So FUCKING sick of printers

Why the fuck do they never work? I'm so sick of this shit. We can find a covid vaccine but nobody has been able to create a printer that actually, you know, fucking works?

I'm especially really sick to the bloody back teeth of "HP Smart". Why does this app exist and why does it force me to sign in when I just qant to do some basic bitch task like photocopy something. And now my printer isn't working again so clearly not that Smart are you?

Just seriously sick of printers, every time there's some "Issue", companies need to get their shit together. Latest one has WiFi apparently, but does it work? No, it fucking doesn't. That's fine I guess I'll just a cable like its the 80s

We have a local computer firm that picks up the naughty ones from there an daprts then out and gives to local schools etc

I used to teach a subject that had lots of A3 colour sheets of coursework😭now l know why the bastards never worked!

The stress of 60 kids trying to print out coursework at the last minute was a bloody nightmare. The printers would just deliberately stop working.

DRS1970 · 29/07/2023 16:46

You really do get what you pay for with printers.

Jeffjefftyjeff · 29/07/2023 16:50

I hate printers. I hate buying them, reading the useless user manuals, pop ups about ink, being told to use their app, nothing working etc etc etc

cocksstrideintheevening · 29/07/2023 16:54

We've got an HP ENVY - the irony. No one would envy it. the bastard thing just doesnt work. I've given up.

Medsy · 29/07/2023 16:59

OK I started this thread because I was fuming and needed to rant and now I've just given up and feeling more chilled. Non rhetorical question though: why is this so hard? Surely it's a pretty basic concept so why are low/mid range printers so bad? If they're causing fhis many issues then maybe they need to rethink the core design.

They have. Get a laser printer.

megletthesecond · 29/07/2023 17:05

Yanbu. Mine goes through phases of only working if I restart my laptop after I've hit print.

I have had a small breakthrough though and started using cheap amazon colour cartridges instead of stupidly expensive Canon own brand. Funnily enough my printer has survived.

Thunderpunt · 29/07/2023 17:05

HP and all who sail in her are cunts of the highest order

Printer offline
Inks not compatible
Open HP smart app - can't find printer.
Can't connect to Wi-Fi
Printer offline
Rinse and repeat

The only thing that stops me lobbing it out of the window is the chance that it will bounce and hit my car

Medsy · 29/07/2023 17:08

@Thunderpunt
Yeah, I'm sad to say I slapped it before giving up. I hurt my hand

I mainly use mine for printing stuff for dn. I post stuff online using QR codes.

nottoday300 · 29/07/2023 17:15

Ours drove my son (23) near to tears ! I had to step in !! Fucking things !!

Allmarbleslost · 29/07/2023 17:21

Oh I hear you op. Our HP (not so fucking) Smart declares that it has no paper every single time I try to use it. 10 bloody minutes of putting paper in and out again mostly sorts it.

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 29/07/2023 17:30

I could have done your post word for word last week
We changed Internet provider.
Fucking thing.

RandomMess · 29/07/2023 17:37

I only do printing at work (I can pay to add credit) over Covid the DC insisted.

I left it all to them and DH.

Haven't touched the fucker.

Mrstwiddle · 29/07/2023 17:38

Are laser printers more reliable then? I've always thought they're a lot more expensive, but if they're reliable it would be worth it.

I have a HP too, I bought it 2nd hand for £5 and I overpaid :(

ChristmasCurry · 29/07/2023 17:43

Kyocera Mono Laser Printer with a wired network connection to my router, works every time and I can also use it as scanner which has also ever had an issue.

Inkjets are the spawn of Satan.

ChristmasCurry · 29/07/2023 17:43

ever = never

Why are you still using a printer, are you MN from the 90s?

I’m a gran from ancient times. I often need a printer. I print photos on A4 plain paper to use for art work which is a great aid. I print things I wish to keep like letters from hospital etc. All sorts of things but I also photograph old photos which turn out sharper than the originals. They are stored in “photos”which is handy as easier to locate. We are all different especially as the modern age moves so fast. For example not many use sat nav’s these days. No doubt there will be a day when printers are difficult to find just as recorders for the tv ( now that shows how very old I am). Oh! To be young like you 👍

NotLovingWFH · 29/07/2023 17:51

We have an HP one I think and as long as we pay the monthly fee they send us new ink as and when we need it and seems to work ok. I’m scared to cancel the subscription and just buy cartridges from Tesco because I’m pretty sure it will stop working so we just carry on, we’ve probably paid a fortune for very little actual printing.

starfishmummy · 29/07/2023 17:55

Mines ancient as in attachment he's to the computer with a wire...I know. HVe to use it with our equally ancient laptop as I can't find any drivers for it for our newer PC. But while there's life in it, and I can find cartridges I'm hanging on to it!

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 29/07/2023 18:07

Plump82 · 29/07/2023 16:41

I didn't realise with the deal you get for ink cartridge replacements that if you cancelled the subscriber (which I did as I don't use it enough) that the current ink I have stops working. Even it's more or less full. Furious and refuse to spend £20 odd on a new one to print one page of something. I have a printer place round the corner that prints things for 15p so my printer is currently collecting dust.

I didn't know this! Bloody HELL that explains a lot!

brokenlore · 29/07/2023 18:12

Mine is n Epson eco tank thing (you can refill the cartridges so less landfill) but

  1. constantly tells me I'm out of ink when I an see I over half full
  2. every time I refil the cartridges it's woks for a bit and then splurges ink everywhere even though I the bloody expensive proper Epsom refills, then woks properly for a few pages and then tell me the ink is empty...even though it clearly isn't...too blood clever for its own good.
