Yes but my dh worked for them for 19 years.

UnNiddeRides · 20/07/2023 20:01

Involuntary bowel movement?

WhaleBlue · 20/07/2023 20:02

International business machine

junglejane66 · 20/07/2023 20:02

Yes, but just a random fact I've remembered. At the time they thought they'd only ever sell a few to large companies

Involuntary bowel movement?

That’s what came to mind for me first! 😂 I don’t think I know what the computer-related IBM stands for.

ZooMount · 20/07/2023 20:07

No idea

Azaeleasinbloom · 20/07/2023 20:08

Yes, but I worked in IT for a US company for a while.

RoseslnTheHospital · 20/07/2023 20:09

Yes, absolutely. But work in computing and have done for years, so not surprising. Unless you mean a non-computing related acronym in which case I have no idea!

FrivolousTreeDuck · 20/07/2023 20:13

International Business .... something or other (menopause brain has deleted the last word).

csandsickofit · 20/07/2023 20:13

My mum used to work for them in the 1950s in the UK - it was known as the Tab, they were data tabulating machines.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 20/07/2023 20:22

DH still works for them, so yes.

Ffsmakeitstop · 20/07/2023 20:26

International Binary Machines. At a guess.

DyslexicPoster · 20/07/2023 20:28

Yes. Worked for them.for over a decade

Yogibearspicnic · 20/07/2023 20:28

I didn't know, but on a tangent, who knows what SCS (the sofa place) stands for?

Remaker · 20/07/2023 20:28

Yes, I used to work for them.

Ffsmakeitstop · 20/07/2023 20:29

Business not Binary don't know what happened there.

chocolateisavegetable · 20/07/2023 20:29

Irritating Bloody Menopause 😁

Davros · 20/07/2023 20:29

International Business Machines

Gingernaut · 20/07/2023 20:30

"Something" Business Machines?

Integrated or International, would be my first guess.

《Goes off to Google IBM》

stiltonbriecheddar · 20/07/2023 20:30

Yea, but only because my Dad worked there for many years

guzzleandstuff · 20/07/2023 20:31

Always known

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 20/07/2023 20:32

I don’t know what IBM is but I know that SCS is sofa, carpets, specialists

Yes

Nowaysunshine · 20/07/2023 20:34

Worked on their word processors for quite a long time in the 70's and we always called them itty bitty machines! :)

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 20/07/2023 20:41

Yes, former boyfriend was an IBM-er and I’d also read a really interesting book called IBM and the holocaust - on how the Nazis had used their machines to co-ordinate to help organise the holocaust.
