No wonder the rest of the world laughs at us Brits moaning about the weather

Just seen a clip on BBC news of an Asian bride walking down a flooded aisle after a typhoon. Everyone is smiling and just getting on with it.

Yet we are moaning about a bit of rain at the moment. We really have no resilience and considering our weather is going to get more dramatic, we need to change our mindset and coping strategies.

What? We can’t complain about the weather? Says who?

Vettrianofan · 01/08/2023 07:15

I agree. What a bunch of Debbie Downers. Just get on with your day, get out and embrace it.

Being stuck indoors for me is more stressful. I can't cope.

TroysMammy · 01/08/2023 07:16

I only wish the rain was warmer.

Fatkittythinkitty · 01/08/2023 07:16

I am very resilient thanks. I don't think that means you can't moan though? It's not like everything stops because of the rain is it? I still go out in it, run in it, life goes on as normal. But I absolutely will moan about it.

LaDeeDa123 · 01/08/2023 07:17

Also, if you go on SM you’ll see loads of photos of people in the UK getting married in the rain and still having a great time.

FrivolousTreeDuck · 01/08/2023 07:18

Moaning about something doesn't mean you have no resilience. It's a coping strategy.

Natsku · 01/08/2023 07:19

Complaining about the weather is a national pastime though

BabyStopCryin · 01/08/2023 07:20

I’m from Scotland. Rain? Feh.

Cheesusisgrate · 01/08/2023 07:21

I think it may be morw be a no matter what weathwr, there are moans😁
Rainy and old? Ugh, the weather, wiah sun would comw out fgs
Sunny and warm? Ugh the weather, ould use bit of cloud.

Plus 25 degrees and public health warnings might do that too?

Vettrianofan · 01/08/2023 07:21

BabyStopCryin · 01/08/2023 07:20

Exactly. We just are so used to it🤣

Yep, complaining about the weather and drinking tea is what we are known for. Why shouldn't we follow our culture

Gtry · 01/08/2023 07:23

Nearly everyone who complains has 'no reason' to then as someone is nearly always worse off. Also a lot of people aren't really complaining as such, they're just making conversation and it's something easy to 'bond' over.

Cheesusisgrate · 01/08/2023 07:23

Don't foeget most world hears news basically only from important parts of England as well. And probably most of uk in national news, not local ones.

sashagabadon · 01/08/2023 07:23

Moaning is a sign of resilience. Weeping and wailing isn’t

CountZacular · 01/08/2023 07:23

But what would we moan about if not the weather? We are known for keeping a stiff upper lip about real issues - we need to get our frustration out by discussing the weather. It’s what we do. That’s real resilience in action!

MRex · 01/08/2023 07:24

You might find the bride is smiling despite the flooded aisle, and not because of it. Smiling through adversity is great, and a good whinge about the rain/ snow/ heat is one of the world's greatest icebreakers too.

IglesiasPiggl · 01/08/2023 07:27

The whole "someone else is worse off" doesn't really alter how I feel about my personal situation on any given day.

Proofinthepudding · 01/08/2023 07:28

OK I'm talking about people on here cancelling holidays as the weather is making them 'anxious'. It's embarrassing.

Colleagues in the US used to make fun of me complaining about the heat because it was so much hotter there - until they realized we don't have air conditioning and they too would have been complaining if their home office was 27 degrees and no air con.

Moaning is ok. I find it more tedious reading sanctimonious hypocrites complaining about people complaining honestly. Yes, someone always has it worse. If that was the bar for complaint or discussion no one could ever discuss anything.

qabsmep · 01/08/2023 07:32

People are allowed to have feelings OP. It's okay for someone else to feel upset about something that you can just get on with. You shouldn't try to dictate people's feelings and emotions, it's not your place to do that.

Roselilly36 · 01/08/2023 07:32

Brit’s not complaining about the weather, is a bit like telling them not to breathe. Weather is a national obsession and is passed down through the generations. It’s a conversation starter too. Whatever the weather too cold, too rainy, too hot. We love to talk about it, me included. 😂

DDivaStar · 01/08/2023 07:33

I'm perfectly resilient. Yesterday we went to our local zoo and made the best of it in our raincoats. Of course I'd rather it was dry or even sunny so we could make full use of the activities without being cold and wet. Today its sunny but I didnt have a choice to go out today as yesterday was my day off work.

LaDeeDa123 · 01/08/2023 07:34

Are you one of those people who is still mad about Brexit OP and has spent the past years hating the UK? As a remainer with lexiteer sympathies I don’t know how those people function. They have the gold medal in moaning so if that’s you, it’s a bit rich to be embarrassed by other people’s moaning.

Plumbear2 · 01/08/2023 07:34

So OP is moaning about people moaning about the weather 🙄😆😆😆

Do you perhaps mean people who cancelled holidays due to 40+ heat and forest fires? If so, then you don't understand the issue with extreme heat. A holiday is supposed to be fun, overheating and a risk of evacuation are not fun.
