I bought something on eBay last Sunday - job listing stated two-day shipping so I thought it would be shipped Monday, arriving Wednesday. The seller didn’t dispatch it until late on Tuesday and it didn’t turn up until Friday. I messaged on Tuesday asking if it had been sent yet - no reply but they switched the status to dispatched. I followed up on Thursday and got a ‘well I know I didn’t reply but I switched the status’ type message back. When the item finally arrived, it was poorly packaged in basically one of those plastic food bags. I left an honest (negative) review - poor communication, badly packaged, arrived later than stated - and now the seller has finally got in touch to apologise that it took longer than the listing, and for the poor communication and packaging. They didn’t offer to try and fix it (ie small partial refund) but asked me to change the review as it might hurt their business. WTF? Treat your customers badly, run the risk of future ones not shopping with you, I say. Am I just being grumpy - shall I be nice and change it or stand my ground?

Unreasonable - don’t be a moody mare, everyone is dealing with their own stuff, get off your high horse and change it
Reasonable - they’ve reaped what they’ve sewn, leave the review.

Hopefully they've learned their lesson. If the packaging didn't mean that the item was damaged then its not really an issue surely?

BiscuitsandPuffin · 07/08/2023 17:22

YANBU they aren't messaging you to be kind, they're trying to save their skins. I'd leave the review. It's amazing how many people will totally ignore you when you contact them about basic stuff you've paid for, until you leave an appropriate review when they magically appear.
I think people like that should just sort it out in the first place.

Bluevelvetsofa · 07/08/2023 17:27

What’s the point of a review if you aren’t allowed to leave a truthful one?

MaMaMeeAah · 07/08/2023 17:27

i wouldn't change it. Its true

ItsADoggieDogWorld · 07/08/2023 17:34

Well was this two day shipping two days till dispatch, or two days to arrive?
I have two day shipping on my listings which means if you order Sunday I will send either Tuesday or Wednesday. Also if the shipping was second class post, this can take up to five days to arrive from posting these days.
As a seller I find that people cannot seem to grasp simple shipping notices. We are human beings you know, not Amazon Prime. Please make sure that you have left bad feedback on their mistake, not on yours.

Ariela · 07/08/2023 17:55

2 day generally means WORKING DAY, so a Sunday order I'd expect shipped Tuesday. Not Monday. Couriers /post isn't collected on a Sunday and only Royal Mail collects up to noon Saturday from the PO. So anyone running a business won't ship a Saturday order till Monday or Tuesday earliest.

ThreeLittleDots · 07/08/2023 18:03

I thought it would be shipped

It doesn't matter what YOU thought, it depends on what the eBay listing quoted as the estimated arrival date; this depends on the individual sellers' own turnaround times they've set up.

If it wasn't damaged then change your feedback.

eBay selling is utterly shit for sellers as it is and no harm done, actually?

housekermit · 07/08/2023 18:06

Arrival within two days. When I went to leave the review, eBay listed the day it should have arrived (Wednesday 2nd August). I wouldn’t actually have minded if it took 5 days had 2 days not been in the listing. I get that individual sellers aren’t Amazon, and I don’t need them to be, but they also shouldn’t list unfeasible shipping times they can’t keep 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would always assume that "2 day shipping" meant the shipping would take 2 days, not you'd take 2 days to start the shipping process. I really don't think that's clear at all! I wonder if it's just me thinks that way?

Santa24689claus · 07/08/2023 18:25

As a seller on eBay I use first class post, but ebay then gives the estimated arrival day based on when it thinks Royal Mail should deliver. Unfortunately that does mean that buyers think it will arrive quicker than Royal mail actually deliver it. Some places they are taking over a week to deliver a first class letter so I wouldn't rely on a delivery day being accurate.
That said it does sound like they dispatched it late and then haven't bothered to communicate with you so I would probably leave the negative review.

The point of the review is that it gives future buyers an indication of the service they can expect to receive. If the seller couldn't be bothered to package OPs order properly, what's to say they won't do the same to another customer and it result in their order arriving damaged?

HollieHobbie · 07/08/2023 18:51

Two working days despatch means you buy Sunday and the seller has until last post on Tuesday to send it.

Were your goods all in one piece and worth the money ???
If so, that's all that matters.

LightSpeeds · 07/08/2023 19:09

I probably would have left a neutral review for that.

amylou8 · 07/08/2023 19:29

EBay delivery dates are completely unrealistic, they tell buyers it will arrive sooner to compete with Amazon, and then leave sellers to deal with the fallout. My delivery estimates are before my shipping cut off. As businesses we've complained time and time again about this.
Whilst this gives buyers unrealistic expectations, they are as eBay keeps saying only estimates, and getting something you've ordered Sunday on Friday is far from slow (don't try vinted you might explode!). So yes you're being unreasonable.

I order from Vinted all the time and am never bothered by how quickly things arrive - because I’m not promised two days’ arrival! It even stated DPD/UPS, i.e. expedited shipping rather than Royal Mail.

This is what I think.

Did it at say that or did it say dispatches within 2 days?

It quoted the following Wednesday (2nd Aug) as delivery - as in, I bought Sunday (30th Jul), it would be shipped on Monday to arrive two days after.

Why on earth don't you count Monday as a working day?

Because 'shipping in 2 days' means to me you'll ship it off in 2 working days. It might potentially as a retailer be better to use the term 'despatched' perhaps, but 'shipped' is NOT 'delivered' Shipped as a verb means to send something
See https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/ship
'Delivery in 2 days' means it'll be shipped AND delivered in 2 days.

ship

1. a large boat for travelling on water, especially across the sea: 2. to send…

Ariela · 07/08/2023 20:50

@Twyford I do count Monday as a working day, but having worked in the parcel industry for years and years I can tell you now that a rainy Saturday = loads of orders as everyone stops at home, so pretty unlikely they'll finish and ship all the Sunday orders on Monday, and many will go on Tuesday IME! So shipped in 2 days.

IhearyouClemFandango · 07/08/2023 20:52

I wouldn't necessarily change my review, but I do think you were unreasonable.

CaroleSinger · 07/08/2023 20:58

Whenever I sell anything I always post things the day they were bought or following morning if they bought at night and I message immediately to tell them I posted it and attach proof of postage with the message. There's nothing worse than poor communication. I once bought something and waited nearly 2 weeks for a 3 day delivery, the box was battered. Another item was fragile and hadn't been padded at all so I was honest. I'm afraid you have to earn good feedback by being a good seller and I'd be inclined to let it stand if it's honest.

HalloumiLuvver · 07/08/2023 21:56

Me too @FarmGirl78

I would also assume "2 days shipping" means it will arrive in 2 working days (not weekend) from my order, NOT that the seller has 2 days grace to get their arse to the post office!
