To wonder why the FUCK this guy isn’t in jail?!

A man has been given an 8 month suspended sentence after bashing the crap out of his 15 year old daughter with a metal bar. Apparently he did it because she’d committed the heinous crime of wearing make up to school… which she’d put on to cover up the bruises from previous times he’d bashed the crap out of her. Two years of abuse this child has endured at his hands.

But because this poor kid gave a statement asking for leniency, saying SHE feels guilty because SHE has brought shame on her family, he’s basically got away with it.

AIBU to think this man is a violent criminal who belongs in prison?!

Exactly it’s actually racist of the judge and many of the posters here too btw to put this down to culture. I know plenty of white teen girls knocked around by dads and stepdads.

most or at least many children will defend their parents, even some kids who have been sexually abused don’t want their abused parents going to prison so I’m amazed that her wishes were taken into account. She has grown up with abuse and also loves her father like most kids do so of course she’s not going to be thinking straight.

to me if anything it shows that this culture as a whole - ie the whole world- doesn’t value women and girls especially if they’re related to the man who has victimised them. It’s like when people used to say “it’s a domestic” and ignore a man hitting his wife or gf because they’re seen as the man’s property. I bets if this man had did this to a random unrelated Girl, especially a white middle class girl, he would have went down for it.

I can’t honestly imagine that Dave from Dagenham or Nigel from Newcastle would have received such a sentence had they done the same to their child.

Should get a Whole life prison sentence, never released, would send a very clear message to men of any culture that we will not tolerate this.

If not, in a while, he 'll kill his daughter.

Hopefully this sentence will be appealed.

And I don’t know the stats for Asian men but I do know that white women are given the most lenient sentences, black women are sentenced similarly to white MEN and black men are punished the most harshly out of all groups.

This is based on heaps of research comparing the sentences given to people who have committed a similar crime.

so yeah less of the minorities get away with it crap. Rotherham or Rochdale etc happened because the girls were seen as damaged goods sadly from rough families or in care. I worked with kids in care from all cultures and they’re generally seen as an easy target from men of all races and police sadly don’t respond to them being at risk or missing the way they would to a normal kid especially a middle class white girl.

We all know how the media and police act differently when a white woman or child goes missing (unless she’s a sex worker etc) again there is research in media studies or prove this if you haven’t noticed. so again stop acting as if it’s minorities who get specially good treatment.

You can also look at it another way…So often I hear judges or police see they see their daughter in the victim as they have a child that age blah blah . I wonder if in this case they don’t feel that same empathy and have therefore not acted to protect this Asian girl. But they would likely see Nigel’s daughter as a more innocent and fragile victim worthy of protection.

but yea sadly there are horrendous cases with men of all races being let go after abusing kids. Of course the daily mail will spotlight certain ones more to further their agenda…

He’s perfectly entitled to beat women, especially his wife as long as he doesn’t beat her any worse than he would an errant dog and provided he uses a stick which is no thicker than his thumb.

there is - clearly - a lot of bias in the justice system. But we tend to primarily focus on the perpetrator without factoring in how the identity of the victim may factor into this as well.

And I would wonder if this abuser had experienced the same leniency if he had victimised a member of an other race, sex etc.

a white girl, for example.

or a white boy. Or any other race, ethnicity etc.

@Oatycookies it’s a moot point because the issue is him beating his own child- his own daughter. The sentence should be harsher for hurting those you are supposed to protect. I know most parents of any ethnicity or race can’t understand this mentality of beating your own child with a metal bar and biting their face. It is an exceptional level of violence. The point of the law is that everyone should be equal before it, I understand why this doesn’t always work in practice, but the cultural back ground and ethnicity of perpetrator and victim should not even be a factor. We don’t do this to children under the laws of this country, which he is subject to.

If you don’t know the stats for Asian men, don’t comment at all. Especially don’t comment to say that white women get special treatment as this minimises the real issue which is violence against women and girl of all races, where the first violence starts at home. If you make wedges between “white women” and “all other women” you make it harder for all people to be united against violence against women. People with families who care about them get media attention because the families make it happen. Everybody else is invisible regardless of race or background. We need to focus on making the invisible violence against women visible, by contacting the sentencing department above for example, not by making wedges between people based on incomplete data and tangential whataboutary.

The way things are going, "honour beatings" will probably become legal in the UK.

That just feeds the racists too. Disgraceful from the judge.

Ignoring cultural behaviours doesn't make them go away- it reinforces the belief that the abusers can get away with it.

I grew up in a 'cultural' environment. I liken it more to a cult now. I suffered abuse in ways many people couldn't comprehend and yes, my father/uncles/cousins/brothers and others got away with it.

He never ever even raised his voice in anger to anyone let alone beat anyone. He admonished firmly anyone physically hitting anyone including animals and even asked us to treat plants with kindness.

He also said any man who raises daughters, educates them and helps them find a good husband will enter paradise with me.

Nothing in Islam justifies this man's behaviour. this is misogyny with a good dash of culture thrown in.

I didn’t realise it was ok to carry a weapon for protection if you’re a delivery driver. Is this rule just for men as women can’t carry mace spray for protection?

They know… too scared to be labelled racist. I went to the same school. Many years ago and it was happening then, really threat for girls to be shipped back to Pakistan at the slightest hint they were becoming “westernised “ ie normal teen girls

Nah, that was just the excuse they used to turn a blind eye, the police have never been particularly concerned with being called racist, it’s only when crimes impact women and girls that it’s suddenly a massive concern for them.
