A man has been given an 8 month suspended sentence after bashing the crap out of his 15 year old daughter with a metal bar. Apparently he did it because she’d committed the heinous crime of wearing make up to school… which she’d put on to cover up the bruises from previous times he’d bashed the crap out of her. Two years of abuse this child has endured at his hands.

But because this poor kid gave a statement asking for leniency, saying SHE feels guilty because SHE has brought shame on her family, he’s basically got away with it.

AIBU to think this man is a violent criminal who belongs in prison?!

(Daily Mail link, sorry but it was that or The ☀️)

Yes he is a a violent vicious criminal. Every time someone says it's their culture, or otherwise suggests they should be excused because of their culture, is colluding and supporting violence against women. Plenty of those of mumnsnet that fancy themselves liberal and declare anyone who disagrees racists. Couldn't be further from being liberal.
Living in the UK, fully benefiting from it and continuing to practice cultures and practices that have zero compatibility with living in a civilised society where women and girls have agency over the body and their life. We are told to celebrate it.

Elephantsdontlikechocolate · 06/08/2023 15:08

Close to all girls and women in certain communities and religions suffer daily abuse from men controlling their lives and bodies from birth to old age, having no agency, being second class and facing severe repercussions for disobeying, speaking out or leaving their communities - that affect their whole families for generations.
A typical European, traditional to this country religion or no religion woman is able to leave her abusive environment, there is little consequence but a better life. A typical woman in the recently welcomed to this country cultures where women are the class of a goat will not just become ostracised but so will her family for generations and possibly will even get murdered.
The level of abuse and consequences cannot be even comprehended by those ignorant wooly morons that like to celebrate this to appear tolerant and liberal. Anything but.

Women aren't able to dress, live, work or love as they see fit because of the effect (shame and ostracisizing and personal insury or murder) that'll be brought on their families, particularly sisters, nieces and other females. If you know your going out in a mini-skirt or moving in with a white man means your sisters or nieces wont ever get married, even if you know that's wrong, most simply won't do it.
There is no freedom in that choice since the brainwashing starts from birth and values and women's freedoms normal for this country are rejected as they are for what's perceived as white whores. A lot of those women believe it's the right way to live.
Vile.
Well done to the girl for speaking out despite the possible consequences. Most normal people know and understand what life is like for women in her community, but for a few morons, who in their ignorance want to normalise it, it needs to be called out.
In some London boroughs and some cities such communities dominate in their numbers, and comprising large proportion of the UK population, it changes the culture and the rights of women in the UK for the worse.
Already on the London underground notices have had to be put up that sexual ogling, staring and touching isn't acceptable. This is done because of a large male population from abroad and from communities that don't understand how a male can sit beside a woman and still control his urges, having being raised in a segregated environment where a woman out on her own equals being a fair game.

Disgusting

The teenager feels guilt and shame and still loves him

The judge had a chance to protect that girl and her family

And he didnt

Sittingonasale · 06/08/2023 15:13

There's another thread on this. The man should have been locked up.
There's no way the girl and mother will get away with this scot free in that family. There will be consequences, that man will ensure that if he does it himself or gets others to do it.
Those poor kids need protection and they haven't got it.

Let's hope it's not another honour killing.

ReformedWaywardTeen · 06/08/2023 15:13

When are we going to protect all our girls and women? Where is the justice?

I knew what community that poor girl would be from before I even read it. It's like because of their customs, it's treated as that, as an excuse.

Someone must protect that poor girl before she becomes yet another statistic, another "lessons will be learned" case on the news.

Because lessons never really are learned are they? Not when it comes to women from, especially, that community.

Clearly she's so in fear she's done what she's been told and begged for leniency? How can the judge involved not see what is obvious? She is being controlled! She has been the victim of years of what I imagine are savage beatings in the place she should feel safer than anywhere else.

Sorry it just makes me so upset.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/08/2023 16:22

Well done to the girl for speaking out despite the possible consequences

But do we know who reported this in the first place aand what's she really been able to speak out about? Especially when, once in court, her main thrust seems to have been to beg for leniency for her parent?

In the UK it's the CPS who bring cases rather than the victim, and when someone's been publicly beaten unconscious with an iron bar I'd like to think that's hard to brush aside
However, had this dreadful assault not happened in public I wouldn't want to assume we'd ever have heard about it

Absolutely shocking.
