AIBU or is DH - Bin bag on bin day!

This is obviously lighthearted.

It's bin day today in our house. Our general waste is being collected. All bathroom bins have been emptied (only gets done once a week).

DH says the kitchen bin should be emptied and a new bag put in even though it's less than a 1/4 full just because it's bin day. It usually gets changed every 1-2 days.

I say it's only 1/4 full and no need to change it earlier and waste the liner just to send it away with the general waste collection.

Our general waste wheelie bin is never ever full. Usually less than half.

Who is BU?

YABU = all the bins should be emptied regardless of how full they are on bin day

YANBU = emptying a bin that's 1/4 full is wasteful of the liner etc and unnecessary.

What does your household do?

I can't actually see the voting as I'm on the mobile app but I'm sure someone will be kind enough to tell me the results in a question in a while!

I’m with your DH here - always empty the bin on bin day!

Tlolljs · 27/07/2023 08:43

Yeah I’m with dh. Empty all the bins on bin day.

Moonlightsonatas · 27/07/2023 08:43

If my bin bag was only 1/4 full I wouldn’t empty it. Our council takes all the recycling and food waste so there is nothing in the bin that would smell.

Doggymummar · 27/07/2023 08:43

We always start a fresh on bin day

LuvMyBoyz · 27/07/2023 08:43

We make a judgement call on the kitchen bin and wouldn’t change it if only 1/4 full so YANBU

PeanutButterOnToad · 27/07/2023 08:44

Depends on what is in the bin that is not full. Something smelly, out it goes, if not leave it.

TheInterceptor · 27/07/2023 08:44

Put all the bathroom bin bags into the kitchen one. Voila!

Mrsjayy · 27/07/2023 08:44

He's right sorry always empty the kitchen bin regardless of quater.full.

thecatsthecats · 27/07/2023 08:45

I'm with you - the cleaner also empties the bins two days later, so a second almost empty bin gets put out, grr.

My husband does waste bins and I do the garden bin though, so I don't pay too much attention. He concedes to doing it my way in cooler months.

MsMcGonagall · 27/07/2023 08:46

If DH wants to empty the kitchen bin let him crack on. If he's not there and it's up to you, leave it. I don't think you need a fully agreed position on this!!

Hoppinggreen · 27/07/2023 08:46

We usually empty all bins on bin day unless I changed the kitchen bin liner the day before, then I don’t empty it

ZeroFuchsGiven · 27/07/2023 08:46

Im sure we had this exact same thread not long ago. Im with your DH.

NotBotheredAnymore · 27/07/2023 08:46

Depends how often bin day is. Mine is fortnightly and the thought of rotting kitchen waste being in an outside bin for 13 days is revolting. We empty all bins for this reason.

RightOnTheEdge · 27/07/2023 08:48

It depends what's in it I think.
If it's got anything smelly in there chuck it out, if not it's a bit of a waste.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 27/07/2023 08:50

I'm with your DH. Always get rid of everything on bin day otherwise it sits fir two weeks and starts to smell.

BabyHobnob · 27/07/2023 08:50

I wouldn't unless i had put something particularly stinky in it!

ToxicBiennial · 27/07/2023 08:52

Yes agree unless there’s something smelly or rotting bits of fruit attracting fruit flies.

Lauryn95 · 27/07/2023 08:52

Within my relationship I ask my partner to do things and how he does those things I let him do it how he feels necessary ,I still to my chores he has his and we just get on with it, I feel like this creates a mutual respect nobody's nagging anyone for anything and no needless little arguments happen this way. In my experience if you start nagging that they don't do something to your standard they'll just think we'll you do it then and I ain't about to take on the extra work haha

AppleCinnamonBagel · 27/07/2023 08:57

Rubbish (landfill) bin day is once a fortnight so the kitchen bin is always emptied that day. As there's just two of us, the bin generally gets emptied in to the wheelie bin weekly. Unless we've had fish in which case I bag the wrappings in an old carrier (reused many times) and put that straight in the wheelie to avoid the kitchen bin ponging.

So yes, bin day all the bins get emptied and new liners.

mrsm43s · 27/07/2023 08:58

We start with the usually half full kitchen bin, and then empty all the other bins in the house into it, leaving all the other liners in the other bins (unless there's something yukky in any of the other bins, when obviously we change the liner). By the time we've done that, the kitchen bin liner is normally full.

But generally, if it's your DH's job, as long as it's getting done, just let him do it his way.

CatsOnTheChair · 27/07/2023 08:58

If the bin usually gets emptied every 1-2 days, and is a quarter full, is can't have been changed much later than yesterday afternoon. So, in your house, I'd leave it.

In our house, the kitchen bin gets emptied the night before bin day (bins go around 7am). But we usually only have one, max 2 bags in the bin, so it could be a while before the next change.

givemushypeasachance · 27/07/2023 09:02

I like to put as much rubbish out as possible for bin day, but if there were only a couple of (clean) things in the bin then agreed I wouldn't 'waste' a bin liner chucking that out. Maybe if it was more than a third full?

Ricochetsandwhich · 27/07/2023 09:02

I’m with you. Binning a 1/4 full bin bag seems very wasteful.

it’s usually dry rubbish as most wet things go in food recycling so it doesn’t matter if it hangs around for a while. Once full it goes outside anyway.

Oldraver · 27/07/2023 09:06

I would always empty all bins as we have a fortnightly collection, so I st to stop kitchen rubbish hanging around for another two weekd
