Would you report no MOT

My ex has been driving around with an expired mot since April, according to friends he’s aware it’s expired but can’t afford to get it sorted.

He’s just returned from a golfing weekend, has gym memberships, golf and season tickets. Pays 100 maintenance a month for 2 child due to working cash in hand.

He picks up our son from school a few nights a week. I’m I being unreasonable to think I should report him?

Only if you want to be vindictive towards him

trevthecat · 20/07/2023 18:29

I would. The car is unsafe. Is he driving your kid around in it?

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 20/07/2023 18:30

Yes. I wouldn't want my kids being driven around in a car with no MOT.

Yes he drives our son around, last years advisory was for break pads wearing thin.

He's driving your child around in a car and you have no clue if its roadworthy & therefore safe? He's also uninsured as a consequence. I'd report him in a heartbeat.

Keepingthingsinteresting · 20/07/2023 18:31

Ignore thé first post @thethreemuskateers , he’s clearly bitter.

Definitely report, it’s unsafe for your child and the public- he’s a knob

How would you feel if they got into an accident, you knew the car was unsafe and chose not to do or say anything?

Fidgety31 · 20/07/2023 18:32

No because I’m not a snitch

ilovesooty · 20/07/2023 18:33

I wouldn't be letting him have your child in his car until he produces an MOT certificate.

thethreemuskateers · 20/07/2023 18:33

Yes I’m going to report him, he’s prioritising his social life over the safety of our son.

It's REALLY hard to report no MOT. Have tried it but had to make a report to the local police who really weren't interested and made it pretty clear they wouldn't take any action.
But I still think it needed to be reported, as it was unsafe and a danger to everyone else

Fairtomiddline · 20/07/2023 18:35

No.

I'd rather be a snitch than have a dead child because the brakes failed.

No because I’m not a snitch

I'd rather be a snitch than the parent of a dead child because the brakes failed and I didn't do anything about it.

MOT's are a legal requirement for a reason. And they only cost £60 - if he can afford golf memberships and season tickets, he can afford an MOT.

Fidgety31 · 20/07/2023 18:42

@GoodChat so overdramatic !

It's only over dramatic until it happens.

Don't you have to have an MOT & insurance to tax your car? If he hasn't got an MOT, the chances are his car isn't taxed, can you check online if his car is taxed? The DVLA are going round clamping cars that aren't taxed, sooner or later he will get caught, thinking about it he probably has no insurance as well.

Insurance is invalid with no MOT, and you're right that you need an MOT to tax.

dodeca · 20/07/2023 18:51

Absolutely, @Fidgety31 no because I’m not a snitch? it’s not a simple case of forgetting, it expired nearly four months ago. Do you realise these cars are on the road among us and that one might be dangerous?

OP please report it.

IveHadItUpToHere · 20/07/2023 18:52

Why has it become an issue for you now - three months later?

PerfectYear321 · 20/07/2023 18:55

I've reported before but nothing came of it. We no longer live in a country where rules matter

How mature

User894532765 · 20/07/2023 18:57

The car is only 'safe' the day you have the MOT, it can become unsafe anytime after then, not just after the 12 month anniversary.

Well, of course, but at least an annual MOT means any potential issues are picked up and dealt with.

I wouldn't knowingly get into a car that hadn't been MOT'd. It's just not worth the risk.

Rainbow1901 · 20/07/2023 19:05

Has he had the brakes done since the last advisory? If not then the idiot deserves to have the book thrown at him!!
Does he not care about his children? No MOT means no insurance!! It will cost him a darn sight more if he is stopped by the police, resulting in fines and points on his licence, plus the costs of towing his car and storage costs.
His priorities are all wrong.
