Do ottoman beds break easily?

Buying a new bed for our new house and desperately need all the storage I can get and so I was going to go for an ottoman bed with under bed storage but my mum says everyone she knows has had their ottoman bed break (including her own).

Do ottoman beds break easily/quickly?

YABU - yes they break easily
YANBU - no they don't break easily

Not in my experience. I've four. Had them for years and never had any problem. The cheapest one was from Next and that's one has been ok too. There is a big difference in quality between cheaper and more expensive ones.

I like ones with extra deep bases.

I think it probably depends on the brand you buy and your budget. I have an amazing one from Sueno and it’s in as good a shape as it was when I bought it 5 years ago.

I’ve got this one. Delivery and service was excellent. It was a 2 man delivery and they assembled it in situ.

Had ours 8 years and never had a problem with it. Best thing we bought as we are so short on storage

Had one 20 years and another 4 years. No problems. Not sure how they would break?

We have two main brand ottoman beds - one end lift, and one side lift - and have never had any problems - they are both great!

Thanks, I have ordered the ottoman bed.

It is from Next and not at all cheap (at least for me it was quite expensive!) and so I am hoping it is good quality!

maybe it depends on whether you use it as a trampoline or not?
I've got a wooden one, had it about ten years and its fine - I replaced the mattress earlier this year, but the base itself is fine.

Ones with a platform top are stronger than the ones with sprung slats.
We’ve had our platform top one for 6 years and it’s solid.

We have had two from here, a double for ds(19) (6 years ago) and a single (2 years ago) and both are still like new. They are not a sprung base, it is a solid wood top (but we dont find that a problem with a deep mattress), they are ok to lift/open but the bed itself is very heavy to move. Masses of storage room underneath.

How do they break?

We have one from Dreams that is going strong after fourteen years. It was our bed for a while and is now the guest bed.

I bought the cheapest one going and its been a good 6 years and still fine.

I've had my current ottoman bed for 12 years. I've replaced the mattress but everything else is still going strong.

My parents one is still going strong. But ours went about 3 years ago.
Both brought together in 2015.
Ours was taken apart a few times for moves. While there's has never moved.
We ended up back with solid wooden pine bed frames ourselves.

I have always had divan beds with built in drawers. At least then you can easily access things without removing all the bedding. I'm not sure I would trust an Ottoman mechanism on a bed especially with young children around.

You don't need to remove the bedding to access the storage. I'm always under there 🤣

Our bed is a divan with drawers but we can only use two of the four because of our bedside tables. I don’t find them that practical. Ottomans are great.

You don’t remove the bedding. You just lift the whole thing up, pillows, duvet and all!

We've got an old one from my parents house that they bought in the 80s and it's still going strong (new mattress and headboard!) Storage is excellent.
