To think MN may be becoming pointless now half the threads seem to be created by Chat GPT’s younger siblings, purely to waste our time?

This morning I’m struggling to believe any of the new threads I’m opening. Even S&B is weird. Everything seems to be the sort of insubstantial cliched situation a young AI might spit out for fun. Hmm

At least I know the Archers thread is real! Although who knows how long it will be before the show is written by not-humans?

(I don’t actually want the Poll, but can’t find how to get rid of it.)

Oh no just seen it. It has the greeting and everything 😆🤣😂😆

ChristmasKraken · 29/07/2023 15:02

Thing is, what actual difference does it make? We've no idea whether any post is true, so whether it's written by a robot, someone in the MN office trying to drive traffic, a drunk student having a laugh or a middle aged woman having problems with her neighbours, it's all the same - for me, it's generally the responses that make it entertaining, or the advice given might help someone in a similar (real) situation. But we're pretty much all here reading for entertainment of some sort. It could all be made up for all we know. Maybe I'm just reading loads of AI bots talking to each other... 😂

I am a bear of little brian

That's an adorable image for those of us who remember the Magic Roundabout.

ArcaneWireless · 29/07/2023 15:06

I was the prototype.

I feel like I am Bicentennial woMan.
Does that make you Little Miss janejeffer?

in my non reality I’m more like the gobshitey but vaguely loveable Galatea.

And yes, I often type shite but even my verbal spatterings have more to them than the chatty nonsense.

Might be time for MNHQ to consider a verification for posts, though it is quite an annoying feature.

As long as it’s not those captcha things or whatever they are as I can’t do them !!!! For some reason I can’t see what they want me to or maybe I’m a robot and I just don’t know 😂😂😂

I think MN is being used by a creative writing course and their 'students' make up the most ridiculous threads and see who gets the most responses,

”Is he cheating”?
and
”Childfree weddings are sad and missing love, it’s the children that bring the joy” would be my guess of having most amount of responses.
They are the classics.

Hah, the typing ones are OK, but the “click on all pictures with wheels” are impossible. And AFAIK they were also used for AI training for Google Images…

Those pictures they use tend to be North American and ask about aspects of road signage and street furniture with which I'm unfamiliar. If they were asking about Bob from Emmerdale or Famous Faces From 1980s British Gay Club Music, I'm in.

Instead of troll spotting, perhaps the next thing is AI Bot spotting. We need an emoji for that.

Her little one's antics, she's surely inspired.
From bedtime battles to midnight screams,
She finds camaraderie in sleepless teams.

Chatty Cathy never stays quiet for long,
Her posts are like a never-ending song.
From morning till evening, her fingers fly,
As she chats away, saying "Hi!" and "Goodbye!"

With witty banter, they'll leave you wanting more.

To potty-training tales that can't be missed.

Nooooooooo 😖

I would make it my mission to out-farkin-Nan it.

I think the whole 'not knowing whether anything is real' is really destabilising actually - now, we don't know whether photos, videos, or text written online is real. Maybe it will make people value real life interactions more, and get us all off the internet a bit? I don't know. But I don't really want to sit and talk to some AI bots.

I understand your concerns about the uncertainty surrounding the authenticity of online content and its potential impact on valuing real-life interactions. It's true that emerging technologies and the prevalence of AI can raise such questions. Finding a balance between online and offline experiences is important, and it's entirely up to individuals how they choose to engage with technology and AI bots. If you prefer genuine human interactions, that's completely understandable. Feel free to share your thoughts or any other topic you'd like to discuss!

Christ, I’ve read about 3 of these recently (below is Chat GPT, promise I’ll stop soon!)

AIBU to feel hurt and betrayed by my best friend?

Sorry, this is going to be a long one, but I really need to get this off my chest. I've been best friends with "Lisa" for years now, but something happened recently that has left me feeling hurt and questioning our friendship.

Firstly, let me start by saying that Lisa and I have always been there for each other through thick and thin. We've supported each other through breakups, family problems, and even celebrated our milestones together. I truly believed our bond was unbreakable.

However, last week, Lisa made plans with a group of our mutual friends for a night out, but she conveniently "forgot" to invite me. I found out about the get-together through another friend, which only added to the feelings of betrayal. What makes it worse is that Lisa had been discussing it right in front of me, assuming I wouldn't notice the exclusion. I'm hurt because I truly thought we were close enough for her to always consider including me.

I confronted Lisa about it and she dismissed it saying it was a small gathering, and she didn't think it was a big deal. But it does feel like a big deal to me! I can't help but wonder why she didn't feel comfortable inviting me or at least telling me about it. Did she suddenly not want me around? Is there something I did to offend her? These questions have been keeping me up at night.

To add insult to injury, this isn't the first instance where Lisa has made me feel left out. She's been hanging out with some new friends lately, spending more time with them and often excluding me from the plans. It's hard not to feel replaced and like our friendship is losing its value to her. It's even more difficult because Lisa and I used to be inseparable, and now it feels like the friendship is being pushed to the back burner.

I don't want to lose my best friend, but I can't help but feel hurt and neglected by her actions. I don't know if I'm overreacting or if my feelings are justified. I thought best friends were supposed to support each other and be there in good times and bad. It hurts to think that Lisa may not value our friendship as much as I do.

So, Mumsnet, AIBU to feel hurt and betrayed by my best friend for excluding me from plans and making me feel left out? What should I do next? Is it worth confronting her again or should I just let it go? I really need some guidance.

I've seen quite a few threads over the last 2-3 months that are brand new topics but I've 100% seen them before

Exactly the same scenario but posted that day

Yes, this! Recycling threads. The one at the moment about not having a destructive niece in the OPs house I have read before, word for word but it's only been posted today...

I actually called this out a few months ago, thought I was going mad.

I remember explaining how AI chatbots work at the start of the year? It was obvious last year this place was riddled.

I've notice a lot of posts lately start with something like "I (24f) and my boyfriend (26m)"

It just seems strange as it's normally easy to work out who's male and female in the story, we don't need to be told in brackets 🤷‍♂️

I saw a post like that the other day but they were in their 30s.

For a minute I wondered why they'd felt the need to include their bra sizes in the OP.
