I still want to know who grassed up Rose and Jack talking at that dinner.

Another journo Rose wasn't being so pally with?

Someone who overheard the conversation and knew Rose shouldn't have been saying anything of the kind?

Sir Keir said he was “surprised to hear these stories of banks taking into account political views, if indeed they are”.

Good God, man, have you not read that Coutts document?
“If indeed they are”……..if they’re not then why on earth have there been all these apologies and the CEO’s resignation?

😂 he’s not fast on the uptake is he

Starmer is following the line of Irish politicians. "I've never heard of that."

See also, "No-one ever brings it up on the doorstep".

None so blind, or deaf...

StefanosHill · 26/07/2023 12:17

They should print it with that puzzled rabbit in headlights look he gets

When I communicate with my Labour MP, I always preface it these days with, 'please regard this as having come up on the doorstep, David'.

(We know each other of old. He knows he's always welcome to come round and stand on my doorstep while I read my email or card out to him, but we tend to save time by skipping that bit.)

Great thread as usual on mn.
Very enlightening.

Re anecdotal my poor disabled dad was not treated well at all by the bank in his last year's... They should have a special geriatric team.

My own dealings with the bank online his behalf, again led me believe they are clumsy and totally incompetent. I certainly don't bank with them.

This issue will again be distasteful to some because they don't lie him but I agree with call the posters who say, today they go for him tomorrow they come for you.
He's done us all a massive favour by highlighting this.

Hurrydash · 26/07/2023 12:29

Seems like Labour should suggest Starmer stays in a darkened room until the election, then stand on a single issue manifesto 'We're not the Tories'.

Neely every time he opens his mouth he makes a fool of himself

Hurrydash · 26/07/2023 12:32

Sorry. Can't spell nearly.

Drenchend · 26/07/2023 12:34

@RudsyFarmer 20/7 9.14.

This.

Everyone should read that before commenting.

That's is the crux of why this is so deeply concerning.

Drenchend · 26/07/2023 12:49

@TheKeatingFive 20/7 11.11

Absolutely, so dangerous to stray offer this path.

Who paid for the tickets?

True irony would be her expense claim listing him as a guest

If this ends up before a select committee (Business and Trade?) then that is a question they might be able to ask on behalf of the taxpayers/shareholders. (As an aside, I imagine the Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch is having a long hard look at this and the role of unregulated EDI.) (She is also the women & equalities minister.)

Or Simon Jack of the BBC - our BBC - could just come clean about what happened, why it happened, who paid for the dinner, why they were sitting next to each other, how and why Farage and any other customer accounts 'came up' in dinner conversation, etc etc. Because right now it's looking very murky and underhand. Who else's bank account(s) has Simon Jack ever talked about?

The UK don't control the international financial markets and that is what will determine how EDI ends up implemented

The rank stupidity is that PEP is designed to (help) remove political corruption and stop people using their position of power to unduly infulence the behaviour of a PEP. Thats what NW did is the serious hard-hiting journalist story, NF's private life is a small box Page 3 gossip.

In reality I would be shocked if BBC/JS accepted ticket off anybody.
But a question is was it accidental gossip or a tradeoff

im sure he’s perfectly well aware. He just wants it to happen quietly while he and his odious kind sit sneering at Islington dinner tables.

Chersfrozenface · 26/07/2023 14:50

There are better private banks out there with better service and offerings. The fact that he didn't just take his money and go to one of them does make me wonder if, while not excusing Coutts' clearly terrible decision-making, there are deeper concerns about his finances that aren't public.

Farage has said that he has been refused accounts by 10 banks.

If you're blacklisted, it's difficult if not impossible to get another account.

AnSolas · 26/07/2023 14:55

Yep it is very possible that the wealth management team were so so crap at their job that they missed the obvious, performed financial checks which returned false information, and then they decided that they would make up "new" rules and document the evidence of this in a written report

There is no possible chance that NF could check his contract to see if he still qualifed.

Or that a staff member who seen the report made a comment to somebody outside the bank (eg NF himself) and that he was aware of the content before getting the proof.

AutumnCrow · 26/07/2023 15:06

If issues SARNs under DPA, NF will find out. Possibly he has already?

Chersfrozenface · 26/07/2023 15:12

..and they don't offer you an opportunity to open an account at one of their other offerings.

It's not just matter of one of NatWest's other offerings, though. I repeat, Farage says he has been turned down by 10 other banks.

Qbishy · 26/07/2023 15:21

I mean, people get a bad credit rating for missing an instalment or two of a loan. Imagine how bad your report would be if your whole bank account was cancelled?!

AutumnCrow · 26/07/2023 15:25

NF should have a look at what it says in his files kept by CIFAS, Experian, Equifax etc. I've done it - it was fascinating.

I love a good SARN, me. Grin

Newnamesix Can you give an example of these ‘deeper concerns’? Coutts seem to have done a pretty thorough investigation but couldn’t find any evidence of criminal activities. Imagine the gloating by them and BBC etc if they had.

The fact that he didn't just take his money and go to one of them

Do you think he should’ve just gone along with Coutts dismissal of his account without questioning and gone to another bank?
Given what’s come out about Coutts I’m glad he’s shone some daylight on their practices.

Qbishy · 26/07/2023 15:55

The narrative on Twitter X from certain types now seems to be "A highly successful and competent woman has been bullied out of her job by Nigel Farage and the Far Right" 🙄

They just can't compute fairness applying to someone they don't like.

Chersfrozenface · 26/07/2023 16:02

"highly successful and competent woman"??

Not very competent to discriminate on the grounds of belief and then go tattling and telling lies about customers when one shouldn't even be discussing them - and to a journalist to boot.

That's the Equality Act and the UK GDPR breached for starters.
