The torture of the Ticketmaster Queue

Dulra · 25/07/2023 11:53

I am currently in an online queue for Coldplay tickets, been here an hour and a half already so looking increasingly unlikely I'll get tickets. Spent a massive chunk of last Thursday also queuing on Ticketmaster for Taylor Swift, wasn't successful.

AIBU to want to go back to the 90s when you physically queued outside the likes of HMV? At least there was a bit of crack to be had with fellow queuers and you were getting updates on how many tickets were left so could easily work out if you were in with a chance or whether you should risk running to the smaller record store on the other side of town to see what they had left. There was also nothing like the satisfaction of leaving the store waving your ticket at all those still in the queue 🤣

I HATE online tickets. So much shit to go wrong apart from the bloody queing.

Internet crashing. PayPal crashing. Wrong numbers put in bank card details by anxious fingers. The stress is horrific.

Dd managed to get some Taylor Swift tickets. I had to leave the room when she was buying them. I’m amazed the internet didn’t suddenly drop out. It’s like a teenager. As soon as you want anything from it it shuts down.

Allmarbleslost · 25/07/2023 12:02

It's horrendous. I had to delegate Harry styles ticket purchasing to DH - I couldn't stand the tension!

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2023 12:02

Getting Taylor Swift tickets last week was genuinely one of the most sweaty experiences of my life.

It was, and I only had to wait about 6 minutes! That 30 minute waiting room though...

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2023 12:11

..and then the pressure to check out in 45 seconds...

And then having 2 expensive but decent tickets in seated, deciding whether to let them go and try standing! In 90 seconds!

THisbackwithavengeance · 25/07/2023 12:13

YABU to go to a Coldplay concert. Wink

And also finding the tickets on the shit
pop up map of the venue.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/07/2023 12:15

I think Ticketmaster should provide counselling. Just to deal with the stress.

Glastonbury veterans flexing their 15 years of practice dealing with Seetickets registration nightmares and this was back when we were dedaling with 56k dial up. I don't know why it has taken Ticketmaster so long to sort their shit out.

Still don't know where mine are. They seem to be on the balcony bit of the hospitality suite in Cardiff but are normal tickets. Not on the map!

I've been to Glastonbury once, in 1998. Me and my mate fancied going, rang the ticket line, spoke to a human 😲 and we were in. I daren't bother these days (not to mention the cost!!!)

Got Foo Fighters tickets the other week, that was a bloody stress, sat in the queue for over half an hour, got DH to go onto another site and he got them in minutes 🤷‍♀️

In a way online makes it easier for anyone who couldn't make it to the record store for whatever o clock, but sites breaking down, bots still getting through, it's not ideal. Maybe we should go back to the phone queue and a person on the other end!

Dulra · 25/07/2023 13:17

Got my tickets!! I take it all back Ticketmaster 😂

That's exactly what happened with us for Foo Fighters! One of us spent ages waiting and the other logged straight in to do it and was all 'wtf are you doing to be waiting that long?' to the other. Nearly caused a row. 😂

Worth it for Dave though!

Livinglacheetosloca · 25/07/2023 13:23

I get pissed off with the fees they charge when you're doing all the leg work

SquashPenguin · 25/07/2023 13:24

You need to be armed with more than one device. The last tickets I bought I waited with my phone, two iPads and a laptop. Then at least when one inevitably crashes you still have a fighting chance!

thebellagio · 25/07/2023 13:26

Yeah Taylor was a nightmare last week. Not so much the queue itself, but the knowledge that whatever ticket you selected you couldn’t change and had no clue where your seats were and the ridiculously limited timeframe to actually complete the checkout.

im lucky I work for myself so I can logon and get tickets. I have no idea how I would have done it if I’d been in an office with a boss monitoring me

thebellagio · 25/07/2023 13:26

And as you say, the fees are extortionate. Surely they get paid by the promoter when they win the contract for selling the tickets. So what are the fees bloody for???

Comefromaway · 25/07/2023 13:27

I used to work in the box office of a major concert venue. We loved the queue. I was rarely on the desk and mostly on the phones but the desk opened before the phones did to give the actual queue priority and we used to have a nice chat with them. The best fans were heavy metal fans, the absolute worst were Daniel O'Donnell.

Its a long time ago ow but where I used to work the promoter took all the ticket monies, the only money the box office kept was the booking fee.

Confuzzlediddled · 25/07/2023 13:28

I made 7000 calls and eventually got through on another number for Taylor swift tickets a fortnight ago - cost me £72 in phone charges! The joys of needing a wheelchair seat...

thebellagio · 25/07/2023 13:32

Thats absolutely awful @Confuzzlediddled

Surely that breaches some form of equality/accessibility rules?

Harrythehappypig · 25/07/2023 13:35

My friend made a mistake when buying Taylor Swift tickets last week - ended up with just one ticket for a lot of money and now isn’t sure if will be get money back. Absolutely can’t afford to lose the money and her DC is too young to go alone (and wouldn’t want to).
