To never tip the Uber Eats driver?

oceanbeach2000 · 07/08/2023 19:46

I used to tip every driver even if it was a mere £2. Still something.

But I think everyone has experienced that disappointment when 1 or more items from your order is missing.

(I'm not talking just specifically Uber Eats, I also mean Just Eat, Hungry House, Deliveroo etc)

Do you tip? If not, why?

Depends. Usually not. I wish I did more. Not an easy job and imagine poorly paid for what it is

guineacup · 07/08/2023 19:55

No, I don't agree in principle with tipping someone simply for doing their job.

And I find the "it's a hard job and poorly paid..." so let's give him some loose change all a bit condescending, especially as care workers and cleaners never get tips and frankly a delivery driver has a much easier job!

DinoRoar14 · 07/08/2023 19:56

No I don't tip.

It really is an easy job compared to most... Yoi drive to an address, and deliver the take away to the door, get back in your van, and drive back!

I always tip £2

£3 when it’s pouring with rain

majority thank me for the tip

Missing items are presumably not the driver's fault though. They are given the completed order by the restaurant. They don't actually prepare and pack it!

BlackForestCake · 07/08/2023 19:59

I've used Uber Eats precisely twice and I couldn't believe all the extra charges. There was something like a minimum order and then a delivery charge and a platform fee and then you're expected to tip as well?

Neverseenbefore · 07/08/2023 19:59

No. But then I never use UberEats, or the other companies. I don’t think I’d tip if I did, though.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 07/08/2023 20:00

I always tip the person that is alone in the car with my food. Where possible I tip before it arrives. I try and use the same take out.

Wanking in the mayonnaise was not an urban myth where I grew up. He was arrested.

SM4713 · 07/08/2023 20:03

I don't use any of those apps, because they already add a surcharge to each dish for using them! I only order home delivery from places who have their own delivery drivers. If they don't deliver and the uber/just eat etc is the ONLY option for delivery, then I'll collect it or not bother.

I don't routinely tip them- no.

VinEtFromage · 07/08/2023 20:03

I've used Deliveroo twice recently (and no others previously) I didn't tip because they charge delivery & a service fee. If the guys aren't getting paid enough out of that, they need to kick up or a stink or change companies.

KrisAkabusi · 07/08/2023 21:34

It's not the driver's fault if food is missing though, so why should he miss out on a tip for someone else's mistake?

Sigmama · 07/08/2023 21:35

Of course I tip, they don't earn enough

ThreeLittleDots · 07/08/2023 21:36

I never tip, I earn minimum wage too

Mutinyonthecrunchie · 07/08/2023 21:38

I have never tipped anyone and not going to start now for a variety of reasons.

OhmygodDont · 07/08/2023 21:42

I mean the delivery fee is surely what this is meant to cover. We already get charged for every bloody click on the app it feels.

BananaSlug · 07/08/2023 21:42

I never tip. The last delivery guy stole our chips

BiscuitsandPuffin · 07/08/2023 21:43

I already paid a delivery fee why would I double it to give to someone who is already being paid by their employer to do this job?

God it annoys me that tipping culture virtue-signalling is taking hold in the UK.

Giving people more money doesn't stop them being sick fetishists who get their kicks fucking with your food. Sorry. No amount of money would stop someone like that.

MariaVT65 · 07/08/2023 21:50

Things like Uber Eats charge high delivery fees, so no I don’t tip extra.

I also don’t tip anyone at all. Many jobs pay minimum wage and I don’t understand why some should get tipped and others shouldn’t. I used to work as a trained bra fitter, including everything such as post-surgery bras. That pays minimum wage and you don’t get tipped.

Okbyethen · 07/08/2023 21:52

I don't tip them.
They get a salary and the delivery charges are added to the order anyway. Not my fault if they're not paid enough 🤷🏻‍♀️

Sigmama · 07/08/2023 22:00

Bananaslug - how do you know he stole your chips

Sigmama · 07/08/2023 22:01

It's tight not to tip

I agree

continentallentil · 07/08/2023 22:04

A few quid quid usually. I wish they were paid properly but like waiters I think they rely on tips
