I’ve been chasing some post for about a month now. I’ve had some 3 letters delivered in the last few weeks one of which was dated April. I’m desperately awaiting a credit card that I need to use to pay for the rest of summer because I’m receiving a large lump sum in September but I’ve ran out of money for now. It’s infuriating knowing the cards sat at the mail hub ( with all my other mail) and I’ve got nothing ! Plus there are other letters there for me that I need too. What’s going on with them? Why are they so shit atm? I checked their ‘news ‘ thing and it states there are issues with my area but surely a month? It’s crazy. I’ve spoken to them already and got a generic email sent out.

Presumably they've got a shortage of drivers or post people. Is it at the main hub or your local sorting office?

TeenLifeMum · 08/08/2023 19:51

Yep, we get post once every 10 days now. Missing 2 letters from USA and one parcel arrived with content stolen (just an empty box).

dotdotdotdash · 08/08/2023 19:55

Yes, South London; and the delays have been going on for several years. Typically birthday cards and gifts will arrive up to two months late. I had a hospital appointment letter a week after the appointment. They have just reduced the collection depot opening hours to two hours a day. The Royal Mail is being run into the ground.

Ohmylovejune · 08/08/2023 19:56

Yes, post comes about once a week. Seems to be the expected norm.

I sent 30 24 hour tracked packaged recently. Sent on a Monday. 1/3 turned up Tuesday. 1/3 Wednesday. Last third all by Friday. So, pretty rubbish for first class, but at least they all arrived.

Cognitivedisonance · 08/08/2023 19:57

@GoodChat the main sorting hub has reportedly got a backlog . But I haven’t seen a postie or a van round here either. I’m desperate for work! I’ll go over and sort it for them. At least I’ll get what’s probably a wheelbarrow load of post I’m missing too!

Yes in Nottinghamshire. Missing a parcel and had no post at all for a week or so

Ohmylovejune · 08/08/2023 19:57

Ask them if they are hiring. They say they are down here

Ah right. That's bizarre as we see our posties every single day. Sometimes twice if someone's got a parcel being delivered.

Cognitivedisonance · 08/08/2023 20:00

@dotdotdotdash hmm. That’s interesting. I’m Greater London too but north. Also missed medical appointments letters here too! Is it because of funding or staff issues or what?

Delays & infrequent deliveries. On the whole it's fine, but I am waiting for a new credit card (having to change lots of payments on line has been a hassle) and another important (date sensitive) letter.

but I'm just 'it is what it is' if they can't get the additional staff they need there's nothing much they can do about it.

CaputDraconis · 08/08/2023 20:31

Yup we get post every 2 to 3 weeks if we're lucky.

They are prioritising parcels.

I have been down to the sorting office to collect post but they have changed their opening hours to 8-10 Monday to Friday so no use for anyone who works.

hiredandsqueak · 08/08/2023 20:33

We seem to get one delivery a week just now although we have gone as long as two weeks before. Our regular postie is off sick and expected to be for some months so I suppose they are struggling to cover. Frustrating if you are expecting or needing a delivery.

dotdotdotdash · 08/08/2023 20:41

@Cognitivedisonance They closed a sorting office and merged post to one a couple of years ago. My postie says that managers occasionally get temps in to blitz the backlog, but my understanding is that they are systematically understaffing the depot.

mondaytosunday · 08/08/2023 21:31

When I moved to my neighbourhood two years ago (sw London) I was appalled at the mail service. We went up to three weeks without a delivery. I got Christmas cards in February. It got a bit better after several people in the street complained but it's back to once a week or less. And postage keeps on going up.
I remember when you got post twice a day!

AnneElliott · 08/08/2023 22:06

Yes we seem to just get a delivery once a week and no longer every day.

I send birthday cards first class over a week in advance just to make sure they get there.

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 08/08/2023 22:17

Yes, also in London. Maybe 1 delivery a week if we're lucky over the past 6-12 months, apparently due to chronic staff shortages at our local sorting office. Our MP has been involved. Sometimes I go along to the office and collect a big pile, but the opening hours are bonkers so not always possible.

squashyhat · 08/08/2023 22:35

Yes. East Sussex. And when it does appear it's mostly junk. I gave up on receiving a promised new credit card and ordered a replacement, only for the original to appear 10 days after it was sent. So now I have to wait at least a week for the replacement to arrive. It's a joke.

I only ever use RM when I absolutely have to. I usually use Evri tbh which is a lot more reliable and cheaper.

Nitgel · 08/08/2023 22:56

We went to the sorting office to pick up an important letter

Cognitivedisonance · 09/08/2023 09:08

thank you everyone for your input, I’m sorry you’re having issues although I feel slightly comforted knowing it’s a widespread issue and not just us! I’ve follow a RM updates page which specifically names my sorting hub as problematic at the moment but other problems have been removed/ resolved from other hubs so presumably now those hubs have got their acts together resources can be directed towards mine and there should be some mail arriving soon. We live in hope!

Cognitivedisonance · 09/08/2023 09:12

@squashyhat yes! This is the exact limbo I’m in, I don’t want to report the card missing as Sod’s law it’ll arrive the next day but will have been cancelled. We’re working our way through random freezer shite and the post apocalyptic corner of the food cupboard now… at least we have sunshine today and we’ve got a fabulous park nearby so DS will be amused. Come on postie! You can do this!

Basketballqueen · 09/08/2023 09:13

They're so bad around here the MP is now involved. We get post in batches every few weeks if we're lucky. Things that are 'guaranteed' 24 or 48 delivery can take a week or more to arrive. Parcels? Forget it, consider it lost.

I've taken to using alternatives, not good for RM.

I went to send something the other day and the guy at the counter asked if I wanted to send it guaranteed for the next day because sending 1st class would apparently take 3-5 days, 2nd a week or more... So WOULD it arrive next day if I paid the extra? Well, he said. Probably not but in a few days maybe... I politely declined.

Zingy123 · 09/08/2023 09:14

There has been so many job cuts. Go to your local delivery office with ID and they should have a look for you. I work for RM and we are told to prioritise parcels.

Cognitivedisonance · 09/08/2023 09:16

@Basketballqueen well at least he was honest I suppose. It must be a bit soul destroying for those who’ve worked there a long time and we’re proud to be part of the service before it all went to shit. I think if I was an operations manager at my local I’d be popping next door to the big Amazon hub and getting them to help out . I could have a new tv , a pair of trainers and a whole dinner service here tomorrow morning along with 3 months worth of post … we’ll if I had my new credit card I would anyway 😂
