If you want to lose weight and keep it off.

I fast from 8pm to 12 pm. Usually have my first something around 1pm

I haven't actually changed what I eat. I make sure I have some nutrient rich food in me but generally my diet is a bit shit Blush

Anyway, I've gone from a size 16 to a size 10. This happened within 3 months. It's been 9 months now and I've kept it all off! Remaining at a size 10

I don't eat breakfast, ever.

When I was in my teens, I almost skipped breakfast because I genuinely forgot to eat. The same happened early twenties but then after I had my son, I started eating breakfast!

Since that time I went from a size 10 to a size 16.

So yeah, for 9 months now, I just haven't eaten breakfast but haven't restricted myself really and still don't have a perfect diet by any means

I am remaining a size 10 and it's working. I suppose I'm an 'all or nothing' person. And I find the fast easy to stick to because I can eat 0! Sticking to 0 is easier than sticking to 3 sensible meals a day, for me Grin

Now I just have lunch, snack a bit tbh, and then dinner, also snack a bit but not loads as find I don't want to

When I ate breakfast, I found I was hungry all the time!

So glad I did this and took the plunge. Just thought I'd share

Yes you are.

You'd be guaranteeing me a migraine.

StaunchMomma · 25/07/2023 14:22

I do the same and am losing, so far.

It's also stopped a lifetime of snacking and evening binge eating in it's tracks.

Simple, effective and, most importantly, sustainable!

Hallelujah2020 · 25/07/2023 14:23

I only eat between 1pm and 8pm

Still a size 18/20 though 🤔🤣

Wheresthebeach · 25/07/2023 14:24

Didn’t work for me at all…but then I’ve never been big on breakfast anyway so think the issue is the old fashioned too many calories thing

WeWereInParis · 25/07/2023 14:26

This is actually a misconception. You only become hungry when your body has had something to eat and your blood sugar starts to fall again. You won't feel hungry at all as long as you stick to just coffee etc without sugar.

I wake up incredibly hungry.

Porridgewithnuts · 25/07/2023 14:28

OP - thanks for posting this. It’s made me think and I would love to add a fast day to my weekly health routine.

RE the eating disorder comments. IF is not recommended for anyone with an ED and I think that it really widely known. I can’t see why other people shouldn’t discuss fasting and whether it suits them. I love hearing all the different opinions and experiences. 🙏🏽

MrsCremuel · 25/07/2023 14:29

There is no way I could do it if I can’t have milk in my coffee. I’d love to, but I’m up with the birds because of the kids and I need it. I don’t like black coffee.

Catspyjamas17 · 25/07/2023 14:29

I don't do well with anything where I've set a particular rule or goal for myself, I'll immediately want to do the opposite. So if I tell myself I can't eat until 12pm I'll feel hungry. If I tell myself I can't have a particular food I'll want it. If I set an exercise goal I won't achieve it. I do better being chilled out bimbling along and not worrying about it too much or setting myself up to fail.

PurpleChrayne · 25/07/2023 14:31

I fast a few times a year for religious reasons and always feel euphoric the day after.

As soon as I finish breastfeeding DS, I will do it more regularly.

MorrisZapp · 25/07/2023 13:10

What about people who wake up hungry? I'm highly unconvinced that eating makes you hungry. But then I'm not convinced that two boiled eggs fill you up until lunch either.

This

AppleCinnamonBagel · 25/07/2023 14:33

I used to fast until 5pm, just black tea, black coffee and water. I was a size 10 at 5'6".
Got together with my partner who eats a big breakfast with buttered toast daily and I put on weight immediately. I really should go back to fasting, I felt better in myself and my weight was manageable!

TeddyFluff · 25/07/2023 14:35

Everyone is different. I tried fasting and I found it made me so hungry later in the day that I was overeating. So now I do have breakfast, a decent one.

equally, I am a size 10 anyway. Would still like to drop a stone but I find the best way for me is to quit junk food. Means I eat healthily, I’m not ever hungry, my life doesn’t change at all and I lose weight without thinking about it. Win win.

shadowchancesassy · 25/07/2023 14:35

I've been doing this for years but not intentionally. I don't eat after 8pm and have never eaten breakfast, I don't eat until lunchtime. Tea and coffee have never been my thing. Between 12-8 I eat what I want and probably have 4 takeaways a week. I'm 39 and have 5 children and am a size 8/10.

Prestat · 25/07/2023 14:39

Am chronically ill, tried, symptoms worse unfortunately.

Miajk · 25/07/2023 14:41

Another moronic diet thread.

wincarwoo · 25/07/2023 14:42

How does this work with exercise?

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 25/07/2023 14:42

I lost my period when I tried this. Despite eating a normal amount of calories.

I would therefore be cautious.

Damn my thyroid
I fast from 6pm - lunch time. No weight change at all

Same here. underachieve thyroid.

In order not to balloon.I eat once a day - don't count calories, but have an ordinary meal.

Pro: Weight doesn't come off but at least it doesn't pile on

Con: I'm always hungry

PerspiringElizabeth · 25/07/2023 14:43

YABU I hate all this ‘can I ask you to’ ‘can I encourage you to’ business. So patronising.

FWIW I am size 16 too, eat 12-8pm for years, never changed size at all.

FinsburyCircus · 25/07/2023 14:44

Porridgewithnuts · 25/07/2023 14:16

Interesting chat !!! @FinsburyCircus I would love to do that every Monday. Can you talk through your timings, what you eat to break it and whether you exercise that day? All the info please! Well done on your weight-loss. That’s a great achievement.

I loose weight when I skip breakfast, but the key for me is not to feel deprived or that I’ve got a calorie deficit to use up! I often have breakfast foods at lunchtime and then one main meal.

Hello Porridge! To be fair I have been roughly following Slimming World the rest of the week but not doing serious exercise etc. Weekends usually end up cheating due to family life etc so the Monday just resets me.

I find it the simplest way because trying to restrict calories just means you're thinking about food all day! If you've decided not to eat at all then you can focus on work etc and once you're through the hunger barrier it's not a big issue.

In terms of timing, I don't have much on a Sunday evening, rarely anything after 8. Then on the Monday I go to work as usual - break my fast at dinnertime at 6, nothing specific but usually mainly meat and salad. Always try and get a walk in during the day but nothing more strenuous in the way of exercise.

(I realise that's actually a 22 hour fast!)

Yes I'm always hungry first thing on a Monday morning, drink lots of water and the hunger goes away in an hour or so.

Appreciate it might not work for everyone but has been brilliant for me, never had the issues with headaches etc.

Yup I have an autoimmune condition too which can make losing weight way way way more difficult. OP is way too simplistic.

Catspyjamas17 · 25/07/2023 14:48

I started having difficulty swallowing after doing the Very Fast 800. It might have been something that was developing anyway, but I think I might have been so hungry that I was eating really quickly when I did have food and it started to get stuck in my oesophagus. Have had it investigated and it's oesophagitis and hiatus hernia. It's ok as long as I really chew my food properly, and be particularly careful around bread/red meat/chips particularly when consuming alcohol at the same time, but it's not good for me to be too ravenous as it seems to bring on the dysphagia.

ColonelOfTruth · 25/07/2023 14:49

I agree with you in that it really helps me with weight loss. There is literally only one thing that I struggle is and that is not having my morning coffee. I really dislike black coffee. I wonder if I could just have the one with a drop of skimmed milk 🤔

MoggyMittens23 · 25/07/2023 14:50

LordEmsworth · 25/07/2023 13:10

YABVVVU.

Great it's worked for you . Doesn't mean it will work, is appropriate, or is safe for everyone.

This. It really badly affects my GERD issues if I skip meals. No thanks!

AnnaNims · 25/07/2023 14:51

It works for me. I don’t eat until 2pm at the earliest. My husband on the other hand, just couldn’t do it - he’d be ravenous. I only feel hungry once I start eating!
