Desperate for help (Birmingham, Twitter, car keys, NCP)

AIBU to beg for help from strangers on the internet?

I’m on holiday in Birmingham with three kids. I parked in an NCP car park on Monday night and we’ve been staying in a car park since.

We checked out this morning to leave and head home (Brighton) via Coventry to see my Nan (90 years old).

I can’t find my car keys 🤦🏻‍♀️

Glad you got sorted OP.
I once dropped my car keys down a grid, they fell out of my pocket lifting DS1 out of his car seat.
I managed to get them back after calling the council and a very very nice man from the highway department managed to come and get them out for me.
I was very pregnant with DS2 at the time and I had a little cry on the man Blush

Can you get a person with a metal detector?
My brother found by engagement ring once like that.

Also, check your pockets of bag and clothes and where you normally put your keys. Just under the bed, down back of tables/beds/TV etc.. or in the linen.

I have mislaid my keys so many times and they are usually just where they should be but in cognito.

LoisLane66 · 05/08/2023 04:58

Are the keys IN THE CAR?

DreamTheMoors · 05/08/2023 05:23

I’m so happy you’re home and safe @LostCarKeys-

I lost my keys once when I stopped off at home before I had to dash out for a meeting. I was in a rush - all of a sudden I couldn’t find my keys, which was crazy because I had only been home for ten minutes.
I looked everywhere & then I began looking in places I knew they couldn’t possibly be, but I just couldn’t find my keys!!
They were in my hand. 🙄

Is there not any security at the NCP car park for you to ask if any keys have been handed in?

Have you checked coat pockets? Sometimes I put things in my coat and forget about them.

£250 is expensive. If you can't find your keys, can you go to the local car dealership of the car make and ask if they can help? They would usually have a parts department

£250 is nothing compared to an NCP parking charge for one week!!!

helpfulperson · 05/08/2023 07:08

I lost mine once and found them in my bra when I went to bed that night.

Invested!

Birdsongsinging · 05/08/2023 08:16

Glad you got home in end.

Xenia · 05/08/2023 08:58

Glad you made it home last night even though it was late.

Soapyspuds · 05/08/2023 10:12

Gosh, aren't you hilarious!! Not

"Not"?

Hello 1998 is on the phone. They want their insults back.

Theimpossiblegirl · 05/08/2023 10:22

I'm more invested than I realised.
I dreamt I lost my keys and they were in my child's paw patrol backpack. Then they were in the lining of my coat as there was a hole in the pocket.

My child is 21 and has never had a paw patrol backpack and I don't have a long black puffa.

Glad you got home, op.

I got home about 20 mins ago. It's been an eventful day. I'll post an update tomorrow for any of you who are invested.

Glad you made it back. You know you are going to go to get something out of your bag and it’ll be there on the top.

Tippexy · 05/08/2023 16:05

I don’t think we’re going to find out what happened.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 05/08/2023 16:08

I hope we get an update!

SlayB · 05/08/2023 17:27

Did you find the keys OP ? Hope today was calmer.

Thisisthedawningoftheageofaquarius · 05/08/2023 17:39

dapsnotplimsolls · 05/08/2023 18:28

Hmph.

1974devon · 05/08/2023 18:51

So glad home now...where were they? Or never found and had to pay out to AA ?

pollymere · 05/08/2023 19:44

Prayers to St Jude when things seem hopeless. I feel you either lost them in Sainsbury's or were out when you lost them but not on the day you arrived.

My car locks itself so I have to be careful not to leave the keys in it.

RG89 · 05/08/2023 19:47

Hope you got to see your Nan in the end and had a good night's sleep!

RiceBurner · 05/08/2023 19:51

Hoping for an update!

if it’s a remote unlock key (which I presume it most likely is) then £250 is actually a bargain compared to what most dealerships would charge for a replacement remote unlock key.

Even just a simple manual unlock key is usually £150 - £200.

@LostCarKeys my advice would be to check your home contents insurance, it will quite often provide key cover (which will include car keys). It’s worth a shot, but if not the £250 is probably the cheapest quote you will get.
