After watching the programme about the great extinction 250 million years ago it's made me think this planet will be far better without us and the sooner we become extinct the better.

Er.... no🙄

It’s only on mn that I ever see people longing for the end of the human race.

I agree, its utterly ridiculous.

minipie · 10/08/2023 20:29

How great would it be if humans no longer lived in the Americas, or Africa, Australia and most of the Asian continent abandoned and returned to nature

Erm why are you choosing Europe as the place to be left populated?

I agree with you though that we need a LOT fewer humans.

Because Europe has almost no wildlife left. No rainforest, no exotic animals, we've already trashed the continent, may as well stay here now.

DojaPhat · 10/08/2023 21:11

Is this a genuine post @onefinemess?

Of course it is. Why is it so shocking to you?

onefinemess · 11/08/2023 08:08

DojaPhat · 10/08/2023 21:13

Unless you're being sarcastic, and even then I'm not sure what about, you're pretty much casually advocating for the erasure of everyone who basically not white?

Oh do fuck off.

It's about biodiversity. There is almost none in Europe. I'm referring to places where there ARE still rainforest, exotic species and rare flora and fauna.

And for your information I'm not white.

Any thing else I can help you with?

minipie · 11/08/2023 08:08

Can I ask those who believe that annihilation or population reduction is good for the planet how you feel about terrorist attacks, genocide, and war?

They’re all bloody awful, obviously.

Just because people think that the world would be better off with fewer humans, doesn’t mean we’re ok with the idea of lots of people dying.

There is an option that doesn’t involve mass deaths or even restrictions, which is that humans voluntarily significantly reduce the number of babies we are having. A reduction is already happening - the question is whether it’s happening fast enough to avoid enormous permanent damage to the world’s ecosystems.

onefinemess · 11/08/2023 08:10

Begsthequestion · 10/08/2023 21:22

Racist misanthropy, how quaint.

How about you stop making assumptions and educate yourself first.

It's about biodiversity. Maybe think before you post. And what makes you think I'm white?

Racist much?

Wtf is this comment about

why not the americas or Europe??!!?

I thought I’d seen it all on mumsnet until this post

Educate yourself about biodiversity!

Where do you think Rhinos live? Down in fucking Bristol?

Iamclearlyamug · 11/08/2023 08:13

pompomdaisy · 10/08/2023 21:34

I personally care more about the planet than I do the human race. I love my kids but ultimately as a species we are pretty crap.

I think we are destructive and exploitative and animals and plants would thrive without us. Yes power stations would erupt then after a million years there would be little trace. it's worth watching the programme as you will see that earth has recovered from far worse.

Out of curiosity, if the planet has recovered from far worse - what's the problem with humans? (generally, I admit we as a species are not perfect by any stretch of the imagination)

But if the planet has recovered from worse before, what's to say it can't recover again

Biodiversity.

About the sixth post I've had to reply to on here.

Tell me about the great rainforest of London?

What exotic species are roaming the great plains of Norwich?

Fuck all!

Go educate yourself.

Er.... no🙄

How would the planet not be better off without us? Of course it would, we’re the worst thing to ever happen to it. Put your ego aside and try to see things from a perspective that’s isn’t all about you/humans. It’s a cold hard fact, the planet would be better off without us.

dramoy · 11/08/2023 08:16

Most species have the natural ability to reduce their reproduction rates in response to their environment, but unfortunately and stupidly/selfishly/arrogantly humans have created a money-based society where they need to keep producing humans despite the impact of/on the environment.

Err children are born in poverty & war in many parts of the world. When women are educated & living becomes high fertility tends to fall

onefinemess · 11/08/2023 08:18

stargirl1701 · 10/08/2023 21:56

I disagree, OP. But....surely you would return humanity to Africa where we evolved.

And destroy whays of that beautiful continent?

Don't think so. May as well stay in Europe, we've spent ten thousand years trashing the place, we've made ourselves at home.

dramoy · 11/08/2023 08:18

Because Europe has almost no wildlife left. No rainforest, no exotic animals, we've already trashed the continent, may as well stay here now.

You would want to keep largely younger people from an economical perspective (healthy/cheaper) though?

boobot1 · 11/08/2023 08:20

Has anyone ever considered, we a just an immature species and within a hundred years we will of cracked free clean energy. We will have technology to return habitats back to their original state. We will have an understanding of genetics and could bring back any species we wanted. We may even move on to other planets. People are so bloody negative. The human race have achieved amazing feats. We should have the chance to mature and who knows what we could achieve.

I really do not understand the mentality. It’s like thinking that Jurassic Park was paradise on Earth (it was way warmer then too btw). I don’t know how people who think humans should “go extinct” imagine nature to be? How do they define “better” for the planet?

The planet was fine before we showed up.

Why is that so hard to understand.

Look at what we did to Mauritius. A pristine tropical paradise, lush rainforest and packed with exotic species.

Humans showed up and it tool less than 70 years to literally cut down every tree that existed on the island. We decimated it, fucking stripped it bare. Killed almost every living thing and wiped out an ecosystem that had taken hundreds of millions of years to evolve.

Animals have never been that destructive.

Daftasabroom · 11/08/2023 08:23

onefinemess · 10/08/2023 20:24

Yeah, I agree. Or at least there needs to be a significant reduction in the human population. Say 1 billion maximum. Whole continents need to be abandoned.

How great would it be if humans no longer lived in the Americas, or Africa, Australia and most of the Asian continent abandoned and returned to nature.

Humans could exist in small pockets of the most fertile remaining areas.

People need to stop having children.

But leave Europe?

But it’ll never change our nature. Humans are greedy, short term thinkers, we want as much as we can get now, without considering the future impact. It’s our nature, (and to be fair, a lot of other animals nature too) hence why people smoke and drink and eat bad food - it’s immediate gratification without concerning ourselves with the longer term impact. We would need to fundamentally change as a species. If we reach other planets before that happens, then we will become the aliens we’ve always feared, the ones that come to plunder and steal resources.

From an objective point of view, why should we have the chance to mature at other animals expense, at the planet’s expense? We’re no more important than any other species, in fact, far less important than many.

Daftasabroom · 11/08/2023 08:23

But leave Europe?

Jesus christ! How many fucking times do I have to explain this?

It's called an ECOSYSTEM!

Europe is a sterile wasteland. I'm referring to those areas which still have rainforest, exotic species, floral and fauna which needs to be protected.

THERE IS NOTHING IN EUROPE!

Wlpeople may as well stay here, we've already destroyed it.

Understand now?

Christ!

Fucking educate yourselves people!

onefinemess · 11/08/2023 08:29

WandaWonder · 10/08/2023 22:23

I take it seriously enough to have not had children. Why can you only see things from a personal point of view and not from an objective one?
