Furry sliders

Why the hate? I have a visceral reaction to them but can't explain it. I really dislike sliders in general, but as before not sure why?

OP posts:
Angryappendix · 02/08/2023 12:08

They just look a bit Katie Price tacky or like slippers worn outside the house.

I think furry sliders = live, life, laugh, love written somewhere on wall at home, extra long fake nails and lip fillers.

Newname211 · 02/08/2023 12:08

As slippers - great.

They make no sense for outdoor wear though. If it’s warm enough to wear sliders, I don’t want fur on them.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 02/08/2023 12:50

Op , your post could have been written by me - I despise them and I don't know why - And this is coming from someone who is ok with Crocs (on the beach or in the house or garden though).

5128gap · 02/08/2023 12:56

Because they look like slippers and we haven't adjusted to the new use of 'furry mules' as outdoor footwear.
I remember the first time I saw leggings (yup I'm that old!) Couldn't conceive of why people were wearing the equivalent of thick tights with a long top and no skirt. See also visible bras and thongs. You'll get desensitised eventually OP.

SoupDragon · 02/08/2023 12:59

I always think it looks like the person is wearing slippers.

Comefromaway · 02/08/2023 12:59

To me sliders are something that you wear when you don't want to wear shoes but don't want bare feet. The only people I know who actually wear them are campers and teenagers!

So for example on the beach instead of flip flops, at the gym class in between the changing room and studio, in the communal shower areas/kitchen of a student hall of residence with potentially mucky floors.

In none of those scenarios would fur be appropriate.

SoupDragon · 02/08/2023 12:59

I don't hate them though, they make me laugh.

ManateeFair · 02/08/2023 13:00

I will happily wear them indoors as slippers - in fact, I much prefer mine to slippers as they have a chunkier sole than slippers and a bit of arch support, so for me they're much more comfortable. I get plantar fasciitis from thin-soled slippers. I have two pairs of Ugg slides/sandals and as slippers, they're absolutely brilliant for me.

BUT I'd never wear them out of the house as shoes/sandals, ever! Each to their own, but there's something about the thought of faux fur on a shoe, getting all manky and collecting grime and getting wet, that makes me cringe. Probably completely irrational on my part (as obviously all shoes collect grime anyway, fur or no fur) but the very thought of strolling around the shops with something furry on my feet makes me feel sticky and grubby. Horrible!

No judgement if other people wear them as shoes - totally up to them and I'm not someone who gets worked up about other people's clothes or choices that don't affect me. But I would personally would never.

Riapia · 02/08/2023 13:53

Just another name for mules, mostly used by pretentious people.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 04/08/2023 03:42

Even without the fur, teens wear them outdoors with socks 😭 - What is happening?

AngeloMysterioso · 04/08/2023 03:56

Absolutely can’t stand them, they’re fucking hideous.

StellaLaBella · 04/08/2023 04:26

Crocs are shady fucks, was brought to the dark side after unthinkingly slipping my feet into my daughter's to bring out the bins... those wee massaging blissful bastards.

Sidebar: will never not laugh at "sport mode" activation. Or ever wear them in public.

But furry sliders - fuck no. I prefer my slippers without a side of Athlete's Foot thanks Envy

steff13 · 04/08/2023 04:36

Do y'all call them sliders? Here we just call them slides. A slider is a tiny cheeseburger. This thread is much different than I thought it was going to be when I opened it.

Devilsmommy · 04/08/2023 04:54

Finally, I thought I was the only one! I absolutely hate sliders, furry or not. I've always cringed at them and as a pp said, wearing them with socks wtaf??? Give me flip flops any day

thatsn0tmyname · 04/08/2023 06:31

Because they're usually accompanied by skin tight nude dresses, orange skin, lip fillers and greasy scraped back hair.

whirlyhead · 04/08/2023 06:46

They aren’t as bad as crocs. I don’t care how comfortable crocs are, they are the most hideous thing people can put on their feet and should be outlawed.

1WayOnly · 04/08/2023 06:48

Furry sliders out of the house looks unhygienic.
Furry sliders as house slippers are absolutely fine - cute even. Good rigid supportive sole with soft upper grip what's not to love?
Some people hate crocs with a visceral reaction so it takes all sorts.

1WayOnly · 04/08/2023 06:50

It's also slovenly like wearing pyjamas outdoors or going out in your hair bonnet or curlers in. Trashy.

Devilsmommy · 04/08/2023 13:19

thatsn0tmyname · 04/08/2023 06:31

Because they're usually accompanied by skin tight nude dresses, orange skin, lip fillers and greasy scraped back hair.

Too true 🤣🤣🤣🤣

D20 · 04/08/2023 13:24

Around my area they are worn with skin tight pastel mini dresses but inexplicably with cropped fur coat on top. Fur coat = winter, sandals = summer surely?

they look like they’ve stepped in a present the cat brought in.

Feeling the love for crocs though 😆

CoffeandTiaMaria · 04/08/2023 13:42

they look like they’ve stepped in a present the cat brought in or that you’re wearing a dead animal on your feet…

BrightYellowDaffodil · 04/08/2023 14:00

Sliders/slides/whatever are fine when they’re being worn at the side of a pool or at the beach. Wearing them with socks anywhere, however, looks as naff as fuck and should be criminalised.

florisse · 04/08/2023 14:18

Because sliders are warm weather footwear, and fur isn't. They're a walking oxymoron. So people west them with socks when it's not warm, which looks like shit. Also they're usually worn (round my way) with casual clothing, which looks ridiculous because they're furry and therefore not casual. So they're just a big old contradiction... Grin

CherryMaDeara · 04/08/2023 14:21

They’re great for the home, I don’t care what they look like.

Would never wear them out.

RoyalImpatience · 04/08/2023 14:34

Instant thought, tacky.

I would wear them in house not outside
