, I think/hope the planet will take care of it itself if we don’t destroy ourselves first with nuclear war etc.

Sooner - how soon? After you’re gone already or is as soon as possible good?

Ylvamoon · 11/08/2023 08:42

Can I ask those who believe that annihilation or population reduction is good for the planet how you feel about terrorist attacks, genocide, and war?

It's about the availability of resources, plain and simple. So naturally we need to reduce or eliminate our competitors. We've done it with bears and wolves and of course our fellow humans throughout history.

And if you look at this thread we are talking as 'WE' in terms of continents...
It's a chilling prospect.

dramoy · 11/08/2023 08:42

What on earth are you on about?

I think it's clearer than your posts 🤷🏻‍♀️

I disagree with your logic that we should "keep" Europe because we have already destroyed the biodiversity & there aren't rhinos in Bristol.

Europe has an ageing population, not great from an economic perspective so I would argue if we are talking about who to "keep" the younger, healthier ones are better & those will be largely outside of Europe.

Fucking educate yourselves people!

the irony 🤣

dramoy · 11/08/2023 08:44

Lol, ok, great chat, I can see you’ve put a lot of thought and consideration into your argument.

I think my emoji was putting in just as much thought as your banal post

BelleHathor · 11/08/2023 08:45

DojaPhat · 10/08/2023 23:08

Even all the 'humans' are bad for the planet. Which humans? All of them? Are some groups better or worse than others? How do we gauge who is 'better' or worse. The group think which almost always happily skips, jumps, indeed leaps over nuance is most intriguing.

Starting to sound am awful lot like Eugenics. Greenwashed for the 21st century. But someone quite happily advocated for Africa and other continents to be abandoned and if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.

What is ironic?

Oh your reference to syntax.

How very helpful.🙄

Not my choice, we can’t control nature, but I’m going to die one day, I can’t avoid it, so if that came from a meteor hitting earth and wiping us all out tomorrow, as we’re counting down to impact, yes, the thought would cross my mind that at least the earth might now have a chance.

I mean do you really, honestly believe that we’re a good species for this planet? That we’ve not done more damage than any other creature to ever exist? The world, the universe is so much bigger than us, but we’re so full of our own importance. I truly believe we’ve evolved a very difficult level of intelligence, high enough to be aware of the bad we do, but not wise enough to change it.

dramoy · 11/08/2023 08:49

From an objective point of view, why should we have the chance to mature at other animals expense, at the planet’s expense? We’re no more important than any other species, in fact, far less important than many.

From an objective view we are the top dog, humans are the dominant form of life. Whether it's right or not it still is a fact.

I wasn't advocating to keep anyone. However, the most logical place for humans to live, from an environmental perspective, are those areas already cleared for agriculture. So that would be pretty much all of Europe.

debbrianna · 11/08/2023 08:51

pompomdaisy · 10/08/2023 21:34

I personally care more about the planet than I do the human race. I love my kids but ultimately as a species we are pretty crap.

I think we are destructive and exploitative and animals and plants would thrive without us. Yes power stations would erupt then after a million years there would be little trace. it's worth watching the programme as you will see that earth has recovered from far worse.

You only get to realise what the planet is in relation to humans. What's the point of the planet if there were no humans living in it? To the universe, planet Earth is a molecule and almost a non-entity in the grand scheme of things.

Daftasabroom · 11/08/2023 08:52

@onefinemess what makes you think there is no ecosystem in Europe? Did you not know we have rain forests too?

Maybe you should educate yourself.

Yep, and that means one day, we won’t be. Nothing lasts forever.

L3ThirtySeven · 11/08/2023 08:52

onefinemess · 11/08/2023 08:08

Oh do fuck off.

It's about biodiversity. There is almost none in Europe. I'm referring to places where there ARE still rainforest, exotic species and rare flora and fauna.

And for your information I'm not white.

Any thing else I can help you with?

Lots of “exotic” species in North Africa innit? Despite the fact that the land there is so hostile there’s more wildlife in a single European cow pat than in a sq Km of the Sahara.

Id rather humans take our central heating and air con and go live where wildlife cannot. So that’s Antarctica, that’s the Sahara, the Gobi, Death Valley, etc. Or even a few floating cities on the oceans, some large space stations.

If we are going to imagine this dystopia with any sort of consistency for preserving wildlife while keeping humans restricted to zoo enclosures that is.

I care but not enough to die for it.

It's not about taking things personally. As you say we will die out at some point & life will continue so the whole "humans need to die now" is pointless trite.

dramoy · 11/08/2023 08:56

Yep, and that means one day, we won’t be. Nothing lasts forever.

Wait, what?! This is groundbreaking stuff, I had no idea...

dramoy · 11/08/2023 08:57

@onefinemess Ok so we get you think Europe is the logical place to live, my question is who gets to live there?

? I don’t get your reaction, I find this a fascinating topic to discuss, I’m not attacking you or anything, it’s nothing personal, no need to be defensive. Yes we’re top of the food chain, because we’ve changed our environment to work for us. If you were put in a cage with a tiger, not so much.

Its not about individualism, it’s about seeing the bigger picture objectively.

dramoy · 11/08/2023 09:05

i don't think i'm being defensive, I just find your posts trite as I said.

"Yes we’re top of the food chain, because we’ve changed our environment to work for us. If you were put in a cage with a tiger, not so much."

This is what I mean. Factually humans evolved to be the top dog. Of course other animals can still kill us but humans don't exist in cages with tigers so your point is meaningless.

dramoy · 11/08/2023 09:09

I do actually find it an interesting topic to discuss as there's loads of nuance but personally I find debating with "humans are dreadful & need to die off as soon as possible" a bit of a dead end!
