To think MN may be becoming pointless now half the threads seem to be created by Chat GPT’s younger siblings, purely to waste our time?

This morning I’m struggling to believe any of the new threads I’m opening. Even S&B is weird. Everything seems to be the sort of insubstantial cliched situation a young AI might spit out for fun. Hmm

At least I know the Archers thread is real! Although who knows how long it will be before the show is written by not-humans?

(I don’t actually want the Poll, but can’t find how to get rid of it.)

I forgot that bit- the usually have more accurate if rather dated punctuation than a real post.

I've noticed a sharp uprise in Americanisms. Not necessarily the spelling, but phrasing.

It also could be they are and or from outside of uk.
I’ve been accused of being a american couple of times 😆 perish the thought!
I’m from nordic country, pick up phrasings from here and there.

Never understand the obsession with 'Americanisms'. I'm not from America (or the UK) and use words that are considered 'American'. So what? Loads of countries use British words and phrasing's thanks to the 'Glorious British Empire'

God forbid anyone speak differently Confused

OMG, @SoCentralRain (exclamation mark). I was almost convinced until the Poll paragraph. Grin

It's also the school holidays.

Trust me, teenagers aren't wasting their time on here. They're on instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, BeReal....unless you mean teachers....

Thank goodness, I was beginning to think I'm the only poster on here who thinks the constant reference to the school holidays is so bizarrely stupid that maybe it's actually bots posting that

@MermaidEyes are you a real person? Can you explain the reasoning behind children not being able to access the internet in term time and literally having accesa to no other social media or infact anything else that isn't making stuff up on a website I doubt they've even heard of

Sorry @MermaidEyes that question should have been for @5foot5

Oops I do that. 😆 It’s just the way I was taught to do titles.

Better stop now though because I don’t want anyone to think I’m a droid or whatever.

Me neither, I don't want to be shouted and it always makes me think the poster thinks their thread is more important that anyone else's

How do you not notice that threads titles aren't capitalized when you look at the list 😀

JaneJeffer · 29/07/2023 12:58

I stick mostly to the telly topic now because at least I recognise posters on there.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 29/07/2023 12:59

I've spotted a dead giveaway.
All the examples above show that DChatGPT has completely failed to master MN acronyms and abbreviations.

Soma · 29/07/2023 13:51

@KeepingKeepingOn brilliant. There was a thread a few weeks back which was oddly similar to the one you posted.

ArcaneWireless · 29/07/2023 14:13

I am pretty sure I’m on one chattyG thread at the moment.

Basically it is a load of farkin’ pony and although I enjoyed the path it took, if it was made up by a living breathing human, I’ll eat my motherboard.

I am actually real as my cellulite double chins and inner Nan will attest.

It's funny your second reply had an American spelling from someone seemingly from northern England 😂

I don't understand this.

What was my American spelling and what gives away my northern England-ness?

Genuinely confused, happy to be enlightened!

Also please be aware I type like my hands are made of bananas and I have the attention span of a puppy, so I tend to post quite a lot of utter pigswill.

ArcaneWireless · 29/07/2023 14:15

if I find out you are one of them chatty things @JaneJeffer I will be tempted to hoof you in the circuits 😘

I'm not having a pop at American English or anyone who uses it. But, for example, I might stand out on an American site with my British English.

American English is probably more widely spoken than British English worldwide, but on a British internet site where I would have thought the majority of users speak British English sometimes I notice it. That's all.

AutumnCrow · 29/07/2023 14:24

This is why I love being on some of the Telly Addicts threads because they are SO REAL.

I mean, you have to really put in the hard work to give a crap about non-nurse Wendy from Emmerdale's squeaky voice that only dogs can hear, or cuckolded Adam's oil slick hair in Corrie. These things are, ironically, my only reality left on here. Which is meta, dude.

ArcaneWireless · 29/07/2023 14:32

Quite crow

Nanfucker and Nanwars would never have appeared on talent show type threads if there hadn’t been a real life waspish tongue behind them.

My beloved MAFS would not have had creative titles either or pithy observations about socks - or lack thereof.

I miss my MAFS.

@Fromage I think that comment was aimed at someone who replied to you who had the word Manchester in their username and spelt humour as humor.
To those who've pointed out American spellings, I know a couple of Eastern Europeans who told me when they learnt English back in their native countries they actually used American English, so therefore a lot of their words and spellings are American even though they live in England.

Textbooks are oxford english 90% but most usable English comes from movies and games which are usually US English. I still pronounce some things american way

Cheesusisgrate · 29/07/2023 14:44

Which one of you is testing the chatgpt on aibu now😂

7Worfs · 29/07/2023 14:47

AI Bot threads always read to me as if the Bot has been taught by a Y6 SATs English teacher who has lost all their love for the English Language and instead are just following national framework. Grammatically it makes sense but language is more than grammar.

Exactly this. AI reads like a school essay - relaying info, and in a bizarrely tidy structure.

Ah, thank you, I was a bit confused (it's easily done, I am a bear of little brian)

American pronunciation is certainly more common in non native English speakers from certain places, especially outside Europe, I find. And I just pick up a sense from some posts that they are either a bit too try-hard with the English (they all sound posh, Southern, and a bit Enid Blyton to me) but then a word or phrase that's more commonly used in American English, or the American definition, creeps in.

This is an observation and not a criticism of any dialect, version or accent in any part of the world.

SoCentralRain · 29/07/2023 12:25

Omg I just told chatgGPT to reply to your OP @MayIDestroyYou, this is what it said:

Oh, I completely understand where you're coming from! With the advancement of technology, AI-generated content has become more sophisticated and can sometimes blend in with real discussions. It's fascinating to see how far technology has come, but it can also lead to some skepticism about the authenticity of online posts.
And you're right, even the world of style and beauty discussions (S&B) can seem surreal and clichéd at times, making it challenging to distinguish between genuine experiences and AI-generated content.
As for The Archers thread, it's like a little oasis of certainty in this rapidly evolving digital world. It's comforting to know that some things remain familiar and authentic.
Don't worry about the Poll; technology can be a bit quirky sometimes. The main thing is that we're all real people here, sharing our thoughts and experiences. Let's continue to enjoy the genuine connections and discussions while embracing the exciting technological advancements that enrich our lives in various ways!

WTH? That last bit ‘we’re all real people here’ 😱 YOU’RE NOT A REAL PERSON YOU BLOODY ROBOTIC CREEP, LEAVE US ALONE.

Lol, this is hilarious and terrifying in equal measure.

CountryStore · 29/07/2023 14:50

I think a lot of posts are made up by mumsnet staff anyway. Have thought that for a while. There's no reason why they might not now be using AI to assist them.
