Desperate for help (Birmingham, Twitter, car keys, NCP)

AIBU to beg for help from strangers on the internet?

I’m on holiday in Birmingham with three kids. I parked in an NCP car park on Monday night and we’ve been staying in a car park since.

We checked out this morning to leave and head home (Brighton) via Coventry to see my Nan (90 years old).

I can’t find my car keys 🤦🏻‍♀️

@LostCarKeys I am probably way too late with this but had you considered what else was on the keyring? As in a loyalty card for boots, a petrol station or somewhere you might have used it at! That would be a reason to have your keys out. I've put my keys in a make up bag before and also the fridge when tired! Was there a mini bar at hotel? I usually mislay my keys when I have too much to hold in my hands. Are there any open pockets on your bags where you wouldn't normally put keys which you might have accidently put them into in a hurry? In a shopping bag where you were shopping? If nothing else please get a Tile and the app to go with it. I don't usually lose my keys now thanks to the app! I even found them on holiday recently when my husband had borrowed them and put them in his jeans pockets and stuffed them in his luggage! You can make them ring from your phone if in range and it tells you how close they are. we used it to 'scan' our luggage until I found them as I couldn't hear it ringing it was packed so tight. About £30 but worth it for your sanity! Hope you are into your car now!

Aww OP! This sounds soooooo stressful

I hope you are home safe now.

I know it doesn't help for now, but I have lost my car keys a few times and now I pay for a service where by I have a number on my king ring. If someone finds my keys they call the number and get a reward if they post them to address given. The company then sends me back my keys! I also have various beeping devices attached to my key chain - but the usefulness of these is variable!

Not quite the same but I lost an earring. I had drunk quite a bit and couldn't think straight. It turned up in DH pocket. I don't know why I'd have put it in there but I must have. DH didn't even know I'd lost an earring so he wouldn't have put it there. Could you have put the keys in DH or DC pockets?

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 04/08/2023 23:24

Hope you are sorted now

I can recommend one of these to ensure you never go through this again

OP your best bed would be to ring Bristol Street motors (large garage) and ask if they have any keys for your car. Not sure of a large garage would keep a few spare keys. I think if you tell them your car make/model and registration number they can order you one. Could you either stay over the weekend at the hotel if they could get you a key for Monday morning? Praying to St. Anthony for you.

caringcarer · 04/08/2023 23:28

Does your house insurance have lost key cover. I know mine does.

It's a large city, there is loads to do. Plus OP wanted to see her Nan, who is over 90.

Mumwithbaggage · 05/08/2023 00:26

Hope you're home safe and sound.

Many years ago I couldn't find the car keys at home. DH worked abroad so I was on my own and he had the spare on his house keys (I know!). I had to transport the 3 kids one at a time up the hill the 2 or so miles to school and pre school in my pre kids 2 seater while leaving at least one child home alone hoping they didn't fight. We're very rural. After a few days I said has ANYONE seen the car keys? DS piped up, "Yes, I put them in the Weetabix box." He's 27 in November - still not sure I've forgiven him entirely!!

Isthismynamenow · 05/08/2023 00:37

Hope you sleep well OP
