Asda? I grew to love the rock hard peaches but this week they are disappointingly sweet and juicy.

Barrell · 31/07/2023 13:06

The problem with avocados is that they’re only ripe and ready for about 30 seconds.

BarrelOfOtters · 31/07/2023 13:07

M&S…so expensive rock hard fruit.

Wasn't sure what I would find clicking on this thread.. Relieved it was about fruit..

Daphnis156 · 31/07/2023 13:30

Best not to bother with fruit.
Crisps are less disappointing.
And doughnuts.

M4J4 · 31/07/2023 13:30

Do you just pick up a bag without checking?

I ignore the rock hard and mushy ones and go for the good ones.

Generally I get it right, with a few mistakes.

Same😂

You have to give them all a good feel unfortunately and think about when you want to use them.

Avoid super soft avocados as they’re probably rotting inside, avoid super hard and green unless you want to wait several days. If you want to eat same day or the next day go for the ones that you can lightly squish with your finger and leave a little dint.

They take the piss...

Florissante · 31/07/2023 13:41

Avocadoes are evil, malignant, little so-and-sos. You get one that is just ripe and ready to eat, you turn your back to get a knife and they deliberately go off and get mushy. In seconds.

Bluevelvetsofa · 31/07/2023 13:42

Where are all the yellow flesh peaches? They look as if they’re yellow skinned, but they’re white inside and too perfumey and less robust.

shivawn · 31/07/2023 13:45

I immediately knew from the thread title that this was going to be about avacados!

JoeyRamoney · 31/07/2023 13:46

Are these the donut peaches? I give all supermarket fruit a very gentle tentative squeeze before purchasing.

Sometimes the super hard avos never ripen. I bought some yellow stickered large ones in Asda for 10p each a month ago, they’re still rock hard in the fridge.

Maybe I should take them out…

Lakeyloo · 31/07/2023 14:02

Avocado, peaches, plums, pears, nectarines.... all go from rock hard to mouldy and squishy in the 10 minutes I forget to give them a little squeeze to see if they are ready in our house. That's why I just buy chocolate now. Never lets me down.

This is true, I had this with a bag of 7 from Morrisons ages ago, they were like green rocks forever!

My first thought was nectarines. Nearly broke a tooth biting into one the other day.

Saturnssister · 31/07/2023 14:07

I wonder why most avocados nowadays are the hass variety, which are either hard or ripe for 30 seconds before they turn to brown squish. I like the other avocados, With the green shiny skin, which go all buttery slowly.

doris9034 · 31/07/2023 14:07

Kiwi fruit fall into this category too - hard, hard, hard, hard, wrinkled up........

Coastalcreeksider · 31/07/2023 14:10

Pears! I've given up buying them now as some just never ripen. Weeks go by and they are still hard.

Am usually OK with avocados though.

Pix56 · 31/07/2023 14:11

Thread title is disappointing

ErrolTheDragon · 31/07/2023 14:12

Buying fruit that needs some home ripening is fine, but why are they allowed to sell unripe fruit as 'ripe and ready'?Confused

Careful OP - this could be misconstrued as an offer 😂

trifftrev · 31/07/2023 14:20

Avo's - the Russian roulette of fruit.

HeadacheEarthquake · 31/07/2023 14:25

The title was exciting ! Then I clicked :/
