If a workman was attending for a quote and said he'd be there 'around 2pm' what bracket of time is acceptable to you?

OP posts:
UsingChangeofName · 03/08/2023 16:38

1.45 - 2.30

Anything outside of that, I would be expecting a phone call.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/08/2023 16:39

1.45 - 2.30 I’d say

I would also try to reconfirm a more precise time slot on the day though

ChocolateCinderToffee · 03/08/2023 16:39

I once phoned a trader to see where he'd got to at 20 minutes past the time he'd said, and he clearly thought I'd lost my mind.

It's a different world to them. These days if they get there within the hour, I count it as a win.

GnomeDePlume · 03/08/2023 16:45

When DH was an electrician he would amuse himself by ringing the doorbell at precisely the time he had said he would arrive. Said he would get a lot if shocked looks!

GoodChat · 03/08/2023 16:45

13:30-14:30 for me

Imanalias · 03/08/2023 16:47

RainRainPissOff · 03/08/2023 16:32

1.30 - 2.30

Ditto. After that, it's "around 3", until 3.30, then "around 4", etc.
I can't believe a tradesperson can't spare 2 minutes to advise if they're running late. We can't all sit around at home waiting.

A wile back I had someone come and quote me for a job at a p/h rate + materials. I wa shappy with that- he'd arrived on time and been very precise with everything. Three times I contacted him to ask when he could do the job and he never replied. Haven't got round to asking anyone else yet, but, had he said he had a lot of work and could commit, or, it'd be at leat a month before he could start I'd have been fine. Just the complete absence of response after coming and quoting really pissed me off.

Rainbowshit · 03/08/2023 16:47

2-4

phoenixrosehere · 03/08/2023 16:52

1:50pm - 2:10pm

For a tradesman I would be happy if they turned up in 2023!!!

fitofthegiggles · 03/08/2023 16:57

Did he ever arrive op?

Sewaccidentprone · 03/08/2023 17:00

Possibly sometime that afternoon. Or maybe not at all. Ring and no answer, text and you may get a response sometime later with some kind of excuse…. Family emergency is the usual one. Will offer to come round again and then not turn up, at which point you give up and start again.

unless….. the tradesperson has been personally recommended by a close friend or relative and they have regular contact with the or used them recently ie within the last 2 weeks.

thats my current experience.

or….I’m on my mobile, I’ll get the office to ring you back to set up an appointment. Never heard from again.

PoshPineapple · 03/08/2023 17:02

I lived in Spain for years, so about 2 days either side of 2pm!

Carpediemmakeitcount · 03/08/2023 17:10

I would say a reasonable time for a trademark is between 5 and 6pm. They work for themselves and they can't just walk away from money that they know they will get. I would say after 5 but before 6pm.

fartfacenotfatface · 03/08/2023 17:11

I would want them to come between 1:30-2:45 if they said 'about 2pm'.
But based on my own experience of dealing with workmen, if they actually rocked up at any time on the expected day, I'd be surprised pleased.

What's acceptable to me, i.e. 1.45 - 2.15, would bear absolutely no relation to the time he actually turned up, which would be after 4.30 or not at all.

Carpediemmakeitcount · 03/08/2023 17:14

I have had more luck getting them over on a Saturday or Sunday a lot of tradesman don't work over the weekends. Good luck 🤞

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 03/08/2023 17:16

I’d assume between 1.45 and 2.15 but realistically I’d expect anything between 1.30 & 2.30 unless I heard otherwise.

RuthW · 03/08/2023 17:18

Between 1.55 and 2.05

motherofawhirlwind · 03/08/2023 17:25

MoonLion · 03/08/2023 14:37

I'd expect him to let me know if he was going to be earlier than 1.30 or later than 3pm.

This

TenoringBehind · 03/08/2023 17:33

1:50-2:10 and a text if he was going to be any later than this

HalloumiLuvver · 03/08/2023 17:34

OhmygodDont · 03/08/2023 16:02

I think tradie time like husband pints numbers.

They are magical mythological numbers that mean nothing. Like chicken maths.

Yep.

For an average person, around 2 would be 1.45-2.15

For trades, make that any time the same week if you're very lucky.

LlynTegid · 03/08/2023 17:48

I'd expect a call if it got to 2.15 and for whatever reason he or she was going to be later than that.

timenowplease · 03/08/2023 18:00

For me around 2pm would be 15 mins either way. Anything else is 1.30 or 2.30. In which case I'd expect someone to say I'll be there around 1.30 or I'll be there around 2.30.

Well if he's anything like someone I'm dealing with at the moment it might be a month's time.

It's not an emergency luckily and we've not paid him.

Dombasle · 03/08/2023 18:18

Between 2.00pm and 4.00pm
