DH doesn't really think it's all that bad. He thinks we should be recyling more and caring for the planet as makes sense and is just the right thing to do - but that climate change as a disaster is an exaggeration and not based in science. And that people are utilising it for their own agenda, woke brigade & so on.

We have young kids.

AIBU to find this position increasingly problematic?

People are going to say people are allowed different opinions but he seems geniunely unconcerned about future of planet for our kids - and I find that hard to swallow.

If he was massively into the conspiracy theory side - no

If he was “normal” about it then yeah.

morelippy · 26/07/2023 16:53

I'm much more concerned about the level of filth we're leaving behind. Litter everywhere. So much plastic in the oceans etc. So much is 'disposable'. I'm not that old but there was so much less in my childhood. Nothing came wrapped. Shopping bags weren't plastic and they were just big handbags.

The rest I'm open minded about.

All the predictions thus far have been wrong so I am with your DH on this. Now if the government wanted to fixate on the corporations causing pollution in this world I would be first in line but they don’t. They want you to pay more money and lower your standards of living to change the weather. The planet has been heating and cooling since time began. This time they have the media propaganda machine behind them for this agenda 2030.

What a nonsense claim. Where is your evidence? Provide trusted source not DM crap.

Tothemoonandbackx · 26/07/2023 16:22

You'd break-up a family because of this?????

Hell yes I would.

Firstly anyone who doesn’t believe in climate change is basically stupid. I couldn’t be with anyone that stupid.

Secondly because climate change deniers tend to ally themselves with other unpleasant right wing and borderline conspiracy theories.

Agree with this. We all have red lines.

I wouldn't be with a partner like that - I don't suffer fools gladly.

LuluGuinea · 26/07/2023 17:01

I am someone who because of my religious beliefs and as someone who loves nature I believe in caring for the planet as best I can. I do my bit as much as I can, but I have no idea whether climate change is completely due to carbon emissions or is cyclical. Having said that I believe that climate change is a thing, we can see the ocean levels rising and a rise in floods, droughts, heating in normally temperate areas, low temperatures in normally warmer areas, increasingly unstable weather. So there is a problem.

Having said that I don't how much the emergency earnings are propaganda or not. Though there seems to be a lot of propaganda on both sides as it were . Same with Covid, I'm not a denier but was sick of all the scaremongering from both right and left.

Regarding whether I could be involved closely with anyone who was a climate sceptic would depend on whether they were one of those con spiracists who are against feminism, being kind to refugees, believe vaccines are a plot by Bill Gates to depopulate the world. Those wingnuts I can do without.

He is not climate change denier from what you wrote...

I think some people on here are being very covid hysteria like about it, because they missed some drama. There is climate change, but I understand what he means aa the disaster bot. Some people paint it on here like earth will explode in about 25 minutes unless everyone stops. The problem also is hypocrisy round all of this.
"oh you are killing planet with flying! "
"Sure Gemma, your 2 big cars, uninsulated house an 5 kids are just dandy or planet" 🤷

YY to @HadalyEve about exaggerations issue

Absolutely bang on. Climate change is definitely a thing, but I seriously doubt it's man made. I honestly don't know how anyone doesn't see through the blatant propaganda. When the world leaders and billionaires start leading by example and give up their private jets and fleets of cars, then I'll maybe start taking them seriously, but at the moment it's just 'Rules for thee, not for me'.

Live your life.

lovenotwar149 · 26/07/2023 17:06

yes

Andanotherone01 · 26/07/2023 17:07

Maybe he finds you a frightfully pious bore

CurlewKate · 26/07/2023 17:07

@Tribute219 "You sound like a fascist. It's amazing how the liberal have become so authoritarian."

Faacist? Seriously? To say that you don't want to share your life with a person who doesn't believe in the most up to date science?

I think these threads are fake, bots. No way in the real is this a thing! 😂 only mumsnet do we ask a question like this.

CurlewKate · 26/07/2023 17:08

@Andanotherone01 "Maybe he finds you a frightfully pious bore"

Maybe he does. He is also entitled not to want to spend his life with her. Works both ways..

Emanresu9 · 26/07/2023 17:09

He’s entitled to his opinion like you are.

I think it’s a fact climate change is happening. What is less clear cut if it’s a cyclical event or man made. There isn’t concrete proof it’s caused by humans.

the ice age ended. Regardless of humans. Climates change naturally too

27Mankinis · 26/07/2023 17:09

DH is a Geologist. Like with a PhD and everything.

He thinks the human impact on climate change is massively over-egged and it is part of the natural cycle of the earth over millennia.

It's not pleasant and we should probably do what we can to mitigate, but he is quite exasperated with all the doom saying and hand wringing.

He is not a tin foil hat conspiracy theorist by any stretch of the imagination.

Why can’t he just think what he thinks and you think what you think? In the grand scheme of things what difference does either opinion make?
