If a workman was attending for a quote and said he'd be there 'around 2pm' what bracket of time is acceptable to you?

OP posts:
saraclara · 03/08/2023 14:36

Between 1:30 and 3:00

MyrtleSmurf · 03/08/2023 14:36

Between 1.45 and 2.15 I'd say!

ForeverYellow · 03/08/2023 14:37

This

slowsundays · 03/08/2023 14:37

Between 1:45 and 2:15.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 03/08/2023 14:37

Any time from 1:50-2:25. Of course they may be held up. I'd hope they'd ring but understand if it wasn't possible.

Roughly this.

MoonLion · 03/08/2023 14:37

I'd expect him to let me know if he was going to be earlier than 1.30 or later than 3pm.

TokyoSushi · 03/08/2023 14:38

About 1:45 to 215 although I'd expert later rather than earlier.

Honeypickle · 03/08/2023 14:38

Definitely not before 2, but 2-2.20, any later is being late.

TheInterceptor · 03/08/2023 14:38

Depends. In Cornwall it could be any time until 6pm. Dreckly.

JaukiVexnoydi · 03/08/2023 14:39

In our most recent case, it means 17:30 the following day.

OhHeyBabe · 03/08/2023 14:39

I agree with 1.30-3

MrsFarmerTom · 03/08/2023 14:40

"Around" suggests "within 30 minutes either way" to me.
How early/ late was he, OP? 😆

Iknowthis1 · 03/08/2023 14:41

In my experience it means hopefully sometime this week but maybe never 😟

Well he's still not here! Tried phoning, no answer.

This is the most likely outcome

HarridanHarvestingHeldaBeans · 03/08/2023 14:46

In normal places, maybe 1.30 to 4pm. Where I live (Far corner of the Highlands) it probably means some time before Christmas.

HonoriaLucastaDelagardie · 03/08/2023 14:47

I'd take it to mean 'as near 2.00 as I can make it'. If he meant any time up to 3.00, I'd expect him to say 'between 2 and 3'. 3.00 isn't 'around 2pm'.

BigBeeee · 03/08/2023 14:47

1.30 - 2.30

mummabubs · 03/08/2023 14:51

Before having to get lots of trades in for quotes I'd have said 1:45-2:30 for a "2ish" quote. From my now large bucket of experience I'd say any time between 1-8pm.

I've got in a habit now of explicitly telling people to message me on the day before they leave to get here, as I got utterly fed up of staying in/ having to keep cooped-up young children entertained with no clue of when someone was actually coming. And those are the ones who show up, sadly I've also had plenty of experience of people just not showing up at all to quote.

Cherryflavouranything · 03/08/2023 14:51

If they said “I’ll try and be there around 2” they’ll definitely not show up. Try means not happening.

If they said “I’ll be there around 2” then any time up to 6pm but defo not before 2:30.
