To think we will be ok in mid thirties heat without aircon?

Travelling with husband and 18 month old for four nights to see family.

Accommodation option 1 is a 2 bed flat, has a terrace and fans.
Accommodation option 2 is a hotel, perfectly nice and has a pool and air con.

We are disagreeing which is best. Terrace would mean once toddler is in bed we can sit out and have wine, and she could have her own room, hotel room means once toddler is asleep we are committed to spending the evening quietly in the room sat on the bed.
However, in the hotel room we will be nice and cool and the pool and air con will mean we can get respite from the heat. Price point and location the same.

YANBU- apartment
YABU- hotel room

Air con every time.

SapphosRock · 07/08/2023 07:27

Are they the only two options?

Can't you get an apartment with air con?

DustyLee123 · 07/08/2023 07:28

I used to put mine in their PJ’s then in the buggy so we could stay out later.

YallaYallaaa · 07/08/2023 07:28

You will be OK, but it won’t be fun.

Are there no other options?

Piggywaspushed · 07/08/2023 07:28

I'd want the apartment with the air con. And a pool. I realise this isn't one of the options.

But, if forced... aircon wins.

Brintons · 07/08/2023 07:28

Air con. I like to keep the windows closed to keep the bugs out.

NEmama · 07/08/2023 07:29

Aircon. Aircon . Aircon

Catsmere · 07/08/2023 07:29

Definitely aircon for me. I'm in Australia, I'm accustomed to that sort of godawful summer temperature, and no way would I want to be without the option of turning AC on - especially after the heat's been building up for a few days.

Pinkflamingopants · 07/08/2023 07:29

God no, air con needed. But surely you can find an apartment with air con

Lightsbonaza · 07/08/2023 07:30

Mid 30s as in around 35degrees?
that is hot. For me, it’s the pool that would be tempting me to the hotel. But you are right it is pretty crap when sharing with a sleeping child. Can you upgrade to room with small balcony?

vitDsunshine · 07/08/2023 07:30

I've just come back from a far flung holiday where temps were low to mid thirties. Honestly, massive mistake not to have air on and a pool.

Changingplace · 07/08/2023 07:30

I’d keep looking for an option of an apartment with a balcony and air con.

thinkkook · 07/08/2023 07:31

Air con! You'll be sitting out with your wine sweating and uncomfortable.

CasperGutman · 07/08/2023 07:31

Depends on the apartment. In an old building with thick stone walls and shutters, looking out on a shady courtyard on a hill with a cool sea breeze? Lovely! In an underinsulated 1970s block, no shade, south facing onto a street of baking concrete? It'll be hideous and the terrible decision to stay there will blight the whole holiday.

No pressure, then! 😄

bellac11 · 07/08/2023 07:31

An apartment with aircon, I never stay in hotels

Warringstars · 07/08/2023 07:32

We were in that heat recently, definitely air con. It was fierce especially for kids, and needed relief of air con and pool. Still very hot into the evening and night too.

Fillyfrog · 07/08/2023 07:32

Air con. Fans don't do anything apart from blow warm air. Toddler probably wouldn't struggle to sleep in that heat anyway

Xmasbaby11 · 07/08/2023 07:32

Definitely the hotel ! Pool and air con will be lovely.

I’d keep the toddler up a bit later as pp says.

I would try to find an apartment with air con if you can.

Fillyfrog · 07/08/2023 07:32

Probably would*

Lkahsvtv · 07/08/2023 07:33

Air con for definite; your DD may find the heat a lot which is what we found abroad

NancyJoan · 07/08/2023 07:33

Aircon, for sure. Just keep your toddler up a bit later than at home.

DustyLee123 · 07/08/2023 07:33

Sometimes kids get sick when they’re away, I’d be wanting air con just incase.

Ginmonkeyagain · 07/08/2023 07:33

One of our hotel rooms in France last month that had no aircon (not a deliberate choice!) and temps were low thirties.

We had a fan that we left on, we kept windows and shutters closed during the day and open over night.

We were out a lot (and frankly because we were walking and swimming a lot, out late most nights and drinking, sleeping wasn't an issue!) and we were only there for three days.

It was broadly fine, the biggest issue was being sweaty after a shower and getting dressed after!

TiredandLate · 07/08/2023 07:34

I doubt your toddler will settle well in a hot room so your terrace idea might not pan out..

We've just done 10 days in those temps and opening the balcony door (day and night) was like walking out into a sauna. I bloody love it, but air con is a must for sleep.

RoadSignFool · 07/08/2023 07:36

Depends what time you normally go to bed, whether a few early nights might be quite good and allow you to be up and making the most of the cool mornings outside. Do you have a book you’re keen to finish or a Netflix show to binge watch with headphones on?

You’re visiting family, can someone take your toddler for a few hours so you can go off and have a nice lunch as a couple to relax and chat then instead of in the terrace at night?

Might not do too much harm for her child to stay up a bit later while on hols too. Do they still nap during the day?

Aircon and pool are a godsend- we are just back from a week in the S of Spain with a 6 year old- it was lovely with both of these and would have been hell without. On the other hand, drinking wine on the terrace from toddler bedtime will just give you a hangover the next day, and you can always chat at home…
