Holiday airbed etiquette

Ikeasucks · 19/07/2023 17:47

Man just took my airbed from the side of the pool near our beds gand gave it to his wife and daughter up the other end. They’re having a grand old time splashing about. Part of me doesn’t mind a bit and part thinks he’s being a bit of a cheeky fecker. AIBU

I would be cross if he didn't ask!

FionnulaTheCooler · 19/07/2023 17:48

He's a cheeky fucker. Go and get it back. He can buy his own.

Sparklesocks · 19/07/2023 17:48

Is it possible he thought it was communal/owned by the hotel? Otherwise yes - cheeky!
Did you say ‘that’s ours’ or similar when he took it?

FrivolousTreeDuck · 19/07/2023 17:48

Cheeky fecker. I wonder if he thought it belonged to the hotel?

Readyplayerthr33 · 19/07/2023 17:51

Just go and get it back.

Hummingbird89 · 19/07/2023 18:06

Nope, he is a cheeky fucker! Would he replace it if his kid damaged it??
I had this on holiday once with a French family. The mum was furious when I went and retrieved it. Tough! But your own. Cheeky cow.

memyselfi · 19/07/2023 18:07

I guarantee he thinks it's the hotel's .

Nah I don’t buy that. Been to many hotels over the last 20 years in Spain, France, Italy, turkey…not one have provided pool inflatables!
Also if it’s near the ops lounger, it’s still polite to say “excuse me, looks like you’re finished with this- it is ok if I take it?”

Nomorecoconutboosts · 19/07/2023 18:09

Some people do seem to assume that hotels might have communal inflatable items like this. I’ve never know this to be the case.

Perhaps because on occasion holiday makers go home and leave items by the pool so no one owns them.
correct etiquette in your situation would have been for them to ask if it was yours then on being told yes to move away (unless you genuinely then offered them a loan)
loans are tricky as we have found people forget it is on loan and then abandon it or give to someone else later instead of returning it…

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 19/07/2023 18:11

I'd retrieve it before it's damaged.

Doggymummar · 19/07/2023 18:12

I've been to loads of hotels where previous guests haven't taken inflatable home with them ( you wouldn't would you) and they are left around the pool for anyone to use. I assume he thinks that is what they are. Put it under your sunlinger next time.

LazyDoll · 19/07/2023 18:14

And this is why my permanent marker always comes on holiday with me 😂 hard to argue with your last name written across it.

Bloodyleaverspartybollocks · 19/07/2023 18:19

I'd let them use it but go and get it as soon as they get off it.

Poppyblush · 19/07/2023 18:30

Is it yours or hotels, if yours, go get it back!!!

BakedTattie · 19/07/2023 18:33

Just go get it back?

WeeOrcadian · 19/07/2023 18:49

YABU if you don't go and tell him that it's yours and you want it back

FatCatBum · 19/07/2023 19:15

memyselfi · 19/07/2023 18:07

I guarantee he thinks it's the hotel's .

I have never been to a hotel that has random hotel inflatables for guests to use

Intriguedbythis · 19/07/2023 19:53

@FatCatBum i have been to loads that have them. Especially Italy, France, Spanish islands. The private beaches with pools often have a stash of them too.

momager1 · 19/07/2023 20:50

ffs. NO. just go and use your voice. Tell him that (if you want to be nice) sorry you must be confused.. that is my personal airmattress.. please give it back. If not.. HEY CHEEKY FUCKER who do you think you are? that is MINE. give it back, I live in a resort area in the dominican republic and SOME high end resorts do have swim mats but the are not blow up.. and they all are identical. so no. this is a CF . Call them out and take it back

Takacupokindnessyet · 19/07/2023 21:00

I'd let people carry on using it if I didn't want it at the time but go and ask for it back if I did want it or was leaving the area.

PegasusReturns · 19/07/2023 21:03

I’d seethe quietly for ten mins then feign a need to return to the room, requesting it’s return on your way.

GiddyGladys · 19/07/2023 21:04

Go and get it, he obviously thinks it's an abandoned one used by all. He'll probably tell you it's his when you go and get it now Grin

Gladreel · 19/07/2023 21:07

Just go get back... 🤷‍♀️

Tilllly · 19/07/2023 21:26

Go over and take one of their towels

Lacucuracha · 19/07/2023 21:29

Get it back, they might damage it.
