No wonder the rest of the world laughs at us Brits moaning about the weather

Just seen a clip on BBC news of an Asian bride walking down a flooded aisle after a typhoon. Everyone is smiling and just getting on with it.

Yet we are moaning about a bit of rain at the moment. We really have no resilience and considering our weather is going to get more dramatic, we need to change our mindset and coping strategies.

Nah, we just like a whinge. It's one of the few things we can whinge about without it being controversial and upsetting people.

Mostly.

Give it time and I'm sure someone will find having a moan about the weather offensive and people will start being cancelled. Watch out Michael Fish 🤣🤣

This. My SIL is Australian. Her family live in Perth. They think its hilarious that she will talk about having a BBQ if it's nice but have a plan B if its throwing it down. In Australia if you plan BBQ on the beach ,you just have one. We don't have their weather. We have to have a plan B. Very few things here are capable of killing us. Every damn thing in Australia is capable of killing you. They moan about that. We moan about the weather

I am in Perth, and canceled a bbq last week as it was chucking it down! But its the middle of winter here, what you are saying is correct for nine months of the year. I don't know anyone here who is laughing at the UK (except over Brexit) but I do often have people asking me about how crap British weather is and how do you stand it? I just say why do you think there are so many British and Irish in Perth? We don't moan about the dangerous creatures though, apart from the magpies (we don't really have drop bears on the West Coast).

I work with 2 Polish ladies, they talk about the weather and moan about the rain more than I do. The weather is their most talked about topic.

YANBU such a miserable bunch of selfish bastards.

List the moans on mn alone. Weather, kids, dogs, money, mils, some people would moan if they won the lottery!

Sure are you are doing what exactly?

CloudyMcCloud · 01/08/2023 10:04

Which reminds me there are some posters who spend so much time moaning about the British on every thread they can.

A worse trait for sure.

No different when posters are moaning about other countries especially the Americans.

And you think they didn't complain about it, worry what they were going to do about the wedding, panic about guests getting there, etc?

You're seeing a snapshot video of a very very small sort of that day and nothing of the run up to it.

It’s always the same few. Every thread.

middleager · 01/08/2023 11:37

Oh bore off OP with the Brit bashing.

HeidioftheAlps · 01/08/2023 11:42

What do you think British people do if it rains on their wedding day?. They get on with it and enjoy it as much as they can. Idiotic post.

MaxwellCat · 01/08/2023 11:51

TroysMammy · 01/08/2023 07:16

I only wish the rain was warmer.

Me too... we could get a rain tan! Like a sun tan with first degree scald burns.

DancingInTheRaindrops · 01/08/2023 17:04

We have become a nation addicted to complaining and MN is proof of that.

Missingmyusername · 01/08/2023 17:08

SoupDragon · 01/08/2023 09:38

An observation not a moan. 😆

ShoesoftheWorld · 01/08/2023 17:26

Germans consider themselves to have a reputation for complaining about the weather. I've a client at the other end of Germany and we often start our emails to each other with 'hope you're coping in this heat' or 'urgh, rain and wind, hope it brightens up for you'.

I do think Brits can be a bit feeble about heat (the moderate kind, not the dangerous kind), and always boggle at the idea that 23°C+ is 'hot'. But complaining about the weather is a social lubricant, as it's a safe topic.

Poppysmom22 · 01/08/2023 17:45

ROFL it's a cultural thing we drink tea, moan about the weather and stand in a queue even if we don't know what it's for. It's the British way.
