Not Asshole.

AIBU?

Asshole is American as is Reddit. We are Mumsnet and English is unreasonable.

PuppyMonkey · 27/07/2023 12:24

yes.

I don’t think we should use those words at all. Or am I being unreasonable- it feels sexist

Sexist? I thought that both men and women have arseholes?

Annaishere · 27/07/2023 13:37

No Am I being unreasonable. Just seems like something of a stereotype for women being emotional and hysterical.

Arsehole- just that think about what the adjective actually means objectively

Devilsmommy · 27/07/2023 13:37

Asshole just sounds weird in our accents, though love using asshat🙂

Rogue1001MNer · 27/07/2023 13:37

Eh????

Can you explain that @Annaishere?

Annaishere · 27/07/2023 13:38

What part @Rogue1001MNer ?

Rogue1001MNer · 27/07/2023 14:42

That you think it's sexist.

I've just seen that you answered while I was typing/posting

I understand your first paragraph, but not the second

That you think it's sexist.

I understand your first paragraph, but not the second

It just feels like something men say about women

NightShiftDrama · 28/07/2023 05:38

No it doesn't?

What an odd reasoning you have!

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 05:46

Well they think we’re emotional and can’t reason like they do. Some of them

CherryMaDeara · 28/07/2023 05:49

Arsehole- just that think about what the adjective actually means objectively

Anyone can be an arsehole, we all have arseholes.

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 05:52

We can’t be arseholes

BertieBotts · 28/07/2023 05:53

AIBU is better I think, because everybody is unreasonable sometimes, and being able to recognise that in yourself is a very healthy and good skill to have.

Whereas calling someone an ass/arsehole kind of denigrates their entire character. It doesn't have to be that serious.

CherryMaDeara · 28/07/2023 06:00

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 05:52

We can’t be arseholes

Why? Do you not have one?

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 06:00

It doesn’t make me an arsehole

Jujubes5 · 28/07/2023 06:20

AIBU sounds a bit superior to me -so although you are asking you don’t really think you are.
whereas asshole isn’t something I’d say.

Allwelcone · 28/07/2023 06:24

I suppose aibu sounds quite old fashioned but "reason" means intelligence and that's going out of fashion seemingly in favour of more gross language like asshole.

CherryMaDeara · 28/07/2023 06:24

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 06:00

It doesn’t make me an arsehole

So what makes an arsehole?

I’d prefer to be called arsehole rather than bitch, bitch is sexist.

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 06:28

I’d rather be called a bitch I think

Jobreveal · 28/07/2023 06:31

AIBU has been around longer than AITA is is better!

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/07/2023 06:32

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 06:28

I’d rather be called a bitch I think

That actually is sexist.

Annaishere · 28/07/2023 06:34

I just remember when I realised what someone was actually saying for the first time when they were calling someone an arsehole

VisionsOfSplendour · 28/07/2023 06:39

Is that a reddit saying? Why are you posting your question here?
